AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name

MmmmDonuts · 09/09/2017 20:32

I wanted my baby to have a one of a kind unique name.
I made up a name that I love. It's definetly never been used before.
(I realise this sounds dodgy already)

Anyway, my baby is 7 months old and someone in my town has just given birth and used the name.
I actually feel really gutted about it.

I realise I am about to be flamed in the comments.
BUt how can I feel less gutted about this? Meh

Is it really Farrah?

Funny, re: the previous Buffy the Vampire Slayer references; we were watching season 1 last night and Buffy referred to her mom as having "Farrah hair."

I met a kid once named Tyme Bomb.

Benedikte2 · 09/09/2017 21:29

I expect John Mills and Mary Hayley-Bell felt the same as you OP. All the tens of thousands of Hayley's and variations of the name followed their daughter Hayley Mills' acting debut ( in Tiger Bay, I think). Now the name is so common it's extremely unlikely anyone the extended Mills family will use the name again.
Ditto Mr & Mrs Nightingale who thought they were original when they called their second daughter Florence. The first daughter's name, Parthenope, didn't catch on though. Nothing is new in the world -- Brooklyn Beckham was called that because he was conceived there, likewise Florence (Italy) and Parthenope ( Greece)
Now you really have to be OTT if you don't want people to copy. I met an elderly man ( long since dead) whose middle name was Mt Cook because he was born up in the Southern Alps within sight of the mountain. Never met anyone else of that name. Maybe your DD2 could be Piccadilly Circus? Euston Station is a nice manly name.

BrieAndChilli · 09/09/2017 21:29

Amy Farrah Fowler is another example of the mane being known

WhoreOfBabyliss · 09/09/2017 21:30

Insomniac Grin Splinge - Arff!

Popchyk · 09/09/2017 21:30

Was it inspired by Mo Farah?

And you just decided to tweak the spelling as some folks are wont to do these days?

Bloody bad luck to stumble on an actual recognised first name if so.

hairymaryquitecontrary · 09/09/2017 21:30

ah come on, it can't be Farrah?!

verystressedmum · 09/09/2017 21:31

Farrah is lovely but you didn't make it up!
I think it's popular in America maybe not much here in the UK but it's a name already.

doctorcuntybollocks · 09/09/2017 21:31

Django

carjacker1985 · 09/09/2017 21:31

I can only assume you had another child at the exact same time because there is no way you could think you made up the name Farrah??!

TheBigPickle · 09/09/2017 21:31

Farrah as in Farah Abraham - Back Door Teen Mom?

Awesome Grin

BikeRunSki · 09/09/2017 21:32

Farrah. Yes, completely unique, made up original name except for:

  • The exceedingly glam and famous actress and celeb of the 1970s/80s, Farrah Fawcett Majors.
  • The several Farrahs I went to school with in the 1970s/80s.
  • The casual wear brand of this time too.
  • Quite well used Muslim name too.
SophieofShepherdsBush · 09/09/2017 21:32

It's like marrowfat
Or fava
Django

SumAndSubstance · 09/09/2017 21:32

What we learned from the Balonz thread is that some people hear one person having a name and assume therefore that it's a common and traditional name. Perhaps that's what this lady did with your child's name.

gamerchick · 09/09/2017 21:32

Farrah reminds me of peas and I have no idea why!

It always has, can anyone help shed any light?

Marrowfat ?

DonkeyOaty · 09/09/2017 21:33

ButchyRestingFace · 09/09/2017 21:33

DorisDangleberry · 09/09/2017 21:34

My eldest is called Farrah Ball. Imagine my disgust when I saw it on the side of a paint tin in B&Q

My youngest is called Drew Lux. I'm never going to a diy shop with him.

I bet it's beetlejuice. That's why she's annoyed! You can't say it 3 times and it's already been used twice!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 09/09/2017 21:35

You know what is a great made up word - Covfefe. Covfefe-Mae.

Daffodils07 · 09/09/2017 21:35

3 of my children have names that are slighty unique.
I have had one person who have used one of the names but it has never bothered me.
And farrah is not common but not unheard of.

Marigold101 · 09/09/2017 21:35

Django?

AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name
charlyn · 09/09/2017 21:35
