Please settle our argument.....I think that Waitrose food is posher than M&S food, DH think M&S is the poshest? Who is right?

M&S!

macncheesewithbacon · 15/09/2017 19:58

Both wrong, Booths is the poshest 😁

From a Northerner

camelfinger · 15/09/2017 19:58

M&S.

dalek · 15/09/2017 19:58

Don't know about more posh but Waitrose is definitely more expensive !

And Waitrose have the best staff

BulletFox · 15/09/2017 19:59

M&S

Caprianna · 15/09/2017 20:00

Depends what you mean by post food? I don't think either is posh.

purplecorkheart · 15/09/2017 20:00

Not from the UK but love visiting Supermarket when I am over there. I would consider Waitrose superior to M&S.

silverbell64 · 15/09/2017 20:00

I prefer M&S, Waitrose is just stupidly expensive and offers practically the same as most supermarkets these days.

PetronellaOsgood · 15/09/2017 20:03

Waitrose, definitely, closely followed by Booths , then M&S, Sainsbury's, Aldi/Lidl, Tesco, Morrisons and then Asda. Not that I've given this a lot of thought Grin

Mrskeats · 15/09/2017 20:04

Waitrose and booths

RicottaPancakes · 15/09/2017 20:05

Well, it was just a lighthearted argument, I know there's no definition of "posh" really....

OP posts:
MyNewBearTotoro · 15/09/2017 20:05

M&S definitely posher

LaurieFairyCake · 15/09/2017 20:06

Fortnums Wink

RicottaPancakes · 15/09/2017 20:06

Well Petronella, DH thinks Aldi/Lidl should come after Asda....

smellybeanpole · 15/09/2017 20:07

M&S food is gorgeous.

SilverySurfer · 15/09/2017 20:07

Not sure I would put Aldi/Lidl before Tesco, I don't shop at either but when I have gone to one with a friend, they remind me of a jumble sale.

Bobbybobbins · 15/09/2017 20:08

YABU - M&S is definitely posher! Grin

Urubu · 15/09/2017 20:10

I came to live in the UK 5+ years ago and had no idea which supermarkets were posh or not. Waitrose stood out as the fanciest one, M&S is good but the choice is limited as they don't do other brands (or very little) and quality is not always the best.

silverbell64 · 15/09/2017 20:10

What I meant to say is they all sell more or less the same food but package things differently and charge the gullible more Grin

TidyDancer · 15/09/2017 20:10

M&S is definitely posher than Waitrose. I tend to find it harder to do a decent shop there though.

SonicBoomBoom · 15/09/2017 20:11

I rank supermarkets as:

M&S
Waitrose
Sainsbury's
Morrisons
Tesco
Asda
Aldi
Lidl

(I'd probably put Tesco above Morrisons, really, but I hate Tesco as a company. So I've demoted it on principle)

Racoonworld · 15/09/2017 20:11

I don't think either are particularly posh, just standard food shops round here. M&S has nicer and better quality food though.

SonicBoomBoom · 15/09/2017 20:12

But yes, Waitrose staff are much nicer than M&S.

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2017 20:12

Waitrose is posher than M&S. I couldn't imagine doing a weekly shop in M&S, our local one is nowhere near a car park either so not sure how that would work.

I am not loyal to any one supermarket though. It's all a huge chore. I just need it to have Scan and Shop.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 15/09/2017 20:13

No, I think Waitrose is more posh - M&S is more or less ready meals and very expensive for what they are vegetables and fruit, now. It's clear the buyers for M&S aren't real foodies, whereas the ones for Waitrose are.
