To think people get as much pleasure out of washing as I do?

Just down to choosing fabric softener, it's a joyous experience! Putting the smelly stuff in, getting the clean stuff out. It's just wonderful.

I look out the window at it too.

NormaSmuff · 02/09/2017 17:01

my dd is atrocious at putting washing on the line.

dh brings it in from the line and leaves it in the basket

WafflyVersatile1 · 02/09/2017 17:02

Yes hate putting it away

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 02/09/2017 17:02

My Dp doesnt peg he just drapes. I have to stop myself from punching him in the back of the neck when he drapes his work shit next to my pristine stuff.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/09/2017 17:02

No. I have more interesting things to do with my life. As, I imagine, has Bluntness.

IDoDaChaCha · 02/09/2017 17:03

I don't choose softener for the smell, I use baby friendly ones or DD comes out in a rash. Clean washing does smell nice and somehow comforting. But I prefer the feel of tumble dried clothes to line dried. I'm moving to a terraced house that's probably around 100 years old and I won't be drying any washing indoors as it causes damp to leech into the bricks. I'd rather pay for more electric than a damp proof course...

NormaSmuff · 02/09/2017 17:04

a veyr long time ago, i took a photo of my washing on the line, i was in such awe of it

DameDoom · 02/09/2017 17:05

Dancing you are one classy lady. My pegs stay on the line and are a bit manky and covered in spider eggs. I am going to treat myself to matching pegs. Do you have a lovely basket to transport washing from machine to the line? I just do multiple trips with sopping stuff chucked over my shoulder.
I should have bought these when I was in the Lakeland flagship store in Windermere but was so overwhelmed by fabulousness I only came away with clothes moth spray and cedar balls.

HeartStrings · 02/09/2017 17:08

OMG I've found my people!! I love it, picking out the softener is one of my favourite things to do.
The sad things that satisfy us adults
I thought I was crazy, obviously I'm not the only one lol

d270r0 · 02/09/2017 17:10

Please come and do all my washing for me. I have 2 loads every day because have day and night wetters in the house. Its not enjoyable, just one of those things that has to be done. Thank God for tumble driers.

ScarletForYa · 02/09/2017 17:13

I much prefer washing to cooking. I hate hanging out socks though, very time consuming. I die a little inside every time.

When I see DPs underpants I think: you again, wanting to be hung up, AGAIN .

Cailleach666 · 02/09/2017 17:16

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone

With you all the way.

I often use value powder. No softener, no smelly stuff. I live in in rural Scotland where water is soft, pollution is low and winds are high. I line dry even with snow underfoot.
I too have laundry love. Every day I turn a pile of smelly damp dirty clothes into fragrant things. I have been known to sniff things on the line.
No need for smelly petrochemical produced perfumed products. Nothing smells so good as laundry cleansed with fresh air.

blankface · 02/09/2017 17:18

Clean laundry (no artificial smells) and line-drying please me.
Family have eczema and asthma so no strong detergents and absolutely no added smells applies chez Blank.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/09/2017 17:21

I do love doing laundry. I especially love the hot months when I can hang it out to dry. There's something so lovely about the smell of things that have been line-dried. And the 'crispness' of them when you fold them.

But there's also much to be said for pulling pjs and robes out of the dryer, hot and fresh, and putting them on. Not to mention cozying up in warm blankets.

Bettercallsaul1 · 02/09/2017 17:22

I am amazed at these paeans of praise to laundry. Grin There is obviously something about the process I've missed! I will have to look into this further.

Bubwiser · 02/09/2017 17:22

Not at all unfortunately. I don't mind putting a load in the machine but DH is responsible for hanging the clothes out to dry, which I loathe. My passion is washing up.

Bettercallsaul1 · 02/09/2017 17:27

Are you laundry lovers not horribly aware of the dreaded ironing that must follow every indulgent wash? or do you not bother

Nanna50 · 02/09/2017 17:37

Although I love getting in between freshly laundered line dried sheets I find washing never ending monotonous from sorting, washing, drying, ironing (only if I have to) and putting it away. Does it ever end?

I like Bluntness though and would rather read her posts than do the washing.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/09/2017 17:40

Iron? What is this strange practice of which you speak?

Permapress all the way. If something is wrinkly off the line, throw it in the dryer for a bit with a slightly damp towel, then hang it right away. You may have to 'touch up' a collar or such, but that only takes a second.

OK, I will admit that I also enjoy ironing table linens. But they're all flat surfaces with no fiddly bits to them. And I only iron out the ones I'm using right before I set the table.

Crumblevision · 02/09/2017 17:48

I know I will likely be trolled for this but I don't mind ironing. Preferably listening to an audiobook or watching the crime channel. I even iron our bed linen.

Cailleach666 · 02/09/2017 17:48

Bettercallsaul1 "Ironing"

It's a process developed to keep women out of politics.

Bettercallsaul1 · 02/09/2017 17:49

Ah yes, AcrossthePond but you see I am a complete addict and must iron every single thing. I know I must wean myself off this time-wasting indulgence! This is probably why I eye each wash with trepidation, not joy.

Bettercallsaul1 · 02/09/2017 17:51

I completely agree, Cailleach! Ditto most housework actually.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 02/09/2017 17:57

I have bored everyone shitless with tales of my fabulous new steam generator iron (no temperature adjustment it does it automatically!!!!!) and one of my proudest moments was lending my DP some bed linen for a family visit and his mum raving about the smell of the sheets.

I buy my washing powder in France and it contains Marseille soap, it smells delicious.

Also I buy bulk bars of traditional laundry soap when I go to Italy. It's my holiday treat.

A Friday evening rubbing a soap block over DPs t shirt arm pits is something I really enjoy.

I truly am the saddest of the sad.

Can I join Laundry club please?

olderandnowiser · 02/09/2017 18:00

I too love to look at my washing blowing on the line and I feel quite jealous of you Cailleach
