To wonder if MNers average IQ has dropped by at least 10 (if not 20) points since Penis Beaker, Jeffrey etc.

It used to be a good place.

Now it's full of posters with long drawn out, multiple threads about boring banal shit.

Cheeky Neighbour thread Number 20.

My Boring Life Thread Number 100.

My Blossoming Heart Throb (who happens to be a gardener) Thread Number 90.

My Awful Life In General Thread Number 200.

And if anyone dares to challenge the OP of a multiple thread they must be a harpy or troll.

The fact that the multiple-thread-starters might be trolls themselves seems to escape the attention of the fans.

OP posts:

Good lord... if it wasn't in MNHQ blue I'd have taken the OP of Scheherazade as parody.

Ginslinger · 29/09/2017 10:38

an update? Shock well bang goes the day Grin

I was the person who mentioned bright, funny posters. To clarify: I particularly meant posters who wrote well. Who discussed stuff. Not people who were bitchy or cliquey (though yes, there was definite cliquiness). But people I felt a real urge to get to know.

There are still a lot of those here. I am on one long-standing thread of posters who have those qualities. But there is also a lot of other stuff.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 29/09/2017 10:49

There has been an increase in pious, lemon faced fuckwits who virtue signal all over the threads

YY to this!

I suspect a lack of Safari suppers & naked jacuzzi-ing is to blame for this.

raglansleeve · 29/09/2017 11:00

I've actually been around on Mumsnet since 2000 in various guises - I remember the good old days of posters like the venerable COD, Misdee and her sisters and the joy surrounding her DH's heart transplant, Littlelapin who was funny and sensible and Rhubarb and Custard, Princesspeahead who was a bit posh etc. Many of the more erudite posters left during the Moldie debacle.

I think part of the problem is that there's nothing new under the sun - we've probably heard all the wedding angst, relationship issues, child rearing issues etc, so most threads are a repetition of previous threads.

There also appears to be a massive reduction in common sense in the general population, and a lot more 'me, me, me'. I have started to get the irrits with threads saying new mothers are going into purdah for a month after the birth of their pfb - they don't want visitors while they 'bond' with the new arrival. I can just picture these women in 30 years when their DIL does the same thing with the new grandchild: AIBU - my bitch DIL is preventing me from seeing my precious grandchild.

Also, I've started to recognise threads started by lobby groups/journalists etc., and of course the rise of the hairy handed troll and the cadger.

I don't spend as much time on Mumsnet as I used to because a lot of what's on the message boards is pish.

flippinada · 29/09/2017 11:02

I agree with everything written thus far, but never mind that. I just wanted to know if anyone else is having problems with their grade 1 listed mansion?

I've put cling film across the windows instead of glass to save some money as running an Aga is terribly expensive, but someone in the village has complained. WIBU to beat them to death with a jacket potato?

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 29/09/2017 11:02

Every time I see yet another poster using the term "cheeky fucker" or even worse "CF", I roll my eyes so far back, I get a headache. It reminds me of teenagers who learn a new word and use it to death.

Anyway, to answer your question, YANBU. We seem to add an awful lot more kisses these days too. They're not even relevant. It's not as if someone is sending a kiss after writing a condolence post to an OP. "We are having fish fingers for tea xx"". I try to be kind and think it might be an accidental habit but I don't think this is the case for everyone.

SumThucker · 29/09/2017 11:08

No problems as such, the East wing is out of bounds though due to a refurb. It's pre-Tudor so it'll be costly.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/09/2017 11:16

I hadn't noticed... maybe I'm good at avoiding those threads. The only context I see XX a lot in is chromosomes.

derxa · 29/09/2017 11:16

Loved the SG thread.

flippinada · 29/09/2017 11:18

Oh, how tiresome SumThucker. I do hope it's very modern and oak framed, with a glass add on.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 29/09/2017 11:19

That sort of thing is true of every internet forum I've known. An in joke develops and then gets totally overused so it's not funny any more.

motherinferior · 29/09/2017 11:23

It's also a lot more pitchforky than it used to be. The received wisdom now is that anyone who ever has any sort of affair - or possibly Flirtation or even just friendship - is an Evil Hoor (of whatever gender).

There are also some seriously weird food threads. There used to be self-righteous food threads but now there's quite a lot of competitive non-eating.

VeryCunningStunt · 29/09/2017 11:25

There also appears to be a massive reduction in common sense in the general population

'AIBU to ask if I should go to the toilet now while I'm just a little bit in need, or should I wait till I'm really desperate?'

Thant one ticks many boxes: unable to make a basic decision without asking (and then ignoring) the advice of random internet people, getting the wee troll off, and using the word 'toilet' (which is worse than saying 'cunt'. True, dat.)

PandorasXbox · 29/09/2017 11:26

You are so NBU.

I proper laughed at this ada 🤣

You are awful!!

raglansleeve · 29/09/2017 11:30

Cunning, exactly - or 'My DS has just chopped his finger off, what do you think I should do?' The number of times I have wanted to get all SHOUTY IN CAPS and say 'Stop fannying about on Mumsnet you ridiculous bint and call an ambulance'.

And the baby name threads, dear lord.

'What do you think about Ezmee-Mae for a girl?'
'Ridiculous spelling and hyphens are being overdone'
'You're all bitches, it's a lovely name' (flounce)
