Travelling alone.

Preferably one week but can do two.

Throw ideas at me :)

I'd go to Amsterdam and drift around coffee shops and get chatting to people from all walks of life from around the world - one minute you're chatting with an American businessperson chilling out on a layover, the next it's an Italian postgrad student, the next it's a chef from Wales, etc! Wander around all the canals in a contented daze, go to museums etc. You could even stay on an Airbnb canal boat Grin

Sparkletastic · 11/09/2017 18:00

Are you into anything like yoga, art, cookery, cycling? I think a week could be enjoyable if you had an activity to focus on and company if you wanted it.

jaseyraex · 11/09/2017 18:01

I went to Finland on my own for a week before I met DH and had children. It was absolutely wonderful and seeing the northern lights was an amazing experience. Although the first night there I remember feeling a bit lonely and nervous, I met some lovely people the next day. You will get talking to people and you'll have some amazing experiences to remember. Do it!

fabulousathome · 11/09/2017 18:01

Have you ever been to Venice? Marvellous place. Or go on a cruise. They sit you with others at dinner, it can very friendly.

BayLeaves · 11/09/2017 18:01

Oh yes Sparkletastic's idea is good too, there are "retreats" for pretty much every hobby you can think of. Art in the Alps would be nice Smile

BumbleNova · 11/09/2017 18:02

have you heard of "flash pack"? some great ideas!

Tartyflette · 11/09/2017 18:02

There are mindfulless/wellness retreats in India (Goa/Kerala) as well as yoga.
For an exotic long-haul city holiday Tokyo is hard to beat - completely foreign and fascinating but oddly familiar too and absolutely safe.
Not cheap but not ridiculous, you can eat out very cheaply at insanely good noodle places in the major Underground stations, many of which have mini-malls -- yes, underground.

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 11/09/2017 18:02

What's you're budget? If you like wildlife there are a million different trips you could do.

Do you like roughing it a bit? DH goes on a solo holiday to see random birds / animals every couple of years. I don't think he misses us at all 😁

Whales in Norway? Silverbacks in Rwanda? Tigers in India? The list is endless.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:02

Problem is Golden you have just described my day to day life ! I often find that the problem is things that can take all or most of a day take at best an hour or so when alone.

Amsterdam isn't somewhere I'd thought of. It could be lovely though, I imagine?

Rome and Florence. Or Nice.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:04

Gosh all of those and more amouse :)

I would adore a safari holiday but too expensive and probably not for the solo traveller. Sad face.

I've travelled alone a number of times, short haul and long haul and absolutely LOVE it. My next adventure (next month) is to Budapest and Vienna.

Corcory · 11/09/2017 18:05

What about a Mediterranean cruise? You have all the facilities on board like a spa and entertainment then you visit interesting places every day so you can go on an organised tour or by yourself what ever takes your fancy.

Worriedrose · 11/09/2017 18:06

It's tough
Can you do a tour. Not a tacky one
But if you're really into food, maybe Italy, a cooking course
Or art history course
I've been thinking about it. Expensive, but might be worth it.
There were a few websites that cater for tours. even if it's not something you know a lot about, emmersing yourself in something new might be helpful

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:06

I don't think I fancy a cruise - I suffer from quite bad motion sickness and would be miserable.

Everyone I know who has been to Slovenia has loved it

Worriedrose · 11/09/2017 18:07

And safaris would be great on your own, but only if you join a group.
My mother did a tour like that

bananafanana1 · 11/09/2017 18:07

I've done a lot of traveling alone. It's different but brilliant- enjoy 😊

LineysRunner · 11/09/2017 18:08

We could go on an Agatha Christie-style stay on a remote puffin island, honeybee, and I'll play the part of your wittering dipsomaniac companion, and you can be the younger mysterious siren.

purpledonkey · 11/09/2017 18:09

Go on a tour of India. Fabulous. I'd go too if I could. Smile

Worriedrose · 11/09/2017 18:10

@LineysRunner
Ooooh I love that idea. Can I join!!??

user1492877024 · 11/09/2017 18:10

What is your overall budget including spending money? This may help us with ideas.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:12

India sounds amazing but probably a bit costly!

Lineys I want to join David Attenborough filming cheetahs or something.
