To judge this woman?

Leaving the local maternity unit today and a heavily pregnant woman who is obviously a patient as she was wearing a dressing gown, slippers and pyjamas was standing right near the doorway smoking a cigarette, there is a big sign up saying 'no smoking on campus'. Aibu to judge her that she is not only putting her own baby at risk but she wants to put other people's baby's at risk from secondhand smoke as well? I would definitely have said something if i were leaving the unit with my newborn baby!

Polliver, why is it pathetic? I truly believe that there are far worse ills out there. Everything in moderation is fine.

limitedperiodonly · 11/09/2017 21:00

Hell yes I would judge. And throw her a filthy look.

That's the spirit. It's the filthy look that shows them

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:00

And yes, if I wished to get into some sort of argument about it then pollution will do far more than a few fags.

WetsTheFinger · 11/09/2017 21:00

Meh, just trying to be honest. Wouldn't be able to keep my face impassive if I witnessed that.

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:02

A filthy look just makes you look angry and weird.

MsJudgemental · 11/09/2017 21:02

Silverbell, I'm really enjoying judging you! Grin

Rachie1973 · 11/09/2017 21:03

It's an irony-free zone tonight.

If you're going to give people spelling lessons Rachie1973, best get your adverbs straight. It's wrongly, not wrong.

It didn't pass me by, I thought I'd join in

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:04

Grin at MsJudgemental

limitedperiodonly · 11/09/2017 21:04

Quite right Wets. I'd have given her my most contemptuous tut as well.

limitedperiodonly · 11/09/2017 21:05

Sorry RAchie1973. Please forgive me. I am discusted with myself Wink.

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:07

It just makes me laugh, can't help it, when people screw their faces up and tut. Mind you a flounce is even better.

Rachie1973 · 11/09/2017 21:08

And a hair toss makes it even better

Crumbs1 · 11/09/2017 21:10

I'd just make smoking anywhere in public illegal. Problem solved.

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:10

Yeah, then I think she must use clairol cos she's worth it Grin

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:11

That's why you would never govern a democracy Crumbs.

Mandraki · 11/09/2017 21:11

What is there to understand? All those saying they wouldn't judge without understanding the situation. She's pregnant, she's smoking, that's vile. I wouldn't say anything to her because I don't know her, but I would judge away.

Primrose06 · 11/09/2017 21:12

It's common outside the nearest hospital. There are signs but I don't think it is something that can be enforced or that breaks the law.
It is always sad but they will smoke when they have their tiny baby home because they are smokers.

Crispsheets · 11/09/2017 21:12

The stupidity of some people is unbelievable.

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:13

The hypocracy of some people is pretty sad.

Ceto · 11/09/2017 21:25

I was sort of on your side, OP, but am irrationally put off by the constant misspelling of "babies".

broadbeany · 11/09/2017 21:26

Everybody who's:

  • Lit a sparkler
  • Had a barbeque
  • Uses a woodburner
  • Has hung on to an old car longer than they really needed to
  • Has ever flown anywhere on holiday
  • Has ever bought anything which was imported when it could have been produced domestically
  • Has ever driven anywhere they could have walked
  • Has ever driven faster than they needed to
  • Etc., etc.

Is guilty of unnecessarily polluting the air we all have to breath. I guess the best thing about the way the Puritans obsess about the smokers is that the rest of us are left alone a little longer.

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:29

Oh and there is the adage that is absolute fact. A smoker pays for every bit of health care they get and one other through taxes Grin

SlothMama · 11/09/2017 21:34

I think smoking during pregnancy is disgusting, it's well known the risks you are forcing onto your unborn child. Makes me so angry seeing anyone smoke outside of a hospital next to a no smoking sign just shows how little they care about everyone else.

CreamCol0uredP0nies · 11/09/2017 21:36

While I would try not to judge smoking pregnant women because I don't know the individual circumstances, I do feel frustrated reading the number of responses who think smoking while pregnant is ok.
There is help out there for women to give up smoking.
Health professionals invest so much time and energy into this.
Not to mention the negative effects smoking has on the unborn child and on babies and children in general.
Plus there is such a thing as individual responsibility regardless of background.

silverbell64 · 11/09/2017 21:39

What risks? There is no more a risk than breathing the pollution that we do every day. There is more of a risk to the unborn child if the smoker has to abstain. Unborns are far more affected by the mothers moods and angst. So I would say to you in a far nicer way, you need to chill out Grin and not think so much is "disgugsting'
