Continued from original post...

OP posts:
allaboardtheallergybus · 28/09/2017 13:48

I saw that too as I follow FAEN - unbelievable that someone even said that but sadly that's what happens when a thread like this takes off and people start 'mud throwing' abuse via the safety of their keyboards and user names. I'm surprised the comment didn't get taken down

WipsGlitter · 28/09/2017 14:00

I agree - while it might start off as a real person telling and sharing their life it pretty soon becomes a business and the catch 22 is you are then using your personal life to generate an income and where do the boundaries Iie??

Hashtag1890 · 28/09/2017 14:24

How come some are putting 'paid partnership with' in the tagline/geotag and others aren't. I think it is much better done this way, so you don't have to go rummaging around the hashtags to see if it's an #ad or not.

MissHenty · 28/09/2017 14:33

Yes I'd also like more clearly signalled "paid promotion with" labels.

Feel very sad for FTEN. Must have been horribly upsetting reading that. Although wasn't CH also described as "not really an instamum" (despite her 4 kids), because her feed is focused on beauty products/skin creams? And looking at FTEN, her feed is focused on interiors? Both women are mums, but neither a classic "instamum"? Perhaps that's what the original poster was getting at (albeit badly phrased).

MissHenty · 28/09/2017 14:39

Will certainly think about my phrasing in future. I hope FTEN is ok. The original poster of that comment probably feels awful too.

On another note if anyone gets a response from Advertising Standards about the misleading adverts, please do let us know x

Buildothersup · 28/09/2017 14:51

It's fine to discuss #ad or whatever but there has been far too many personal comments made about these women, who are esssentially seizing opportunities to have some fun whilst providing for their families, it won't last forever and clearly, there is no official rule book. Not sure why the debate had to go so negative.

CheesedUff · 28/09/2017 16:54

I don't know why some of them are even sponsored.

Like why would an overweight mum who sighs all the time make me want to copy her lifestyle choices.

On the other hand, some of them sell things really well and fit the brand.

Buildothersup · 28/09/2017 17:04

See post above re unnecessary comments...

CheesedUff · 28/09/2017 17:27

It's not unnecessary though.

If you were a company, usually you'd pick someone to fit the brand, however now they've got greedy and just choose on how many followers they have.

Because I have never seen some of these types that are being sponsored on IG in a Joules catalogue for example.

Leeeleeee · 30/09/2017 06:03

CheesedUff 'overweight Mum who sighs all the time' is, IMO, unnecessary.

allaboardtheallergybus · 30/09/2017 21:58

I agree, mentioning someone's weight is just unkind. And if seeing real women and mothers what ever their shape and size represented on social media advertising brands, boosts someone's confidence and encourages them to buy from that brand - surely that's a great thing?

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 30/09/2017 22:09

The issue I have with MOD is that she talks about being a midwife like she's some kind of midwifery expert (she has written a book after all) but she doesn't actually seem to work? It is definitely not normal for an NHS employee to go on 5 holidays in 6 months or whatever she must be on now!

Most NHS staff I know are struggling to make ends meet, feeling completely frazzled and overwhelmed, and continuously feeling guilty about the time they are missing with their children.

I only have a slight tinge of the green-eyed monster, I swear! Envy

CheesedUff · 30/09/2017 22:27

Ahh well. Each to their own

Leeeleeee · 30/09/2017 22:33

didntcomeheretofuckspiders - she often talks about working 12 hour shifts. She works. I don't think she tries to be an expert in midwifery either.

allaboardtheallergybus · 30/09/2017 22:46

She definitely does work, she delivered my friends baby last month! I think she works 2 12 hour shifts a week.

Also my sister is a part time nurse and in the NHS they get quite a good amount of annual leave a year, much better than I got in the corporate world many years ago.

And I don't think she pretends to be an expert just a midwife who got a book deal from a great blog she wrote for 6 years and worked full time then. She has 4 children and many other projects on the go I have slot of respect for her to still continue working as a midwife for the NHS.

MissHenty · 30/09/2017 23:13

She seems to work Mondays.

The only thing I take issue with with MOD is the misleading disingenuous advertising (that has been discussed at length on this thread and the previous one).

allaboardtheallergybus · 30/09/2017 23:41

Yup that seems to be the general thread about a lot of the instamums. I can't believe this thread is still going though, little digs here and there all completely off topic. I think people need to obsess about something else now

KitKat1002 · 03/10/2017 18:38

allaboardtheallergybus, that's the most rational comment I've read in all 80 pages of this thread.

MissHenty · 04/10/2017 21:20

Yes seems like this thread has reached a general consensus and run its course.

Although most of the posters on the thread didn't seem 'obsessed' to me (with a few exceptions). Just frustrated and let down by disingenuous holiday/washing-machine posts etc and a escalating lack of transparency of advertising on instagram.

Buildothersup · 05/10/2017 15:30

It’s ended up being a bitchy, ‘let’s bash MOD & FOD et all for not getting everything right all the time so we demand they change...’ - why Mumsnet has such a negative reputation I guess, the judgement placed on, essentially, other parents is astounding. Whatever the originally message was got very quickly lost I’m afraid...

allaboardtheallergybus · 05/10/2017 18:13

I think that's an interesting point about people not getting this right, it's a grey area which I honestly don't believe people like MOD/FOD are trying to deceive their followers maybe they had an agreement with a pr company who were asked not to #ad or disclose? Maybe there's a contract they're signed into? Maybe you should be focussing your attack on the pr who sent them on a family holiday? Or maybe it's over now and we've all moved on?

Buildothersup · 05/10/2017 18:55

Allaboardtheallergybus Hear, hear!

WipsGlitter · 05/10/2017 19:43

I certainly think there was a degree of naïveté involved. Where they got very caught up in the excitement of getting a lot of free stuff and didn't really think it all through.

allaboardtheallergybus · 05/10/2017 20:42

Maybe that is true too but I kind of think we should be giving these guys a break. Influencers are a really new concept and I guess we are all learning together and at times gettting it wrong too. I don't think they've hurt anyone and from what I can see they are normal parents who happened to have gained a lot of followers in a relatively short amount of time. I like to think this thread can end on a peaceful note Smile

Delatron · 05/10/2017 21:00

I was thinking about this thread today. I love Instagram, it has helped build my business and won me new clients. I started thinking about friends, a fashion designer who was struggling until the 'mummy fashion bloggers' started wearing her outfits and tagging them. She's just opened her first shop. Friends who work in health and nutrition who have also seen their businesses grow. What we all have in common is that we are women, who have career changed and are trying to build a new career (mainly around family) and social media is really helping.
Yes, some people are losing their way a bit, but if they are not referencing the free stuff then unfollow. Annoying people, unfollow.

I love Instagram!
