Please settle our argument.....I think that Waitrose food is posher than M&S food, DH think M&S is the poshest? Who is right?

Like them both. M&S consistently have better fruit and vegetables than any other supermarket. I think their fish is better too. They also sell wild salmon, farmed salmon has some pretty horrible practices.

If it is my turn to do the shopping I'll go to M&S . My husband goes to Waitrose when it's his week.

Miserylovescompany2 · 15/09/2017 20:43

Never heard of Booths - just done a quick search and I'm now salivating...

Waitrose is better quality than M&S - plus you can't do a full shop at M&S - love their ready made salads plus their Wensleydale & carrot chutney sandwich have aimlessly searched for a jar of the chutney never found it yet

proplapsingallover · 15/09/2017 20:44

Waitrose is much posher. Waitrose sells proper ingredients that you can cook with.

M&S sells nicely packaged processed food (although they have improved their range of ingredients in past couple of years). M&S is a lower middle class Iceland.

PumbletonWakeshaft · 15/09/2017 20:44

Oh if you aren't unfortunate enough to have a COOK shop near you - www.cookfood.net/

ProfessorCat · 15/09/2017 20:45

DH who used to work for a food packaging plant, says that the nicest cuts of meat, better quality vegetables etc went to M&S. Waitrose was on the same level as Tesco with Morrisons and Asda bringing up the rear.

abigailgabble · 15/09/2017 20:46

M&S. waitrose is posh for Asda people.

Thisismadness · 15/09/2017 20:48

If you really want to come out feeling like you've massively over spent, go to Wholefoods! Not sure it's posh but there's nothing cheap at all.

Waitrose do great quality but cheap toiletries especially if you have sensitive skin, definitely not at the posh end but I rate them a lot.

macncheesewithbacon · 15/09/2017 20:48

Yorkie- WTF I haven't got my Xmas catalog yet Angry

OlennasWimple · 15/09/2017 20:49

Misery - those are my favourite sandwiches too! And I've never found the chutney either...

DrGrey · 15/09/2017 20:57

Partridges and Booths are 'posher'

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/09/2017 20:58

M&S sandwiches are much nicer than just about anywhere. And of course they sell stuff you can cook from scratch- very odd to say they don't.

Miserylovescompany2 · 15/09/2017 21:01

Onennas you'd of thought they themselves would have sold the stuff? I've asked annoyed an assistant in every size store to no avail...

Beadieeye · 15/09/2017 21:04

Waitrose posher
M&S better quality

KindergartenKop · 15/09/2017 21:07

M and s, because waitrose has an 'essentials' range. Which includes haloumi cheese!

Allwashedup · 15/09/2017 21:07

Waitrose definitely posher than M&S.

Fauchelevent · 15/09/2017 21:18

How did i never come across Cook! I'm not sure why I, as a home chef, want to pay £6 for meals i can "cook" myself but I doooo they got me

ILikeyourHairyHands · 15/09/2017 21:23

I don't think M&S is a bit posh. Don't rate their food at all.

SonicBoomBoom · 15/09/2017 21:24

M&S has a basics range too, by the way.

maxthemartian · 15/09/2017 21:27

You can't really get much at M&S, certainly not do a proper shop.
And the fruit and veg are eye wateringly expensive.

YorkieDorkie · 15/09/2017 21:29

@macncheesewithbacon sorry I cheated, it's a previous year! They're just so pwetty 😍. Can't wait for this year's.

I wonder if it depends on your M&S? Ours isn't very nice, the Food Hall is down in the basement adjacent to Childrens' clothes. The branch is right in the middle of a pedestrianised High Street with all car parks a good walk away.

I can't get out of there quick enough.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 15/09/2017 21:37

Waitrose is far better than M&S.

It has a much wider range of fresh ingredients.

Ukelou · 15/09/2017 21:42

I believe m&s do a carrot chutney not sure its the ssme as in the sandwiches but definitely do a carrot chutney quite new so might be worth looking again.
