Continued from original post...

OP posts:

The difference in reactions from those two was really interesting and very telling of their personaliy. SV came across as one of those popular girls you simply mustn't criticise, Pukka on the other hand, I'd go down the pub with her.

Mrsknackered · 03/09/2017 07:10

Finally watched Susie's story. She's even more grim than I first thought. I'm hoping the rest of the sisterhood don't actually like her and just support her for sisterhood reasons

Boredboredboredboredbored · 03/09/2017 07:17

I actually thought we were quite tame on the other thread in comparison to some of the nastiness spouted all over the site at times. From what I read most of the posters who mentioned Susie whatshername were in support of her and liked her.

I had never heard of her before.....Maybe she was sticking up for all the other 'modern day Mamas' out there.

FuckingLoveCarbs · 03/09/2017 07:21

That's how I feel about SV. Reminds me of mean girls at school who can dish it out but not take it back.

It was ridiculous considering most people were actually nice about her on the other thread!!

Boredboredboredboredbored · 03/09/2017 07:23

When I first joined IG about 5 years ago MOD was the midwifeyhooper and had a really interesting valid account. Guiding and advising other women through pregnancy and parenthood, loved the gas and air blog. Also became a Mum quite young and trained as a Midwife. Sadly she seems to have sold out big time on what she initially stood for and that is why she has been mentioned so much on here. The constant ads make me cringe and I had to stop following many months ago.

I do wonder how her older children feel about it, do they get the piss taken out of them at school etc? They have become products of their parents advertising and are unable to make an informed choice given their age which I feel is exploitation. Its not just pretty pictures of gorgeous children, its purposefully using them as a brand and there feels something very wrong in that.

underthebridget · 03/09/2017 07:34

I've read the whole thread as I have followed most of the Uk Instagram mum gang (for want of a better description - Hi Anna!) and several youtubers for a couple of years but recently felt a bit disillusioned with it all.

I seriously think media managing companies like Gleam et al could do with using a few of us for marketing research as most of are the target consumer and have at one time enjoyed these accounts until recently.

From my experience and reading responses here, people would like to see:

  • transparency in paid advertisements (we understand that people need to live and produce content) but ones that the "influencer" actually likes and believes is a good product. However, not for it to be so jarringly delivered or so frequent that it detracts from the non advertising content. That's a fine line to tread and I don't know what I necessarily expect that to look like but the bigger this becomes, the more the it needs to be researched as its a huge revenue for many companies. But seeing people on stories repeatedly asking for recommendations of products from followers and @ing the companies concerned in hope of a free bag/appliance/service is just comes across grabby and irritating.
  • paid content changes the relationship between the viewer and "influencer". It has to. We're helping to pay their mortgage and get them new washing machines and lapping up their content so people will feel invested and like they are accountable even if emotionally they aren't. They are now providing a service, not just uploading a photo of a family BBQ.
  • the use of children. This is a whole other discussion to be had and has been going on for years already. It would need its own thread.

I really enjoy Susie Verrill on Instagram, I hope she is still reading the thread and able to grasp that this isn't jealous bashing.

Not sure my ramble makes much sense Confused
I should have had breakfast first. #quakersoats #ad #spon

I'm so pleased we have another thread!!!

Like I said on the previous thread, I quite like MOD, have a bit of a soft spot for her. I do wish she'd do more of her midwifery though she can't update do something really great with her popularity.

I do like motherpukka though and I love that she came on the thread......wonder who else will pop up now waits with excited anticipation

DressedInBinBags · 03/09/2017 07:58

I think this thread has been spoiled a bit by susie and mother pukka coming on. It's already turning into people fawning over them!

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 03/09/2017 07:59

BubbleDrag queens I follow are RuPaulofficial, Sharon needles, Alaska, Jujubee, Jessica Wild, Tyra Sanchez, Latrice Royale. There's loads but they are some of my favourites.
Instagram has some great content. Saw Suzie's story Shock. She cares way more than she should about a thread she hasn't read. Shame as I like her instagram posts. If you put yourself out there on the internet there will be people who have an opinion about you that perhaps you don't agree with. Ignore and move on with your life!
I started following Esther Coren off the back of this thread and there's been some positive recommendations. It's not all negative at all!

