Travelling alone.

Preferably one week but can do two.

Throw ideas at me :)

I'm not sure user - I do have money but just don't want to blow everything on my holiday, you know? Not even sure if I am going to go, but I just feel I desperately need something to look forward to !

Didn't read all the replies...
But how about Rome or any other city?
I've done a few on my own, always saying in (youth) hostel. Honestly, they where some of my best holidays ...

I'd go somewhere like Goa. There will be plenty of people travelling on their own. I went years ago and met loads of solo travellers. Including one very glamorous and lovely woman who has always stuck in my mind. She was a self employed book editor type person. She would work her socks off to get a project finished in super quick time so she could go off travelling on her own for months Envy.

I went to Greece on my own when I was 28 and had a fabulous time. I met lots of lovely people from the minute I got on the plane Smile.

Rome is really appealing to me in fact.

What is the weather usually like in October?

WorriedRose, bring your pith helmet and binoculars.

helpfulperson · 11/09/2017 18:18

Have a think about what you mean by wanting to go on holiday 'alone'. Do you want to spend the time by yourself, pleasing only yourself or do you want to actually be with people most of the time but willing to compromise a bit because you are in a group.

I've done both and they are both great fun in different ways.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/09/2017 18:19

It'll be perfect in Rome in October. Go. Go. Go. You don't have to go for a full week. It would make a perfect short break.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:20

Thanks! Groups don't appeal - just feels a bit forced and embarrassing.

What are your interests? My daughter's into yoga and had a fantastic week in Ibiza (not the Club 18-30 part!) Tell us what you like to do and we can try to find something for you.

Okay, listen up. Cheap flight to Nairobi (£350 rtn) A couple of days there staying at a decent hotel for less than £25 per night. Twelve hour bus ride to Mombassa (£20 - £30) Tuk tuk ride to Diani Beach (peanuts). Stay at 'Stilts' in a tree house in the bush for about £15 per night and party the night away at forty thieves bar on the Indian Ocean beach. Paradise. Look them up on the internet.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 11/09/2017 18:24

Trip to Vietnam in a group, leaving 24 September.

Flyingprettycretonnecurtains · 11/09/2017 18:26

I'm doing the same thing. Hopefully finish medical treatment mid October and so looking to celebrate with a little holiday somewhere in the last week and into November. I've not had a summer holiday. It's been a bit gruelling since March and I might still be having after effects so I don't want to go too far. Was thinking about The Channel Islands. Sort of abroad but not. I quite like holidaying alone. The first few days are nice but it does get a bit lonely at evening meal times. A spa is good because often you meet people and get chatting.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 11/09/2017 18:26

India - one place left! Leaving at the start of October.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:28

I feel a bit funny talking to people who aren't travelling alone, as mostly they're couples. I wish my life was like an advert where I have three or four girl friends to fly to New York with at a whim!

Travel the west coast of America and the national parks.

honeybeelavender · 11/09/2017 18:29

Oh, i would LOVE to do that!

One of my fantasies is to walk the Camino del Santiago solo.
It's not really a religious thing any more. All walkers stop over in the same villages and eat and drink together and then head on their way the next day. Meant to be very social yet no fixed arrangement where you are stuck with any one group. Every one takes their own pace

ethelfleda · 11/09/2017 18:31

What's the budget? You can do Cambodia in 2 weeks.
Look on secret escapes - great website for inspiration and I've booked a few breaks with them!

MyBrilliantDisguise · 11/09/2017 18:31

They wouldn't be in couples on trips like this, though. It would be cheaper for a couple to sort something out for themselves. It'll be for people in exactly your position. Why not phone the companies and ask them?

Blackcatonthesofa · 11/09/2017 18:34

If you like the beach, warm weather and cheap seafood I recommend the Algarve in Portugal.
If you like culture you can do a mix of Belgium, The Netherlands and maybe Germany. Bruges, Amsterdam and Munster are all really nice

Worriedrose · 11/09/2017 18:35

I think it really depends on the group. And lots aren't couples. You can phone the tour folks and talk to them.
I really felt the same way as you. Single and no one to go on holiday. But I think you need to open your horizons!!

Blackcatonthesofa · 11/09/2017 18:35

The weather in Amsterdam is shit though at the moment. Proper cats and dogs and all that.

Maria1982 · 11/09/2017 18:36

I went to Madeira by myself when I had more holiday than my DP a few years ago. It was ace.good at this time of year too.

SpottedOnMN · 11/09/2017 18:36

My two favourite places I've travelled alone were Krakow and Venice. I stayed in a monastery (google Monastery Stays) in Venice which was so cheap and central. Wherever you go, do lots of free walking tours and you might meet people to go for drinks or dinner with.
