Anti-Semitism and the British Left

Here they go again. Why does the British Left have such an antisemitism problem?

Labour fringe speaker's Holocaust remarks spark new antisemitism row

A senior Labour MP has said he is shocked at some of the anti-Semitic tweets by party members that come before its disciplinary panel. John Cryer said some of what is written "makes your hair stand up", adding: "This stuff is redolent of the 1930s."

After the Chakrabarti whitewash, I'm not listening to anything Corbyn and the left have to say any more. And don't even get me started on Ken Livingstone. I'll never trust Labour or the left ever again, until they stand up and say, "We allowed anti-semitism to arise within Labour. We just went,'deny, deny, deny' and looked the other way. We were wrong". Then, and only then, will I ever give them the time of day once again.

I doubt it is just coincidental that anti-semitism has only reared its ugly head of late, since Corbyn took over as leader of the Labour party. I'm not saying there was none at all before then, but that was when it got bad. Did you see, a few months back, a Liberal Democrat MP with anti-semitic views started shooting his mouth off? LibDem leader at the time, Tim Farron just turned around and fired him, immediately. That's leadership. Corbyn, on the other hand, has let Labour party anti-semites run riot and basically done nothing. He didn't even deal decisively with Livingstone, who should have been banned from Labour ten times over by now.

Corbyn has damaged forever Labour's reputation as a non-racist party. It took decades to build up that reputation, and just one world class muppet to ruin it.

According to a religious rights group in israel "Unfortunately, against this blatant incitement, accompanied by unruly violence, there’s deafening silence by law enforcement"

I wouldn't have said arresting the extremists' leader and planning to ban them as terrorists constituted "deafening silence" myself

Maybe it would be worth looking more fully into the circumstances before posting these silly things?

As Lizzie says there are a few nutters in Israel - most, I think, from Orthodox Judaism. But Israel has a democratic justice system and a few of the judges are non Jewish. That is unheard of in any ME country.

There is no islamophobia on this thread, except an attempt to show up what is commonly referred to as islamofascism and regressive Left thinking. Jihadis definitely are fascist because they tolerate no one different from themselves. Now, who does that remind you of?

Not just that little guy with a moustache, but also the current Labour Party, Momentum and all the smug, finger-wagging, condescending People Who Know Best telling us what to do & think: businessmen such as Branson, luvvies of all kinds, TV no-marks, the elite of parliamentarians, lobbyists, bankers, political theorists, clergy, academics and the rest of the fetid, patronising bastards.

They have posed as liberals with enlightened attitudes giving us their pearls of wisdom, but of course their self-serving intention is to form & control opinion and dictate our attitudes about everything, regardless of what our own eyes and information tells us. And what do we have now? Instead of a proper Left in politics, we have the Regressive Left, a term coined by Maajid Nawaz, that describes those who have stopped defending liberal principles, and now expend considerable energy excusing and defending the Islamist movement and its vicious assault on secular and some Muslim societies.

The RLs leap to castigate whenever any liberal democratic govt commits a policy error, while ignoring almost every fascist, theocratic or Muslim-led dictatorial regime and group in the world.

In fact, the RL abandoned the people in the Muslim world that it is supposed to be defending: the Muslim liberals, feminists, homosexuals, the ex-Muslims and atheists, the secular bloggers in Bangladesh, and the raped and tortured Yazidis.

That is the type of mindset we have in the Labour Party. But actually it's in most UK parties, I see that lack of critical thinking and demonisaton reserved not for the atrocities of IS and Taliban, but ourselves,

It's been a long con, approx. 40 years in which to first dumb down state education, but to a significant extent it has been successful. We have intolerance of another's opinion, violent speech, threatening behaviour, and instead of allowing someone to have a PoV that is 'wrong' to your mind, that person is now 'evil' and is to be excluded.

Well said.... I think it's only fair that I make it clear that I have a very unfavourable view of Islam. For my own personal, progenitorial, political and moral reasons.

If that makes me "Islamophobic" [a term I don't recognise anyway] in some peoples eyes, then so be it..
