Travelling alone.

Preferably one week but can do two.

Throw ideas at me :)

Beach? Mountains/walking? Culture/city? what do you like to do?

PlayOnWurtz · 11/09/2017 17:41

Vienna at Christmas

NetballHoop · 11/09/2017 17:42

Greece, all that history and some very nice islands too.
Madagascar, because I've always wanted to go there.
Iceland, hot springs, Northern lights, volcanoes and trolls.

SingingSeuss · 11/09/2017 17:43

A friend recently went to Belgium on her own and had a blast!

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 17:43

I would probably go to a city so I didn't need to drive anywhere and I would love the bookshops and museums and art galleries. New York or Portland as an alternative. If you like beach too then maybe Barcelona. In a complete contrast I would go and do a wellness week and do some yoga and lying down!

fabulousathome · 11/09/2017 17:47

Cyprus? Good weather for the time of year and not too far.

NotAgainYoda · 11/09/2017 17:48

I'd go to Iceland

It's beautiful in an other-worldly way, and people are so friendly. I felt utterly comfortable there

TheNaze73 · 11/09/2017 17:48

Malta

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 17:49

Iceland sounds nice.

I feel a bit deflated though. Maybe travel alone isn't going to be great. And it's expensive.

New York
Do Prague, Budapest and Vienna on a train ride through them
Tuscany
Milan
Lisbon
Reijkavik
St Petersburg

NotAgainYoda · 11/09/2017 17:49

Also New York or San Franciso

SpeckledyHen · 11/09/2017 17:52

What time of year ?

Babymamamama · 11/09/2017 17:53

I would go on a yoga retreat to Greece.

Tartyflette · 11/09/2017 17:54

If you want some company and also like being reasonably active there are lots of walking/cycling group holidays in France (which usually has OK weather this time of year. )
For me I'd probably go to a VERY good hotel (not too large, mind) with pools and possibly treatments etc and great food, either in or very near an interesting town or small city.
in the uk -- Bath? Stratford?
In France - Bordeaux? Biarritz?
In northern Spain - San Sebastian?
In Italy - Bologna?
Bruges in Belgium is pretty but small and can get crowded. Brussels is worth a look, interesting architecture, galleries and museums, also LOADS of (divine but hugely expensive ) chocolate shops and very close indeed by Eurostar.
Would you like some long-haul ideas too?

Domino20 · 11/09/2017 17:54

Split. It's easily connected by local ferry to loads of wonderful islands and is fabulous in its own right.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 17:54

Pretty much now, or next month :)

I don't know, though. I can't imagine it being very enjiyable, somehow.

I was in Portland recently, and it was fabulous for walking round, and loads to see, esp if you can drive. I loved the quirky atmosphere.

What do you like to do? I'd love a week or two of museums, art galleries, historical sites by myself with time to just sit and look, so Rome, Florence, Vienna would work for me - or doing something active. I really fancy a sea swimming holiday for instance, and a friend has just been on a yoga holiday that they loved

GreenTulips · 11/09/2017 17:55

Where are you and how old?

There are groups that go traveling so you go alone but together iycwim

SpiritedLondon · 11/09/2017 17:56

If you joined a group like Exodus or other tour you wouldn't need to worry about the arrangements. Wanderlust magazine just had an article about travelling to Iceland on a budget.

LineysRunner · 11/09/2017 17:58

honeybee, I'm thinking about this, too, as I'll be on my own soon once both DC are at university.

I don't know whether to go back somewhere I loved in the past and am kind of familiar with, or whether to try somewhere new.

I'm very fond of geology and old ruins. And wildlife. DS suggested a dark wet weekend in Whitby.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 17:58

I am 36.

I've unexpectedly got time away from work.

I'm also single, and feeling a bit low about it. I know I should be happy being my own woman and all the rest of it but I'm still feeling a bit rubbish.

Rome appeals. I would love to go to America but realistically it probably is a bit too pricey.

OP posts:
honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 17:58

We should join forces Liney - I adore wildlife!

Zanzibar. Stone Town, then Nungwi. Flight to Dar Es Salaam, then ferry to the island.
