What the hell do you do in the bath?!

I'm sat here, have been for around 10 mins, in the bath and I'm BORED!!

I've just moved into a new house and this is the first place I've lived with a bath for years so I've forgotten how to do it.

I lit some candles (they do that on the telly), I tried reading but my book got wet, I watched the bathbomb fizz around for a bit... now what? Do I just lay here and try to forget the world?

I put music on my phone and sing along loudly. OR listen to podcasts.

SusanTheGentle · 20/09/2017 14:05

Read. For a very long time. With hot water top-ups.

This with bells on. Lengthy epic reading, occasionallly encompassing entire books if they're short/any good. (I read fast, tbf.)

Also: listening to the radio, playing stupid games on my phone, yelling for my DH to fetch me things.

I have not yet found a successful way to knit but I'm working on it.

TeaMeBasil · 20/09/2017 14:06

I read - but more often, I prop the iPad up on the loo & netflix away.....yell for wine after 10 mins or so. I could take one in myself of course but much more fun to use the 'but I'm in the bath' excuse for DP to deliver one. I got a bonus toasted muffin delivery once - never before considered eating a snack in the bath but it was surprisingly very decadent.

Audiobook is good if you want to lie back with your eyes shut. Cat usually comes to visit for a bit & then wanders off.

I've gotten really good at it. 😄

Sayyouwill · 20/09/2017 14:07

It's been about half an hour. The water has gone cold and I've achieved nothing. I'm getting out.

Next time I will make sure the iPad is charged up!! And that it's evening so I can have wine

I get in, think "oooh too hot", decide to grin and bear it until my body gets used to the heat, forget that my hands are wet, grab phone, almost have heart attack when it slips. Catch it, set it on loo, stretch for a towel and dry hands, grab phone, check MN and FB, feel all hot and slippery, remember why I don't actually like baths and get out. I last all of about 2 inured in the bath. I don't see the point at all.

BackieJerkhart · 20/09/2017 14:08

Minutes! Not injured.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/09/2017 14:09

Rarely have one. If i do, watch tv on the iPad.

Sayyouwill · 20/09/2017 14:10

When I was a child I'd eat a pot noodle in the bath occasionally.
One of my friends genuinely thought you would die if you ate while wet. He got it from the whole no swimming after you eat thing but he thought I had been playing with my life as a child

Have you put in bubbles or oil?? You can't have a plain bath!

And A bath should massively help your achy bits!

I still like to get a dettol bath when I've been out walking in the wilds and I've got cuts etc from the brambles barbed fucking wire

pigsDOfly · 20/09/2017 14:10

Last had a bath about 3 years ago. It seemed like a good idea, a nice relaxing bath, but after I'd half filled the bath, which seemed to take forever, I realised I couldn't really be arsed.

However, I got in anyway and, nothing, I was just sitting in a lot of hot water with some smelly stuff in it.

I don't want to sit in a bath of cooling water and read, it's more comfortable in a chair, don't want to watch stuff on my mobile. It's just boring lying there. Much prefer the feeling on water running on me under a shower. Could actually spend more time in the shower than in a bath.

Mayhemmumma · 20/09/2017 14:10

Water needs a to be hot
Wash hair then stick on face mask and conditioner.
Shave
Cut nails

Originalfoogirl · 20/09/2017 14:11

I'm quite short so I had my tiptoes against the bottom of the bath

Oh this is the reason I generally avoid baths. Sooooo difficult for short people. I do find a bath pillow helps a bit, but I need some kind of thing at the end of the bath which makes it shorter!

Sayyouwill · 20/09/2017 14:11

@MaxPepsi bath bomb. Only have some of the baby's bath stuff ATM and I hate the smell of lavender

Mayhemmumma · 20/09/2017 14:11

And yeah to bath oil!

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2017 14:13

Give my feet a proper wash , maybe shave my arms and legs before getting out, then give it a good clean.
prefer showers though, less faff.

RiversrunWoodville · 20/09/2017 14:13

I have the kobo h2o for that reason you can drop it in the bath and it survives so I can read for ages. I love a long evening soak as it's the only time I ever get peace (except for the cat who has recently taken to either sitting in the shower opposite chirruping for some odd reason or like last night falling in the bath with me, then causing pandemonium)

PickAChew · 20/09/2017 14:13

Lay with my head under the water and cogitate.

DiegoMadonna · 20/09/2017 14:14

Lie back and relax?

If you can't do nothing for 10 minutes without grabbing your phone and complaining that you're bored, then you probably have some sort of hyperactivity disorder or something.

Don't worry - it's a common symptom of the modern world.

FrenchJunebug · 20/09/2017 14:15

think of nothing at all. Only place I can do so in peace.

cudeatahorse · 20/09/2017 14:16

I stay in there way too long and have it way too hot, then I'm usually drained and have to have a lie down to recover.

MaxPepsi · 20/09/2017 14:16

Ah. Bath bombs are shit. It's no bloody wonder you didn't enjoy it.

Nice creamy, non lavender smelling bubble bath is what you need 😊

I love baths. I read a magazine, glass of wine, chocolate. Or stare into space, daydream and relax. I like bubble bath / epsom salts which actually do soften your skin, ease muscle aches etc so you have to stay in for a good half hour. All of this is only possible if no kids around of course. Otherwise it's listen to endless monologue of pooing 7yo.

I cannot understand people who prefer showers. In a bath you can lie down and have a rest!

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 20/09/2017 14:22

Read, watch Netflix , pamper. Love baths but no baths since June when the boiler went sobs luckily shower is electric. When my back aches I like to half run the bath and stick the power shower on aimed at my shoulders/back.like being pummeled by tiny little fists
