To hate it when people try to give you their £1 for your trolley?

For some reason I dislike doing this. When you're putting your trolley back and people try to give you their £1 and you give them your trolley.

I don't want their £1, I want to keep mine.

It's happened today and the lady gave me 5 20p coins, in exchange for my £1 coin, so essentially I just gave her change. Only now I don't have my £1 coin (which I always keep in my car for the trolley), so I've now got to change it myself back to £1.

Oh give over OP!

StickThatInYourPipe · 28/09/2017 18:23

The trolley man at our local offered to take the trolley back for me the other day, 'oh that's very nice of him' I thought going merrily back to the car. Then I remembered I had a pound in there! That's a nice little scam!

CheeseAndOnionIceCream · 28/09/2017 18:23

I've used a token for trolleys for ages. However, most of the supermarkets round my way have now 'released' their trolleys from having to have a coin/token put in as the trolleys won't accept the new one pound coins!

Carriecakes80 · 28/09/2017 18:26

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle Thank you :-) Saves me writing that! Some miserable buggers in this world! lol

wanderings · 28/09/2017 18:28

I do find the phrase "no it's all right thanks" said with a smile Smile covers all kinds of things, including chuggers, stuff I don't want sold at the till, extra this and that at the bank, extended guarantees, the list goes on.

bigbluebus · 28/09/2017 18:39

When a new Sainsburys store opened in our local town they gave out free trolley tokens. But their trolleys don't actually need tokens or coins!. Maybe they were supplying them so we could use them in their competitors trolleys Grin

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/09/2017 18:47

I am sympathetic to most quirks, but after digging down deep inside the worst ugliness in my soul, I still cannot find a tiny bit of me that cares about this!

Get trolley, do shopping, get rid of trolley. Done. The fine detail within that is simply not important enough to even think about never mind get wound up over!

Having to spend my trolley pound on parking the other day because I forgot to go to the cash point on my way back to the car did wind me up, but that was anger at my disorganisation.

JemimaLovesHamble · 28/09/2017 18:51

Oops, too late OP you're the PMS magnet this evening! Grin

Shemozzle · 28/09/2017 18:54

Gosh, you are a right miser aren't you. Here's me thinking it was the polite thing to do to save someone the trouble of going to put the trolley back when you are going that way anyway.

I wish I had your life. Just first world shopping trolley problems to cry about. Sounds bliss.

pictish · 28/09/2017 19:04

I can't imagine why this bothers you. Just take the pound and give them the trolley surely? Why do you want to keep your own pound coin? Is it special to you in some way?

I love a trivial/weird quirk of nonsense myself, but this one is daft.

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 28/09/2017 19:07

@Horriblehistories both pound coins fit now - there’s a balance on top of tiny ledge part and an insert under tiny ledge part

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 28/09/2017 19:09

Although people should know they can swap change for a point at customer services

Horriblehistories · 28/09/2017 19:12

Hiding this thread.

Anothernc you have no idea what's going on in my life thanks.

The long version is I'm spending most days in excruciating anxiety and utter fed upness and it takes lo my strength to get to the supermarket, I force myself because it gets me and the toddler out. So perhaps any further interaction make it harder.

Pyongy I don't have an ugly soul, so do fuck off.

I haven't been rude to anyone, it's a thought, that up until now has stayed in my head.

I shan't share my thoughts again, but really didn't need the bile off some of you today.

I'm obviously a people-pleaser!

Nope, I think you're just normal.

Mumsnetters in general are a VERY highly-strung bunch.

ButchyRestingFace · 28/09/2017 19:14

I try to avoid eye contact when anyone approaches me waving a pound coin.

This has never happened to me.

Note username.

DiegoMadonna · 28/09/2017 19:17

It's never even occurred to me to try to offer a pound to someone for their trolley. But then again, I've never been that bothered about a 50m walk or something taking an extra 30 seconds out of my day.

SilverySurfer · 28/09/2017 19:19

It's not a quirk it's weird - are your pound coins made of gold? If this is all you have to worry about, you are lucky - not that you will read this post as you have flounced.

prettypaws · 28/09/2017 19:21

I was just going to say could it be an introvert or anxiety issue of not wanting to interact with people or deal with anything unexpected.

Tainbri · 28/09/2017 19:28

I can honestly say this is one of the most amusing threads yet!! Grin OP - seriously? Hmm

hoyhoy44 · 28/09/2017 19:45

this happened to us on holiday once dh went to find a trolley as supermarket was chaos, showed the woman his euro, she gave us her trolley and turned out it had a 50 cence in ! so the trolley cost us 50 cence to use !

spatchcock · 28/09/2017 19:50

Haha! #veryBritishproblems

Genevieva · 28/09/2017 19:51

I think YABU. I am the opposite. It makes me smile and it saves me the bother of slotting the trolley back into the stack of other trolleys. I then leave with the same happy feeling I get when I have managed to give me carpark ticket to someone so that they don't have to buy one.

abigailgabble · 28/09/2017 19:55

serious question, how much do trolley tokens cost?
