This pisses me off!! Just because this isn't classed as a "real" cigarette AIBU to be pissed off when vaping around my babies. Or in any private places such as restaurants, pubs etc.

Ive been to two weddings where a couple where even vaping in CHURCH!!!
And then my niece was making her 1st holy communion and the lady in front was vaping...

I have seen no clinical evidence to suggest its safe.So in the mean time id wish the minority who do it would piss off.

(But hairspray causes more false alarms, he says.)

SerfTerf · 03/09/2017 00:47

Basically, more powerful mod, bigger tank/coil = more vapour production.

So proper vape-shop gear instead of
my emergency petrol-shop-bought 10 motives e-cig? Grin. All sounds very techy.

Strokethefurrywall · 03/09/2017 00:53

Small minded twats on this thread that can't distinguish the difference between exhaling cigarette fumes and vape steam. It's because it looks like smoking that's causing the biggest issue here.

I honestly don't give a tiny rats arse whether someone doesn't like it, I wouldn't vape in a church because I'm likely burst into flames if I go into one, but I have no issue vaping anywhere that's allowed and in front of my kids too. Amazingly I'm a well educated and well compensated member of society.

It's amazing that those who seek to belittle those who are or were addicted to nicotine continue despite the obvious benefits to vaping over smoking. They won't be happy until vapers are firmly put in their place as lesser members of society!

It's propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin (both used as, among other things, food additives), with nicotine and flavourings
It's important to state here that not everyone who vapes uses nicotine containing liquid. There at every plentiful and easily available nicotine free liquids.

EddChinasVagina · 03/09/2017 10:10

@HashiAsLarry I'm on 0 nicotine liquid as I abstained through my pregnancy but missed the habit of vaping - figured this was a good middle ground so glad you've pointed this out.

I could have a fag and push my pram instead if this would be considered more conventional to the anti-vapers on this thread.

Addley · 03/09/2017 10:47

Hashi you can also get unflavoured ones; I thought it was easier to just give a brief description of the most common vape blend.

But yes, the general public could be more informed about exactly what it is they're complaining about, and it's good to give a reminder that some people find a great route to giving up altogether by slowly reducing nicotine content to nothing, and then working on the physical part of the habit.

My main point is that vape is not steam or water vapour, which those defending vaping often bring up. It doesn't do us any good to state things that aren't true, because the moment people find out that it's not water they'll go "Aha! They were lying or misguided; it's not water, it's chemicals!" (with that voice of horror at the idea of chemicals).

OhOfCourse · 03/09/2017 11:07

@Strokethefurrywall you "don't give a flying rats arse"?

Wow.

So we must all love it or fuck off?

OhOfCourse · 03/09/2017 11:08

@Strokethefurrywall tiny rats arse*

Vegetable glycerin is sold on shelves at boots, it's primarily used taken orally for sore throats. Propolyne glycol is used in the likes of asthma inhalers as a disinfectant. Vapour containing both is not going to do any harm. Nicotine is not a carcinogen and it is usually synthetic nicotine used in ejuice so it is not extracted from tobacco plants. There is nothing in vapour that is going to cause harm, certainly not via the odd passive vapour.

Manners is all it really boils down too. People don't like a subohm cloud in their faces. Fair enough.

HashiAsLarry · 03/09/2017 11:21

True addley, its not just water vapour. However, several studies have shown the amount of PG and/or nicotine (can't find anything on VG which is odd but I've not been googling long and I remebered reading a nicotine/PG/etc study some while back) is zero or as close to zero as you can get in vapour. I'd never claim it to be harmless btw, but I don't think its the chemical monster that people make it out to be either.

FelicityFucknickle · 03/09/2017 11:27

I don't find it as repulsive as smoking but neither do I appreciate so many people adopting the "sucking on a crack pipe" look around children because they insist on prioritising their nicotine addiction.
Also, you can smell it when you pass through a cloud of vape so we must all me involuntarily taking in the nicotine too.

supermoon100 · 03/09/2017 11:28

It's the smell I can't stand. Yet another thread where an angry minority defends their selfish actions that have a negative affect on those around and we all just have to suck it up. (Re threads about ipads in restaurants etc)

Orangebird69 · 03/09/2017 11:30

What are they prioritising their addiction over?Confused

Addley · 03/09/2017 11:31

So far as I know, there's zero water in vape juice, so what water there is is what humans naturally breathe out of their lungs.

I think we're in agreement about likely harm to bystanders (probably little to none); I just don't want people to be told it's water vapour when it isn't, as when they find out it's SCARY THINGS WITH CHEMICAL NAMES they're likely to discount everything else they've previously heard about the safety or otherwise of vaping.

The real danger is air fresheners from my perspective Grin I've had to leave places before now because a just-above-head-height automatically-triggered squirter in the loo cubicles has sprayed a cloud of irritant particles right at my head. And as I said before, if someone has one of those time-activated air freshener squirters in their house, I often don't realise until I'm sitting there an hour later feeling queasy and headachey. I just assume they have an over-scented house, not that they've got something regularly and automatically filling the air with nasty particles.

Velvian · 03/09/2017 11:33

Yanbu, op. It is far too early to know any of the long term implications of vaping.

HashiAsLarry · 03/09/2017 11:34

So far as I know, there's zero water in vape juice, so what water there is is what humans naturally breathe out of their lungs.
And there's lots of dodgy stuff in what some people breathe out from their lungs too Grin

I'm with you on air fresheners all the way addley.

Copperspot · 03/09/2017 11:35

What always annoys me on these threads is the amount of people that think people shouldn't do something / it should be banned just because they don't like it. Newsflash it's not just your world!!!

I don't like the smell of vanilla, so lets ban that.
The smell of coffee makes me feel sick, so lets ban all coffee shops.
I don't like rowdy drunks, so lets ban booze.

Or i could just accept that other people do like those things, and get over it....

OnlyGodKnowsWhy · 03/09/2017 11:41

Distilled or purified water is sometimes used in high VG ejuice to thin it a little. There are worse things children can have or see than a parent with a nicotine addiction. Perspective.

over avoiding vaping (thus normalising drug taking) around children.

Addley · 03/09/2017 11:53

Fair enough Only, I don't use high VG so I didn't know. But most vapers vaping most juices aren't breathing out water vapour, and even in a diluted mix it'll only be a part of it. So people saying "but it's just scented steam" are giving the wrong idea.

OnlyGodKnowsWhy · 03/09/2017 11:58

As said earlier, passive effects have been studied. The documentary on horizon is very informative. Passive vaping is next to nil.

Orangebird69 · 03/09/2017 11:58

Oh ffs. I'm guessing you find having a beer or a glass of wine around children 'repulsive' as well then. Or tea/coffee?

PolarisStar · 03/09/2017 12:02

People always comment how nice mine smells.

People on this thread would hate me as my device kicks out a massive amount of dense vapor!
