College and Pubic Hair

My DSister (16) has just started a beauty therapy course in college.

Yesterday she was told by a tutor that everyone is to grow their pubic hair (vagina) so they can practice waxing on each other and develop and understanding of how clients feel.

My DS and most of the other girls are horrified by this and don't want to do it. AIBU to be horrified at this demand? Surely the college can't enforce this on the girls?!

No-one would be forced to have their pubic hair waxed. They might be told they have to and that they're being unfair on their classmates to expect to train on them but not let them do it in return but they will not be forced to have it done. Don't be ridiculous.

I had to do this but it was a long, lonnng time ago and in France. I'm sure she can't be forced if she's dead set against it though.

How would it look, though? What would the flat bit be to balance - it would have to be legs akimbo in some way so would they have some kind of flattened bit to the bum area?

so how else does she think she's going to get the experience/practice required?
Considering the type of job she wants to do - some personal experience would teach her that which can't be taught from books.

she's not experienced enough yet to do it on a member of the public - insurance reasons aside.

If your dc isn't mature enough to understand how it works,
perhaps she would be better off concentrating on nails and make-up instead?

Can you ring the college and check this as it could all be rumours.
I've been waxed at our local college (legs). NO way would I have a intimate wax done. It took 3 hours for two girls to wax my legs they were sooooo slow and this was level two students.

Imagine the pain for the fanny!!! Ouchy!! Sod that. I'd want an experienced stranger waxer. In and out. Job done.

I always thought you learnt that sort of thing on the job in an actual salon with an experienced waxer. Just doing basics in college.

I'd ring them.

Level 2 is the first practical level of beauty therapy. They are just learning waxing and nowhere nearby professional level. That's why the treatments are so cheap- to give people an incentive to come.

Would you pay full price in a commercial salon for a 3 hour leg wax by people who were just learning it? Think about what you're saying!

I was talking about intimate waxing being a different leaves or learnt in salon not legs or even a normal bikini wax.

Most of the last 2/3 months of your course involves roping in as many friends and family as possible to do your various assessments on. One of my aunties was in every flaming week getting new eyebrows or toenails Grin

It's part of the course. They practise all treatments on each other (I am a beauty therapist) if she doesn't want waxed that's fine. But I would expect her to bring her own model and not practise in one of the other students if she is not willing to be waxed herself. How else are they supposed to learn?

I used to work in a salon and they'd practice hollywood waxing on me (shameless cheapskate) and I'd wear a paper like thong thing to cover my actual vagina, and just pull it to the side so all areas could be waxed...

They need to practice on each other, I'm sure she can go a week or two without 'pruning' her bits and bobs. Let's hope when they ask her to grow leg hair they do it in winter. They have to practice on each other before they can ge let loose on the public.
