That Biden article is interesting - I should Google really to see how old he is to see whether a 2020 run is feasible.. mind you, Scrotus is pretty fucking old!

Is it only me who wonders why the heck Farage is there, or whether the supporting some POS in their election is cover for 'Mr Mueller has requested an interview and I need a cover story'?

PerkingFaintly · 24/09/2017 22:45

Yeah the Farage thing is really odd.

badbadhusky · 24/09/2017 23:02

The TakeAKnee hashtag has set Twitter alight this evening. Continuing support from military families. Obama has tweeted asking if the people who are complaining bother to get up out of their lazyboys to stand when the anthem is playing. Grin

badbadhusky · 24/09/2017 23:05

Trump's at the 'swinging punches in a crowded bar' stage - he knows his days are numbered and he's trying to do as much damage as possible before he's yanked off the world stage. Like a belligerent drunk, I can't see him going quietly. Let's just hope that he doesn't irreparably damage US civic society and its institutions in the process.

Saffronwblue · 24/09/2017 23:40

It is not a good idea to take on the entire sporting workd. Even maverick Australian tennis player Kyrgios has taken a knee. thenewdaily.com.au/sport/other-sports/2017/09/25/us-sports-teams-kneel-donald-trump/?utm_source=Responsys&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20170925_TND
My concern is that 45 will be flailing around to get this off the news cycle and will escalate even further with NK.

Of course, the funny (not funny) part of this is that Scrotus really believes that 'it's all about the ratings'. How stupid can he be not to realize that locked arms and taking a knee is the same thing.

He just can't stand to lose, can he?

Saffronwblue · 25/09/2017 04:16

Here is a concerning anecdote.

A friend of mine just called me having landed an hour ago in Melbourne from LAX. Her plane sat on the tarmac for over 2 hours before leaving - they were told the flight was delayed due to military activity in the skies and they did not know when they were going to be able to take off.

Not surprising that Trump will revamp the travel ban. This could render legal challenges to the current ban moot, forcing new wave of suits.

Jim Sciutto
Jim Sciutto @jimsciutto
Most important word here is "indefinite" - this is a permanent ban which includes countries w/long history of emigration to US

That's a really interesting article, Pain, about how Facebook shifted from saying "nothing to see here" to "we've found 3000 Russian political ads".

"Facebook agreed to set up a special unit to develop tools for finding Islamic State messages and blocking their dissemination. Facebook’s efforts were aided in part by the relatively transparent ways in which the extremist group sought to build its global brand. Most of its propaganda messages on Facebook incorporated the Islamic State’s distinctive black flag — the kind of image that software programs can be trained to automatically detect.
...
The sophistication of the Russian tactics caught Facebook off-guard. Its highly regarded security team had erected formidable defenses against traditional cyber attacks but failed to anticipate that Facebook users — deploying easily available automated tools such as ad micro-targeting — pumped skillfully crafted propaganda through the social network without setting off any alarm bells.

For a long time, Facebook didn't know what it should be looking for or how to find it. It's slowly getting a handle on some of this... but I'm sure the attacks will evolve.

OuaisMaisBon · 25/09/2017 10:22

Why aren't Trump and his flunkies shouting "Lock him up" at Ivanka Trump's husband? Oh, what, it's "do as I say, not as I do" and one law for the Trump family and another for the Obamas and Clintons? Of course, because that's what the Constitution says, all Presidents except #45 are accountable to their electorate.

I might be a little bit in luuuurve with George Clooney Grin

That’s really odd Saffron - particularly if it’s unusual to her if she flies reasonably often. We have an airport near us that is close to a military air base, but flights are rarely delayed as they are timed around the base schedules.
