Just down to choosing fabric softener, it's a joyous experience! Putting the smelly stuff in, getting the clean stuff out. It's just wonderful.

I too love washing. Most satisfying. There's something almost primeval about it. I also tend to panic if my neighbour has a full line out and I don't...like I'm missing a trick, some golden opportunity which leads me to rush around stripping beds like a mad woman.
Never use fabric conditioner though.

Lemon powder with Marseilles soap? Ooh! We live in Germany near the French border and every now and then we go over to the French supermarkets to pretend we're in a Tesco extra, but with better bread. I will definitely take a look next time we are over.

I have no shame in saying I was raised by a woman who was raised by a woman, etc., who was am excellent homemaker. I know my way around (except for the oven, cannot clean that sob), it doesn't take long, and having a clean home brings me some actual joy. So I love laundry, the line, the airing cupboard and ironing. I work full time in a profession I trained 8 years to do and I still keep nice home. I see it as a hobby.
It's comfy, cozy and welcoming (according to guests) and I pay attention to things like strong scents that might put others off. The reason I don't iron my cotton table napkins is because I don't want guests to be put off. I "hand press" them while damp. Strongly scented napkins would be off putting at the table. But a wonderfully laundered smell in a jumper or pyjamas? Heaven!

Blue lenor always. Love washing, hanging out, ironing. Pleasurable and worthwhile Grin

Well... I don't enjoy it as such, but it is relatively satisfying, more so than most housework. It is becoming more satisfying now that I have the equipment to do it more easily: decent reliable washing machine and a good long washing line which catches the sun and wind. When getting washing clean and dry is a big struggle, it's just frustrating.

I will say this: I almost never put clothes in without feeling deeply grateful for automatic washing machines. I never take them for granted. Washing is SO easy for me compared with my ancestors. I'm sure I could never enjoy scrubbing a mountain of dirty clothes every week!!!

Wonderful thread, OP!

I love doing laundry, and use Surf tropical lily and Morrison's Summer Burst fabric conditioner. I have a laundry room! It's separate to the utility room and it's fab!

I switched from a rotary drier to a traditional washing line. I can't believe how much pleasure I get seeing it full of clean washing, it's so satisfying Grin.

All my pegs are identical. I bought four packs of the same colour and 'redistributed' the unmatchy ones.

I love all housework though. And I love to waft from room to room, admiring the tidiness.

I should get out more Smile.

Do people really not iron? What about blouses? Shirts? Kids school uniform Really??????

I hardly ever iron. Only if something comes out especially creased and I need it for a (rare) smart event. I never ever iron school uniform. I fold it straight from the tumble dryer (or from the line on the three days a year that it's not raining in Cumbria Grin). Dh has non-iron shirts but he'll iron one sometimes.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 03/09/2017 11:32

@toomuchtooold exactly! I love the laundry aisles in the Geant Casino and LeClerc.

Such a nice change from the ordered functional banality of Marktkauf and Rewe.

I buy in bulk for a few months. You can buy the big blocks of Marseille soap for flaking and washing with too.

And don't get me started on the Petit Marsellaise shower gels and soaps.

Cailleach666 · 03/09/2017 11:38

I don't iron.

Shirts get dried outside then straight on hangers.

I don't buy stuff that gets creased like silk or linen.

liz70 · 03/09/2017 11:58

I think I must have somehow timeslipped back into Stepford circa 1954… Confused

says the woman who insists on pairing up pegs on garments when hanging out

toomuchtooold · 03/09/2017 12:03

lemon our Rewe has just been done up! I was very excited for about 2 minutes till I realised the product range is almost exactly the same as before Sad We're getting a new Edeka too... at least they have hoummous...

WafflyVersatile1 · 03/09/2017 12:04

Frenchclick.co.uk looks promising

Eolian · 03/09/2017 12:06

I actually envy those of you who love laundry and housework though. If you're going to have to spend regular hours of the rest of your life doing something, it's better to enjoy it! I try to embrace the love of housework for that reason, I just don't seem to be able to fool myself into enjoying it!

treaclesoda · 03/09/2017 12:06

I love washing as well. In fact, I love most housework.

Fortunately for me, my husband also loves washing and housework, so far from living in some 1950s hell where I do absolutely everything it's more a case of 'aw, he got to the washing machine first. Damn.'

WafflyVersatile1 · 04/09/2017 00:38

I've ordered the softener version of the detergent @Ineedmorelemonpledge DP's mum likes and also some Le Petit Marseillais shower gel and liquid soap.

SisyphusHadItEasy · 04/09/2017 02:31

I don't mind doing the washing at all, but all my neighbours have tumble driers and I prefer to put mine out on the line.

Scandalous!

I even had the gall to allow my linens to get darked on last night Shock

HappenedForAReisling · 04/09/2017 02:36

I like doing laundry.

I also like the detergent/fab conditioner/rubber/slightly musty smell of the machine after Blush

I fucking hate vacuuming and mopping though.

Brittbugs80 · 04/09/2017 09:23

I love it too. I noticed in Sainsburys that Method now have a laundry liquid and I'm trying to justify the cost. I love Method.

I use the Eco powder and fabric softeners and when I wash towels, bath mats, bedding, oven gloves, cushion covers, blankets and cleaning cloths, I swap the fabric softener for the Dettol wash.

And I love a line of washing! I hang it out during winter months if it's a sunny day too but our patio is under cover and treated as an extra room as we have settee and fire pit and blanket box there too!