Squelchsquerch · 03/09/2017 07:59

Has anyone been following the family who had a baby just a few days ago and the wife accidentally revealed the gender of the baby in a Facebook page but then removed it? Now anyone congratulating her on her baby boy is being blocked. Allegedly this is so they can cash in on doing a big gender reveal video.

Mothervulva · 03/09/2017 08:02

I also follow Sharon Needles, Jinx Monsoon, Alaska Thunderfuck, Jujubee, Pearl, Bob the Drag Queen and Ginger Minj (drag queens).

Fairylea · 03/09/2017 08:02

I do think it must be really difficult to maintain an account with that many followers. I have an account with a very small amount (mine isn't really a mumblog, it's more about photography etc) and I look back at what I've posted sometimes and everything looks very same-y! I see the lengthy posts that someone like FoD does and wonder how they don't get bored of it? Trying to sound SO interesting all the time is incredibly stressful! I wonder what future generations will think of all this over sharing.

annawoolfworries · 03/09/2017 08:04

The arrogance of some posters here. Saying you hope they reflect on the feedback or start taking pictures of cummunity projects. HmmPretending you're so worried about their kids, about the fact they don't declare their ads to the ASA. This thread drips with bitterness. I stopped following MOD and have always founds FOD not to my taste. But the over invested trashing? Just unfollow.

FuckingLoveCarbs · 03/09/2017 08:06

Funny how any criticism is seen as either bitterness or jealousy.

TabbyCatPaws · 03/09/2017 08:10

Don't believe all anything written and shown by instamums. I had a neighbour who was one, lived in a lovely rented house, perfect relationship and kids apparently. Always posting artistic and 'perfect pictures to instagram and writing on Twitter and her blog.

Reality was that she was surviving on benefits, barely scraping by, had blazing rows with her partner, the house and garden were a filthy mess (the artsy photos were taken at clever angles it seems). They had visits from debt collectors and were pretty unpleasant people themselves, very unkind to some other neighbours who were elderly.

NaughtyNannyPlum · 03/09/2017 08:12

Squelch yes I do and am so surprised at how they have done this. I used to LOVE their weekly YouTube videos (I think he is a genuine talent in that area) but I have stopped watching recently (since the big move actually)

langkaw · 03/09/2017 08:14

Carbs: we need to play 'just unfollow' bingo. Or turn it into a drinking game.

PidgeonSpray · 03/09/2017 08:17

Who is Susie????

juneybean · 03/09/2017 08:17

But it's all fake isn't it. It's just about being able to write fiction. I occasionally read one as it's an old acquaintance and everything they write is a work of fiction accompanied by good pictures. I feel sorry for the kids.

FuckingLoveCarbs · 03/09/2017 08:24

Susie J Verrill pidg. Greg Rutherford's other half.

TheLegendOfBeans · 03/09/2017 08:27

Think @underthebridget nails it. This is the type of market research this specific InstaDemographic ought to be lapping up.

Mainly because the criticisms are almost all the same. That's a thing message right there pops middle finger up at screen

PidgeonSpray · 03/09/2017 08:28

Thanks Carbs. I just found her. Errrghhhh!!!

Badmotherpukka · 03/09/2017 08:40

My only reason for posting here is because it's odd to be discussed publicly without popping in. I've opened it up to Instagram and know not everyone following me loves what I do so should get some useful thoughts/opinion/discussion. I don't think support should be dismissed as 'fawning'.

langkaw · 03/09/2017 08:42

So. Mother pukka has just posted asking for opinions on ads etc. The responses are a series of ' I love you! You're amazing!!' Just loads of fawning and sisters sticking together. Who are these people that question nothing??
