And to be a bit grumpy already about all the pointless chit chat and fuss and tat involved?

Might get lucky on the traffic front because surely it won't be Westminster Cathedral or St Paul's (divorced Catholic and royal protocol)?

Why thank you Dances Smile

I hope iam is right. Juneybug doesn't seem to think MM is Catholic, though which might have a bearing. (At least I think that's what Juneau meant).

I sadly did know that petal because, tragically, I'm old enough to remember the coverage of his birth and the "Henry known as Harry" fuss then.

Yes, we know he's Prince Henry of Wales

Zara isn't royal, by letters patent, so it's unlikely that she would have had a royal wedding, seeing as she isn't one.

All the internet will tell me is she went to Catholic High School and her first wedding was a Jewish ceremony.

Probably safe to say she's not an Anglican, anyway.

I think the Royal baby watch will be far more tedious than Harry's wedding! The Americans are already outraged that their soap opera is being ruined by Harry dating a mixed race actress who's been naked on telly. The wedding will be hilarious and a blessed relief from bump watch/hospital watch/ baby watch/st Kate watch.

@Olivia Stabler - who gave you a crystal ball and how do you know? grin

Grin I guess I am biased as I know her from being a fan of the show Suits and I can't see her giving up being an actress.

The Royal Baby watch is however in the topic

@OliviaStabler given how truly awful the latest season of Suits is, I don’t think it would do any harm if she did give it up!

It'll be a sandwich. Engagement-baby-wedding. Too much royal clucking and squeaking by half.

I agree with OliviaStabler

I’m old enough to remember the Prince Andrew/Koo Stark furore more than 30 years ago

Harry will be pursued by the media until he marries as was Andrew in his time

He won’t marry Meghan

Inniu if illegitimate heirs had the right to succession, we wouldn't have a Church of England because any number of Henry VIII bastards cold have taken the throne, or any number of Charles II's offspring> I think medieval usurping from 1,000 years ago has little bearing on today?

@wellyclad I've not seen it yet. I must catch up!

To be fair they are perfectly entitled to get married and have babies. We should be blaming the media and the mad Royalists for all the fuss. Not one of them find it distasteful to stand outside a hospital waiting for a woman to give birth the minute she's been admitted to hospital. They should go back to home births.I'm quite looking forward to a Royal wedding. Especially if Harry marries Megan.

Meh, good on them. Meghan seems to have more substance to her than Waity Katie and has actually done something with her life other than hang around waiting for her man to propose. It'll be interesting to see how she furthers her humanitarian work if she becomes a member of the RF - she could be the breath of fresh air that they need! (Then again that's what Fergie was hailed as, so...)

I long for the day when this archaic institution is abolished and people are about as interested in their lives as they are in some two-bit zeleb from Towie.

We won't get a PH because we didn't when Prince Andrew got married. I think we only get one for those in direct line of succession. Harry's dad has married a divorcee so there's already a precedent there.

Couldn't care less anyway. I only clicked on this thread because I couldn't work out what RW stood for!

Whether she is catholic or not , it's irrelevant. The Act of Succession was amended and the likes of Freddie Windsor and Prince Michael were reinstated to the line.

Anyway religion is easily changed, Peter Philips wife (Summer? Autumn? I know shes named after a season) was catholic and converted.

serf I agreed with you previously that George wouldnt be King, but I teach 16 year olds and as part of our coversation about the constitution I asked them whether they thought we should have a monarchy. Most weren't bothered and a few said yes. If there was going to be an uprising, Id expect it to be them but they dont care enough to overthrow them! They will have to go of their own accord!

Yes and the precedent was their version of a quick register office do. Fingers crossed Smile

Did they get engaged? I missed that somehow, am way behind as usual ... perhaps I should read the DM occasionally!
Though if the engagement isn't so much in the news, then the wedding mightn't be either?

Years ago I decided I was against the monarchy. Definitely thought of myself as a republican.

Weirdly, reading threads like this over the last few years on MN has turned me around and I find myself feeling quite defensive and supportive of the royal family. I don't know what it is about these sorts of threads but they always, without fail, annoy me.

So, on that illogical basis YABU.

I'm working on a theory by which they will all become so ordinary and emote so much that they Peter out into z/list slebdom and their revenue streams and ceremonial significance incrementally gets legislated away by a parliament who can't see the point any more guinea. It's not detailed enough to be a prediction yes. But abolition by indifference must be possible.
