What the hell do you do in the bath?!

I'm sat here, have been for around 10 mins, in the bath and I'm BORED!!

I've just moved into a new house and this is the first place I've lived with a bath for years so I've forgotten how to do it.

I lit some candles (they do that on the telly), I tried reading but my book got wet, I watched the bathbomb fizz around for a bit... now what? Do I just lay here and try to forget the world?

You need a few more accessories.

A bath tray/bridge so you can prop up any devices, a bath pillow, Epsom/magnesium salts, a waterproof case/bag for your tablet/phone, ikea's high step stool at the side of the bath to put a stack of magazines/book on for when you're bored with device.

I'm the same, I think netflix would be a good idea but i need to get a little shelf or something first!!! Usually shave my legs, wash and then get bored and rinse off in the proper shower!

picknmiss · 20/09/2017 15:03

I used to love baths, all my books from my teenage years have crinkled pages from getting dipped or dropped! I used to find them so stress relieving after exams or tough days, really hot and fancy bubbles - bliss.

Got a crap bath now that has no ambience, it's small and full of plastic bath toys which isn't the same.

You need a big bath you can proper stretch out in and a good book Smile

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 20/09/2017 15:10

I play in the bubbles like a small child. I listen to music. I pretend I am young, free and single.

JohnHunter · 20/09/2017 15:11

I usually have a nap as the locked bathroom door offers 100% protection from marauding children.

LucilleBluth · 20/09/2017 15:12

OP, if it's evening you take a glass of wine, get some earphones and put on Spotify....then imagine that you've won an Oscar/ are shagging Dave Grohl/you've won the lottery etc etc.......forget the kids, DH, work etc.

Katedotness1963 · 20/09/2017 15:14

Do not stick your toe up the tap to prove to yourself only stupid people get their toes stuck in the tap, as it causes quite a panic when you find you can't get yours out. Or so I've heard...

Hollyhop17 · 20/09/2017 15:15

Drink gin and read!

SpaghettiAndMeatballs · 20/09/2017 15:16

Read, watch netflix, realise I'm getting a bit hot and start a trickle of cold in, so that in about 30mins to 45 the bath is cool, and I'm ready to get out.

Alternatively, the children discover I'm in the bath, come and talk to me angling for an invite, then both clamber in until it's too crowded and splashy for me to read so I get out and leave them to it.

ScarlettSahara · 20/09/2017 15:17

Say - you sound so poorly- hope you feel better soon Flowers.

You need tuition from my DD who can easily spend an hour - in the bathroom!
What does she do? Well I think it's
lights candle- drops said candle leaving molten wax (now moaning cos there are no candles)
listens to podcasts
watches you tube
lies in bubblebath
washes hair
shaves legs
reads book or magazine
has conversations with friends on Snapchat
then leaves mess (seems incapable of checking before exiting in spite of nagging) but did improve after receiving a note from the bath.

What do I do? - most of above but more quickly and always leave the bath how I would like to find it.

plus:
drink tea usually made by DH but once or twice by DD when she wants something (have shower curtain pulled round before DD ventures in).
sometimes listen to Archer's omnibus on a lazy Sunday.
check for breast lumps (has to be done and easier with soapy skin)
today did actually clean bath taps with a scouring pad before stepping out whilst thinking that it was not normal but you did ask! Grin

ScarlettSahara · 20/09/2017 15:24

Oh & I kept one toddler stool step in bathroom which is now next to bath for magazines & keep towel in close proximity to dry hands so I don't wet the pages.

Never got on with bath oil since it seems to leave a difficult to remove residue. Ditto Lush glittery bath bombs or is that just me? Confused

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 20/09/2017 15:25

Put a laptop on a chair and watch tv or read , glass of wine, music on, sing in to the hair brush

iseenodust · 20/09/2017 15:32

Nothing. PP mentioned go off in a trance and that's me too. You do need bubbles & to keep it hot. Can easily stay in more than an hour. I reckon it's less faff & cheaper than going to yoga.

charliebear78 · 20/09/2017 15:34

I do not like baths either-I tend to get in and get out-takes more time to fill the tub!
I have tried reading with a glass of wine but normally get bored/cold
I stick to showers

Musereader · 20/09/2017 15:47

You are supposed to enjoy the time you have to yourself.

The thing about baths is it is more the time to yourself than about the bath. Seriously i had the same attitude to baths when i had no child, because there wasnt any relaxing that i could do just as easily on the couch or in the bed. I could just read and clear my mind whenever and wherever i wanted.

Now i am a single parent to a 1 year old child, she has to be with me constantly and share everything i have, EVERYTHING. Food, drink, chair, phone, books, tv, bed, anyhing i pick up is her new favourite toy she has to investigate totally. So going to my mum and saying can you watch her for an hour while i have a bath is the only peace and alone time i have.

JustDanceAddict · 20/09/2017 15:48

Read and shave legs.

Shodan · 20/09/2017 15:49

I bath for an hour (at least) every night Grin

20-40 minutes reading my Kindle

20 minutes Silent Contemplation and Meditation (aka daydreaming and sometimes light snoozing)

Then washing.

BUT- I have a 3/4 size bath, so don't slide down to the end. Feet are propped either on the wall or I have my knees bent. They don't get cold because the bathroom is small and gets very hot from the heat of my bath.

My baths are the time when most of my jewellery designs are dreamt up. Also solutions to problems etc. Wink

I did try candles/wine/music but vastly prefer my method.

Eliza9917 · 20/09/2017 16:02

BrieAndChilli
Looks like there's a market for grown up bath toys!!!

They have those adult rubber ducks. They vibrate I think.

What the hell do you do in the bath?!
missymayhemsmum · 20/09/2017 16:18

If you can get bored it isnt hot or deep enough, and you need a better book.

ForagingForFaerieGold · 20/09/2017 16:38

Baths are no fun on your own. Wink.

gluteustothemaximus · 20/09/2017 16:48

DH and I used to share our baths when we just had DC1. We would chat for ages, drink 🍷 and it was lovely. Could easily spend over an hour in there.

Now we have 3 children, no chance. DD always comes in and chats to keep me company Hmm and DH looks after DS2. It's quite sweet though. We have nice chats 😊

In the olden days I would do face mask, leg shave, hair wash and condition, relax, read, drink wine.

FooFighter99 · 20/09/2017 17:07

Fuck all cos I can't fit in the damn thing!!!! Sad Angry [envious]

Dumdedumdum · 20/09/2017 17:12

I inevitably sleep and wake up with a start in cold water

susannahmoodie · 20/09/2017 17:16

I play my audio book
