And to be a bit grumpy already about all the pointless chit chat and fuss and tat involved?

Might get lucky on the traffic front because surely it won't be Westminster Cathedral or St Paul's (divorced Catholic and royal protocol)?

Might I point out Prince Andrew (second son, 3rd generational wedding) has big bash (Westminster Abbey) as did The Princess Royal and Mark Phillips (Westminster Abbey) - Charles married in St Pauls

Nuttynoo · 26/09/2017 10:15

who cares. She’s a princess in the same way Kate will be queen. Nobody cares about the semantics.

SloeSloeQuickQuickGin · 26/09/2017 10:20

Urban myth regarding Zaras (lack of) title, simply in Letters Patent issued by George V, the daughter of a daughter gets no title, so Anne got a title, Zara and Peter did not. Neither did David and Sarah Armstrong Jones - they took curtesy titles from their father Earl Snowdon, not from their mother Princess Margaret.

This most recent action by the Queen does not change the fact that the title of Prince/Princess and style of Royal Highness is restricted to the children of the Sovereign’s sons

In short, Mark Phillips was not created an Earl. Therefore Peter and Zara have no titles

I do agree OP as I am very much anti-monarchy.

But at some point I did realise that if you don't read the tabloids or watch the 'regular' news on tv, you can escape most of it Smile

That's not to say I don't also enjoy a good moan about the royal family - bloody leeches Grin

MissEliza · 26/09/2017 10:32

Andrew got a big bash but neither of them were divorced. As she's divorced a massive cathedral wedding seems unlikely but then again, there's huge interest in Harry so they may need to find a venue that can cope with it.
For the record, I don't think she's royal material. That interview with Vanity Fair was really hypocritical. Harry has spoken a lot recently about how awful the press were to his mother then he's apparently ok with her giving a major interview and discussing him. You can't have it both ways. I think she's going to find it very difficult to be discreet.

Marcipex · 26/09/2017 10:36

Do people think they won't marry? I was assuming they would.

Maudlinmaud · 26/09/2017 10:39

Total derail here for a second. But on the subject of royal catholicism didn't Henry VIII convert back to the old faith on his death bed? Could be a myth or something I've remembered incorrectly.
On the subject of Harry, I've always assumed he's quite vulnerable and hope this lady has good intentions. If they do get hitched I'm definitely interested in seeing photos. I think she's very like Kate and that's a bit odd.

Nuttynoo · 26/09/2017 10:49

People are idiots they think MM did the Vanity Fair article without full royal support and knowledge.

eddiemairswife · 26/09/2017 11:02

The younger Royals are now just celebrities on a par with the Kardashians.

LuluJakey1 · 26/09/2017 11:06

Won't they have to get married in a registry office? If she is divorced and a catholic?

Nuttynoo · 26/09/2017 11:09

She’ll probably convert to coe if they marry. The coe doesn’t tend to care if you’re divorced.

TheRealBiscuitAddict · 26/09/2017 11:09

Haven't read rtft but: "The event Harry was at yesterday was completely overshadowed by the fact that his girlfriend was there too and that's all the press wanted to bang on about. Pathetic." actually what the press went on and on about was the fact that although they were both at the event, they sat separately. So it's clear that them being seen together is not considered appropriate.

Viviennemary · 26/09/2017 11:12

I don't think they'll get married. But who knows. Maybe he'll have to give up his right to succession if they do. Or have they changed the law.

eddiemairswife · 26/09/2017 11:13

Pictures today of them holding hands.

herecomesthsun · 26/09/2017 11:14

An important part of deciding whether people can remarry in a C of E church involves whether the new relationship was the reason for the old marriage ending.

Very tactless of the ex-husband therefore to get involved in a fictional drama about a messy break-up involving a Royal.

I can see though it would all make for a great soap opera - in all sorts of ways.

florafoxtrot · 26/09/2017 11:17

I'm with Clash - I can certainly get onboard if we get a public holiday out of it - and I think she'd be a beautiful bride Blush

I do wonder how her and KM get on, its not like they have much in common!

QueenoftheAndals · 26/09/2017 11:18

Maybe he'll have to give up his right to succession if they do

I shouldn't think he's too bothered by that, as he'll be pushed down something like sixth in line to the throne once Cambridge No. 3 is born.

Viviennemary · 26/09/2017 11:25

No I don't think Harry would mind. But I googled it and apparently he can now marry a Catholic and not give up his right to the throne. (Not that he's got much chance.) But he can't convert to Catholicism. Who would be party to this ridiculous circus.

expatinscotland · 26/09/2017 11:30

'Do people think they won't marry? I was assuming they would.'

Maybe they don't want to. Not all people do.

WeddingFever · 26/09/2017 11:30

Henry VIII lived and died a catholic. He was head of the church IN England not OF England. Semantics I know. He never converted to Prodestantism, in fact he was very suspicious of Katherine Parr when she wrote prayer books in the new faith. Henry didnt like reform at all Henry maintained a strong preference for traditional Catholic practices and, during his reign, Protestant reformers were unable to make many changes to the practices of the Church of England. Indeed, this part of Henry's reign saw the trial for heresy of Protestants as well as Roman Catholics.

1534 saw the seperation from Rome, but Prodestant reforms didnt arrive fully until Edward VI reign and subsequently Elizabeth I but more so with the common prayerbook under James I

WeddingFever · 26/09/2017 11:31

Point me to the sex tapes, make up lines and trangenders

paxillin · 26/09/2017 11:33

Do we get a Bank Holiday for the spare or is that reserved for the heir?

WomblingThree · 26/09/2017 11:35

She’s hardly the first girlfriend he’s had. Why is everyone so bloody obsessed with him getting married? Every time he’s seen in public with a woman, the frenzy starts. It’s so fucking tedious.

AncientAstronaut · 26/09/2017 11:36

HELLO, why is everyone ignoring the elephant in the room??

Do you really think the Royal family will allow a mixed race person to marry into the family?

I really cannot see this happening at all I am afraid.

expatinscotland · 26/09/2017 11:39

'Do you really think the Royal family will allow a mixed race person to marry into the family? '

He doesn't have to ask permission to marry whom he chooses. He's also under no obligation to keep a title, in fact, given how much he and Wills have complained about the press and blah blah blah, I'm surprised they do. There's also evidence that Queen Charlotte was mixed race.
