It used to be a good place.

Now it's full of posters with long drawn out, multiple threads about boring banal shit.

Cheeky Neighbour thread Number 20.

My Boring Life Thread Number 100.

My Blossoming Heart Throb (who happens to be a gardener) Thread Number 90.

My Awful Life In General Thread Number 200.

And if anyone dares to challenge the OP of a multiple thread they must be a harpy or troll.

The fact that the multiple-thread-starters might be trolls themselves seems to escape the attention of the fans.

*There's less engagement with other posters I reckon.

You used to be able to have a conversation, or a discussion on most threads.*

YY to this clash, definitely.
General group silliness is lacking as well I think.

A lot more shouting down and downright rudeness/insults. Also people who seem to sit poised to jump on any thread and just make obnoxious comments (to derail or shut it down) - just comments, not question or debate.

I've been here since about 2004/5 and it's just a no fun anymore!

thecatfromjapan · 29/09/2017 18:05

I think one of the things I've been reminded by MN is that a lot of people don't have a Masters in english and don't read two books a week.

And, to be honest, it is a good thing to be reminded of that.

CharlieSierra · 29/09/2017 18:08

Clash - I still enjoy many of the boards though and have had some excellent advice from kind miners Grin

retreatwhispering · 29/09/2017 18:10

I have just binge-read and laughed my way through the Scheherazade threads and can see why those of you who were around then yearn for the old days. Amazing.

Goodness. After a hard day preparing jacket potatoes in the Aga and cling filming the east wing, my husband is whisking me off for a road-kill safari supper, after which we will all gather at the village square for the unveiling of the statue. While one is very appreciative I do secretly feel it's a little try hard but that's between me and my husband - we share everything you know - and it doesn't do to be ungrateful!

Gin we have a charming little boutique, next to the jewellery quarter and across the road from the gelateria. They do a lovely line in faded cashmere.

ClashCityRocker · 29/09/2017 18:44

Well, whilst I know several kind miners (or ex miners) I don't know any on MN Grin

Maryz that's it, exactly. Threads are just one list of opinions. And placemarking. And cheerleading.)

AVirtuousLife · 29/09/2017 18:44

Are your children sailing this weekend flippinada or are they helping out at a jacket potato charity kitchen for the less fortunate?

OP posts:
AVirtuousLife · 29/09/2017 18:46

God yes, spare me the cheerleading Clash.

It's exhausting.

To be fair, I think MN acquired a bit of a reputation as a prickly gig for people to come on and visit. This has probably had a deterrent effect. I can see why MN might want to ameliorate too prickly a welcome, knowing this.

Do you think there really would be a load of deletions for such a thread now?

The whole thread would go now, catfromjapan. There is no way a "guest" would be "subjected" to that sort of "abuse"

This is so true. People have been banned for asking politicians searching questions. Asking actual MPs questions.

VirtuousLife Goodness knows, I can barely keep track of the non stop whirligig that is the offsprings social lives! Rather tiresome really but they are very much in demand. Barely a day passes without one or the other being invited to some exclusive event for the social elite. Of course they take it all in stride - not that one likes to boast!

AVirtuousLife · 29/09/2017 22:05

Of course you're not boasting flippingada!!!

Heaven forfend!

I expect it is so easy for it to slip your notice what your kids are up to these days.

Might I direct a question to Crumbs1?

Your twins:-

Are they your 1st/2nd, 2nd/3rd, 3rd/4th, 4th/5th, or 5th/6th children? I only ask because I'm interested.

I love the gammon woman. Endless entertainment.

flippinada · 30/09/2017 13:58

I am sorry, quite worn out by last night's road kill supper and feeling not a little delicate. TB former PM happened by along with DM to witness unveiling of statue. Much jolliness and reminiscing! TB shared threadworm anecdote and had us all in absolute stitches.

Ginslinger · 30/09/2017 14:04

such a shame that Barack and Michelle weren't free, isn't it?

flippinada · 30/09/2017 14:27

Indeed but they did send a charming email - Malia is ever such good friends with youngest, they met at a ballet gala for the underprivileged and hit it off immediately.
