Bake off only for age 16+?!!

Watching the bake off last night with my kids, 8 and 6 on catch up. The annoying thing about it all now it's on c4 is that you obviously have to watch the adverts. No worries, we're all sitting there in our PJs with our Jamie dodgers.

Second advert break in comes an advert for 'snowman' film. Now, let me update you if you don't know what I mean, it's not the one we are all familiar with in this house (walking in the air!), oh no, it's a new film, focussing apparently on the story of bodies being found in the snow, headless. The advert is not subtle, and is not short. My kids eyes were out on stalks.

So I emailed c4 to let them know this wasn't the best. They just got back to me - apparently watching anything on demand is only for 16 year olds or older, so they reserve the right to show anything they like.

What do people think? I thought bake off was a 'family show'? Won't be watching it again with my kids, well done c4...

The reason MyNewBear is that they don't have to, so they are prioritising advertising revenue over serving a diverse audience. If they tried to do this when they broadcast the show they would be sanctioned by the ombudsman and potentially lose the right to that broadcast channel. But our government has not chosen to require companies who broadcast to serve their online audiences the way they serve their broadcast audience. Even though it's actually technically easier to make advertising more appropriate to the people watching any particular screen online.

We watch with 9yo on catch up as miss the live viewing and prefer her to be in bed before 9! Saw the ad. and I completely agree it was inappropriate for that programme. Well done for taking the time to flag up with c4.
