College and Pubic Hair

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 17:09

My DSister (16) has just started a beauty therapy course in college.

Yesterday she was told by a tutor that everyone is to grow their pubic hair (vagina) so they can practice waxing on each other and develop and understanding of how clients feel.

My DS and most of the other girls are horrified by this and don't want to do it. AIBU to be horrified at this demand? Surely the college can't enforce this on the girls?!

Thank God it's not a sex education course !

Bananalanacake · 08/09/2017 17:23

But how does the college know they don't have public hair already , l meant to write public as that is my favourite mistake.Grin

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 17:24

Oh do fuck off obviously I don't mean actual vagina, it's what we call our fannies, pathetic banshee's.

No they wouldn't be wearing pants it's a Hollywood wax not just their bikini line.

In my case it was just bikini wax... we all wore knickers

Was 20 odd years ago and I think the whole thing was far less common to have waxed then so bikini was normal

Walkingdead11 · 08/09/2017 17:26

Note to some women ........there is NOTHING wrong with pubic hair.......ffs!!

toiletanger · 08/09/2017 17:26

Is it a general beauty qualification or a specific "Hollywood/other types of intimate waxing" course?

CoughLaughFart · 08/09/2017 17:26

Are there any men on the course? Will they have to have their pubic hair (penis) waxed?

Maudlinmaud · 08/09/2017 17:26

And now the insults. Nice.

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 17:27

Sounds like your DSis is not cut out to be a beauty therapist. This is standard for these courses. How else would they learn?
Could she transfer to health and Social?

Steeley113 · 08/09/2017 17:27

Pretty sure Hollywood waxes are an extended course. Regardless, I wouldn't trust someone to wax me if they hadn't had it done themselves!

Maybe beauty therapy isn't for her if she has such weird feelings about bodies?

Creambun2 · 08/09/2017 17:29

Assuming this isn't some poor attempt at a wind up, how do you think they will practice? Colleges usually have paying customers seeing students but only when they are starting to be competent. Waxing is a skill like any other.

Also are the students horrified they have to do this procedure - if so why the fuck are they on this course, or they are horrified at having to let their pubic hair grow?

2014newme · 08/09/2017 17:29

Who does the tutor demonstrate on?

Manclife · 08/09/2017 17:30

who should they practice on?

Allthebestnamesareused · 08/09/2017 17:30

So when we all venture into a beauty salon we are all just waxed by our best mates? No I think you'll find it is a stranger who works in the salon that does it not my friend!

How will your sister make a living if she can only work on people she knows?

First, you're complaining that she needs to grow her public hair and now you're saying what if she doesn't want to be waxed? Which is it? It can't be both!

I

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 17:30

Just because a girl doesn't want to have her own fanny waxed doesn't mean she isn't cut out to be a beauty therapist at all. How ridiculous!
Clearly we need to stike off all our surgeons because I doubt a lot of them have ever had surgery themselves

A 16yo on a beauty therapy course doing Hollywood waxing?

What course is she actually doing? (name/level), as it's certainly not done on the first year of most beauty training.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/09/2017 17:31

do you only get bikini waxes from people you know well then OP

I do because my best mate owns a salon but generally I think most people have waxing done by people they barely know

did she not realise waxing was part of the course?

Anasnake · 08/09/2017 17:31

How else would they learn how to do Hollywoods and Brazilians unless they practice ????Hmm

Nuttynoo · 08/09/2017 17:32

16yos won't be hollywood waxing, stop lying.

Creambun2 · 08/09/2017 17:32

Whats with the faux "anger" too?

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 17:32

DS doesn't have a problem growing her hair, it's the getting a wax when she doesn't want one. She has no problem working with strangers and waxing them, but she doesn't want it done on herself. I think that's fair enough

Tbh I wouldn't want to go to a beauty therapist for an intimate wax and find out that they didn't cover this in their college course.

I once went to a piercer for jewelry and overheard someone enquiring about a nipple piercing, the piercer said "oh I've not done a nipple piercing before", and she was apparently qualified to do this! I would never have a piercing done if they hadn't already done it before unless they're an apprentice under supervision by an experienced piercer. I expect the same from any beauty therapist.

As for them having only just met, likelihood is they'll only just be meeting clients before waxing them too.

Gorgosparta · 08/09/2017 17:33

She won't have just met them when they do this.

I thought it was an expectation that you practice on eachother. Did this not occur to her?

If she isnt happy, fair enough. But she will have only just met anyone they bring in to wax.

She will know her the other people on the course far better than a random.
