To hate it when people try to give you their £1 for your trolley?

For some reason I dislike doing this. When you're putting your trolley back and people try to give you their £1 and you give them your trolley.

I don't want their £1, I want to keep mine.

It's happened today and the lady gave me 5 20p coins, in exchange for my £1 coin, so essentially I just gave her change. Only now I don't have my £1 coin (which I always keep in my car for the trolley), so I've now got to change it myself back to £1.

Get a token?

bigredboat · 28/09/2017 17:24

Just say 'no thanks I want to keep a pound coin for next time'?

MagicFajita · 28/09/2017 17:24

Get a trolly token then you can just say no based on that.

I always just say it's a token not a £1

SavoyCabbage · 28/09/2017 17:26

I say I need it for tooth fairy money because it's shiny.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/09/2017 17:26

Bloody hell, a woman needed to swap change for a pound coin for her trolley and it riled you. This can't be your normal reaction to something so everyday and inconsequential. Did she kick you up the arse as well?

emma6776 · 28/09/2017 17:26

This has never happened to me. How odd.

Horriblehistories · 28/09/2017 17:27

I did have a token but it doesn't seem to fit now that they've changed the pound coins. Will have to get a new one.

I know it's a minor thing, I just wondered if anyone else was weird like me. I'm not really sure why it bothers me!

  1. Say 'fuck off begging scum' they won't do it again..
  2. Say 'ew how weird'
  3. Say 'OK, but it's 50p on top for saving you the walk
  4. Say,' oh it's £2 now, do you have that, £2.
  5. When they are giving you money hold their hand tight and say 'couldn't trouble you for a bit more for the shelter
Horriblehistories · 28/09/2017 17:31

Shatners well I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but yes I try to avoid eye contact when anyone approaches me waving a pound coin.

I have a token but often when I do the weekly shop I have someone asking to take the trolley off me as they don't have a pound. One the other week asked if I had four pound coins as well as she only had a £5 note.

@scaryclown
Bwahahahahahaha

Ttbb · 28/09/2017 17:38

Just explain that you keep that pound coin in your car specifically for this purpose.

Ivy79 · 28/09/2017 17:38

I have a token. One woman had one too and just wanted to 'swap tokens.' Mine was a special token from an animal charity, so I was like, 'er no......' Hmm

She looked quite annoyed. Grin

If it was a normal pound coin it wouldn't bother me to be honest. But each to their own. Smile

Trollspoopglitter · 28/09/2017 17:39

It's a bit like the people who want to take your trolley as you're putting it away near the car. Why? You've got to walk the trolley across the entire parking lot (and you know it will have a wonky wheel) and there's hundreds of them right next to the entrance.

FruBayerischOla · 28/09/2017 17:39

You should shop in Waitrose - you don't have to put a coin in their trolleys Grin

CircleofWillis · 28/09/2017 17:40

I actually hate it the other way round when someone tries to give you their trolley for your coin. Once I swapped and when I returned the trolley after my shop there was nothing in it! I am very wary now.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/09/2017 17:43

I'm not an AIBU stirrer Confused.

I genuinely can't see what the gripe is with swapping a pound for a pound. You're bound to get another £1 coin (not exactly a rare commodity) before your next big shop. It's a minuscule favour, not a big ask. I'm obviously a people-pleaser!

I don't like people taking the piss out of people when they are complaining at 'trivial' stuff, but @ShatnersBassoon comment made me LOL.Grin

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 28/09/2017 17:45

Why would you not??
This is one of those things that I really don't get, and only ever see on MN, like the angst over taking in parcels, or workmen using the loo.

You still have the same amount of money, you'll get another pound coin eventually (I mean it's not exactly like they're rare or anything Hmm), and you've just made someones day a bit easier.

Why is it an issue? Seriously?
It's just a fucking pound coin, the country is full of the bloody things, it's not like you'll never get another one!

If it bothers you that much get a token, and then you don't have to be forced to do a vaguely nice thing for someone, when it won't inconvenience you in the slightest. Confused

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 28/09/2017 17:46

Just read Shatners comment. Grin Grin

Everything ^^^^ they said.

Chocolatear · 28/09/2017 17:46

I use a 20 cent coin from a trip to France. I keep some in the car.

They work in most trolleys, stops anyone pestering.
