Shockingly, I read somewhere that Boris Johnson was one of the first western political figures to say anything about the genocide.

I am somewhat comforted to hear Johnson is doing something useful. The lack of international action on this is dismal. I heard on the radio that former Nobel peace prize winners had been speaking out, 3 so far although Desmond Tutu is the only name I can remember.

PerkingFaintly · 12/09/2017 07:59

Indeed, Pain. Desmond Tutu weighed in a few days ago, too, as a fellow Peace Prize laureate to Suu Kyi.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2017 08:20

It's too depressing at the moment. You know those days where you feel like you might have temporarily run out of fight? That's today.

badbadhusky · 12/09/2017 08:30

I know how you feel, OYBBK. However, persist we must. Just keeping our hand in/better informed will help us know what to do when the rallying call for action comes. In the meantime, Brew Cake Gin

PerkingFaintly · 12/09/2017 08:32

OYBBK Flowers I know what you mean.

You deserve a rest after all that sterling work keeping people informed on the hurricanes.

I don't think anyone's depending on MN for essential practical planning though - more emotional support - so take a break and practise a bit of self-care?

Apologies if this has already been posted/referenced:

www.cnbc.com/2017/09/11/steve-bannon-firing-james-comey-was-the-biggest-mistake-in-modern-political-history.html

Bannon is making some odd moves at the minute. Supportive of Trump, yet also combative. His Breitbart buddies also don't quite know what to make of him - IMO they'd follow him before Trump though, so if Bannon is placing himself for some kind of right-wing political leadership role, he has a good number of supporters all ready to go. I don't want to say coup - that sounds impossible - but so did Trump winning office, and who got him there? Bannon.

Just like they say on the planes, you have to put your own oxygen mask on first if you're to be of any use to yourself, let alone anyone else!

Claws

Bannon?

I don't think so. Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2017 09:59

Thank you for the emergency kit :) I do a lot for the cause in real life in very practical active ways. I'm someone who has to take real action when I see the need, I'm having to take a break from it for sanities sake. I find that very hard. But its got the point where I don't have a choice.

The positive side is that I have more time for my weather forecasting at present (beware the gales tonight!)

Yes to self-care in whatever form it takes Gin Brew Flowers Cake.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2017 10:01

Do you think Bannon has some sort of multiple personality disorder?

cozietoesie · 12/09/2017 10:02

You'll be fine, OYBBK. You're just having an (almost inevitable) low spot. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2017 10:02

Grin Lionheart I'll take all 4!

unreal. now a 'tribute video' that's entirely shots of Trump.

no first responders, no memorial, nothing.

cozietoesie · 12/09/2017 10:02

I think Bannon probably has too much iced tea. Grin

Mittens1969 · 12/09/2017 10:04

I'm trying not to think about it, but I was always concerned that Trump wasn't stable enough to be trusted with access to nuclear weapons. Let's hope his advisers stop him if starts to become 'trigger happy'. He was very quick to bomb Syria a few months ago.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2017 10:06

TheClaws · 12/09/2017 10:33

Iced tea, Cozie, yes, that's it! Perhaps a little too many mint juleps. Grin

Oh god, just seen there's about to be a Daily Mail TV (as far as I can make out, just in America). Just the thing that's needed to calm things down.

OK chaps! Here's something to show that there's resistance in all sorts of places...

lionheart · 12/09/2017 16:28

I am certainly mixed up--have just been misposting Trumpery on the weather thread. Grin

Still, storm's a coming whichever way you look at it.

Ted Cruz thinks people don't have a right to "stimulate their genitals." I was his college roommate. This would be a new belief of his.
