AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name

MmmmDonuts · 09/09/2017 20:32

I wanted my baby to have a one of a kind unique name.
I made up a name that I love. It's definetly never been used before.
(I realise this sounds dodgy already)

Anyway, my baby is 7 months old and someone in my town has just given birth and used the name.
I actually feel really gutted about it.

I realise I am about to be flamed in the comments.
BUt how can I feel less gutted about this? Meh

I feel the same way every time I have to make a username on something and up pops 'sorry that username has already been taken, please choose another one' aaaggghh 😂🙈

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/09/2017 23:59

You're right Andrea Grin

I wonder if there are restrictions on what you can put on a birth certificate? I know you can't have numbers. There was a couple in the press that were blocked from calling their son "4Real" recently Hmm

There must be a limit to the amount of letters in a name allowed.

ShapelyBingoWing · 09/09/2017 23:59

OP isn't coming back now that she's been told her made up name isn't made up then? Grin

RebootYourEngine · 10/09/2017 03:14

Farrah??

Its a beautiful name but no way a unique made up name.

BUT the Clarissa in the smash hit 18th century novel 'Clarissa' does have a made up name. Subsequent Clarissa's are all named after that Clarissa.

marcopront · 10/09/2017 05:45

When people post on baby names threads asking for a unique name, I've asked what they would do if they found someone else with that. I've got my answer.

hollyisalovelyname · 10/09/2017 06:12

Butchy
Farrah Fawcett's real name was Mary

Justnowthisone · 10/09/2017 07:23

Ofcoursethishappendita

Gorgosparta · 10/09/2017 07:32

Farrah is definitely not original or something the Op made up.

No way can she think it is.

Ecureuil · 10/09/2017 07:42

I know a lovely 4 year old Farrah.
OP did you change the name you'd decided on after the Farrah thread? A quick google would show that Farrah was an actual, fairly well used name so I can't believe you could think it was original.

Oysterbabe · 10/09/2017 07:51

I guess she made up the unique thing so the thread was less outing? Maybe she just meant fairly unusual name.

insancerre · 10/09/2017 07:51

Bit disappointing
I was holding out for Spike
I met a baby Spike the other week
I did think it sounded more like a name for a puppy than a baby, or a grown up adult

MB134 · 10/09/2017 07:59

@PelvicFloorClenchReminder Did you just make a Buffy reference?Shock

LittleBooInABox · 10/09/2017 08:00

YABU on two counts.

  1. You dont own the name. Anyone can use it.
  1. You won't tell us the name.
thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/09/2017 08:02

We call our son Baby Short Legs. You can use that if you like? I imagine he'll grow out of it.

Is anyone else more intrigued to know the two syllable name that people didn't realise was a name?

Gorgosparta · 10/09/2017 08:06

I guess she made up the unique thing so the thread was less outing? Maybe she just meant fairly unusual name.

So its a pointless thread. No one woumd be surprised that another child in a town has the same, fairly well known name.

MotherOfDragons22 · 10/09/2017 08:11

What a cruel bunch of people you lot can be. Shameful.

Boulshired · 10/09/2017 08:15

Working in recruitment I have seen strange spellings, double barrelled or just joined up names and old fashioned (now fashionable again) names. Many wish to be known by by a variation of a shortened version, a middle name or a completely different name. I once worked with a Clara but only HR knew her birth certificate name was Clarissa. Another friend was Suzzetter because her mum wanted a variation of Suzette she was known as Sue which her mum hates.

hollyisalovelyname · 10/09/2017 09:00

MrsJoyOdell · 10/09/2017 09:18

People who like bikes Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 10/09/2017 09:23

YABU, OP. Farrah is not an unusual name.

x2boys · 10/09/2017 09:53

Well it's more unusual then all the rubys Lilly's and Lexie_Maes but yeah it's not unique .
