Which pieces of music do you find really moving?

Was just thinking about this, and would be interested to hear what you all think.

There are loads of pieces that I find hugely moving. I was thinking back to when I watched Dunkirk at the cinema, and I found the version of Nimrod played on the soundtrack really moving. I (and most of the audience, I think) were crying a little bit by that point. I also absolutely love I vow to thee my country, although I know people think it's a bit controversial. I think it's probably my favourite hymn.

The Cars - drive from live aid, it makes me feel sick inside remembering the images. I have to turn it off if it comes on whilst driving as I just cannot concentrate.

Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves. Was one of my Dad's favourites and was played at his funeral.

The Living Years by Mike & the Mechanics.

Charlieandlola · 05/09/2017 01:48

Abide with me
Nimrod
Beethoven 9th
Nelson Mass
Zadok the priest
When we were young- Adele

Firefly112 · 05/09/2017 02:08

Hans Zimmer - Time
Craig Armstrong - Love Theme Suite (from love actually)

Wires, by Athlete. A song the lead singer wrote about his premature daughter (she's alright). I had a traumatic birth with my DD and on the very rare occasions this song comes on the radio I weep my head off.

fightingirish · 05/09/2017 03:18

The music to riverdance, gives me goosebumps

Dunkling · 05/09/2017 05:38

Adagio For Strings!

AliTheMinx · 05/09/2017 05:48

In The Arms Of The Angel - played at my friend's funeral
Kissing You - Des'ree - just beautiful and on our wedding DVD (gets me every time)
Tears in Heaven (Eric Clapton), Small Bump (Ed Sheeran) and Fields of Gold (Eva Cassidy) - songs I listened to when grieving the loss of my first two pregnancies
Goodnight Saigon - Billy Joel
Let It Be - The Beatles
Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid
Candle In The Wind - Elton John
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Middler (I sang it at my friend's wedding - she was marrying a fireman and everyone broke down in the 'Did you ever know that you're my hero' line - I almost cracked!)
Nothing Compares To You - Sinead O'Connor
All Out of Love - Air Supply
You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban
Nobody Knows - The Tony Rich Project
November Rain - Guns n' Roses

Absolutely agree with a PP about the Schindler's List soundtrack - so very powerful

I love rousing hymns and actually find them quite comforting but very moving. I also love the Welsh National Anthem and 'Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer' - especially when sung loudly by a Welsh Male Voice Choir! Abide With Me is also very moving.

When I was little I also used to get upset when 'Molly Malone' died in the traditional Irish song!

Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros
Amazing Grace on the bagpipes
Sweet Disposition - The Temper Trap.

Sorry if those are cliché - they all have a personal meaning Smile

Notreallyarsed · 05/09/2017 06:03

Amazing Grace and Highland Cathedral done by military pipes and drums.

You'll Never Walk Alone - randomly it was on when I found out my mum was terminally ill and I can't bear it now.

Grace - by the Wolftones, it's the story of a man due to be executed for his part in the Easter Rising explaining to his wife.

Longdistance · 05/09/2017 06:06

Going home by the make voice choir. Been to a few funerals where this has played, and have ended up in tears.

Abide with me, another funeral song that gets a lump in my throat.

I used to love the theme tune to Twin Peaks.

DubaiismyBlackpool · 05/09/2017 06:26

Abide with me it's eventide
Adagio for Strings
The theme from Morse - Barrington Pheloung
Amnesia - 5 Seconds of summer
Fragile - Sting
Photograph - Ed Sheehan ( came out during DD2s (she's my last child) last year of school and I realised this phase was ending. I saw the video and howled)
Bloodstream - Ed Sheeran again, it takes me back to fighting for my life after a ruptured appendix. I blew so many veins getting all the drugs. The song wasn't out then, but when I heard the song it took me straight back to the room.
Viva Forever - spice girls. DD1 and her mates used to listen to this all the time. One of her friends died suddenly a few months later, she was 10 😥
I vow to thee my country. I'm an expat, I play it very loud with the windows down when it comes on. The locals probably think I'm a nutter.

I find Pavarotti in his prime singing "Nessun Dorma" very moving.

The South African national anthem when sung in beautiful harmonies

tigerdog · 05/09/2017 07:44

Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
Into my Arms by Nick Cave

Both guaranteed to bring on the tears in a matter of seconds. I'm going to see Nick Cave with some work colleagues this month and I'm sure I'll embarrass myself by crying!
