Aibu to have an irrational hatred of JoJo bows?

Is it even irrational?! Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a hair accessory in general. But a) these are just so... big and b) seems most people don't have a clue how to wear them. I've seen the odd one worn so, while not to my taste, it looks vaguely 'right' but in the most part kids seem to do whatever they would normally do with their hair then just slap it on top of their head as though there's no correlation between hairstyle and bow. Basically it's like they are wearing helicopter blades. Just...odd. Prejudice not helped by fact took DD to theatre yesterday and her view was completely obscured by the ginormous helicopter bow plonked on top of the head of the kid in front. (Appreciate in the great scheme of things this is not something to waste energy on but friend and I were musing on way back from theatre and, if DD's friends are anything to go by, they seem to be very marmite. Love or hate?)

Hate - they seem to be a northern thing - not so popular down south

Mothervulva · 01/09/2017 07:32

There was a length discussion about these bows recently on mumsnet. People got pretty rude about them...

RainyDayBear · 01/09/2017 07:39

I dislike them intently, but as part of the generation that wore hair mascara as teenagers, I don't feel I can judge!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/09/2017 07:42

I really don't like them at all. BUT dd2 is 7 and adores them, so she's spent her pocket money on them and has 5 of the bloody things now. It's not my money and not my hair, so I'm letting her go with it now, she has to have a say in what she wears.

Walkingdead11 · 01/09/2017 07:53

No way hosay! My nearly 7 yr old wanted one and got told straight "no! If you want to look like some country hick from the deep south then no!!"

emochild · 01/09/2017 07:56

They're on their way out now

Being sold off at ridiculously cheap prices

hazeyjane · 01/09/2017 07:58

As dd2 says, 'when there is more bow than head there is something wrong'

CalamityJane75 · 01/09/2017 07:59

I wonder if they pick up a good signal with those awful things in their heads!Grin
I'm so happy my dd (4) seems to agree so far and is happy with little sensible sized bows for starting school

geekone · 01/09/2017 07:59

Do you remember "fergie" bows HUGE. It all comes round again

jaseyraex · 01/09/2017 07:59

If it's irrational then I have the same irrational dislike. They are awful. I don't like those silly headband bows on newborn babies either though. Maybe I just don't like bows.

wobblywonderwoman · 01/09/2017 07:59

Hate them. I won't say what they look like and I know I wore worse in my 'yoof' (shell suits etc)

I think Mrsawesomedragon is right to let her daughter wear them those.. It is their choice and they want to be like their friends.

limecordial · 01/09/2017 08:01

Jaseyraex - with you all the way

Hair mascara!! Rainydaybear I remember that!

ShatnersBassoon · 01/09/2017 08:06

You don't have to look great when you're little, you just need to be happy. They're fun to wear, I'm sure. I would definitely have wanted one when I was 7.

limecordial · 01/09/2017 08:06

As I say, hate then generally (live in london btw and they are rife). But at least if they're worn as part of a 'do' then they're not quite as bad. It's the random slap then on top of the head regardless of anything else that I hate most of all. just...why?! If you have no desire to look like a helicopter at least think about linking them in some way to the rest of your hairstyle. DD has a friend who loves them manages to style them in a way that they don't look completely ludicrous. The kid in front last night had her hair in a regular low pony tail then this thing slapped on top of her head nowhere near it.

Oh haha I thought the thread title was some sort of cutesy typo for a sexial act.

Never heard of jojo bows, I'm off to google & discover jow atrocious they are

ShatnersBassoon · 01/09/2017 08:07

That's what the kid wanted, presumably.

peachgreen · 01/09/2017 08:07

@jaseyraex The irrational rage I get when I see babies with hair accessories they don't have been NEARLY enough hair for...!

The Jojo bows are ridiculous but probably no more so than half the nonsense I used to wear as a kid. I wonder what my little one will be into when she gets to that age? There'll be some new stupid craze, no doubt!

limecordial · 01/09/2017 08:07

Not quite sure how so many typos slipped into that message. Must be the irrational loathing sending me funny

I'm always vaguely afraid a flotilla of small girls will end up taking off into the ether like helicopters, but as my own youth featured Fergie bows, giant scrunchies, Sun In and aubergine-coloured hair dye, I have no moral high ground on ugly hair accessories.

lalaloopyhead · 01/09/2017 08:13

I wouldn't wear one obviously but they are just a fashion thing that kids like, and I some parents take a deep breath and override their dislike of tacky things and let their kids have them. My dd has a Primark relatively tasteful navy blue version, it looks quite cute even though she is nearly ten!

I agree some do look a bit daft, especially the massive rainbow and diamante numbers, but then again I was rocking a pair of deelie boppers at that age....

gabsdot · 01/09/2017 08:13

Obviously they are exactly the sort of thing little girls love, colourful and enormous but I think they're a bit ridiculous looking.

Thankfully my DD, who is exactly the age of the target audience has short hair.

Writerwannabe83 · 01/09/2017 08:14

They are ridiculous.

My 8 year old niece wears them and I have to stop myself from saying anything about how silly they look. She wears her hair in a low pony tail and then had this massive bow just stuck randomly on her head - it's insane.

Part of me desperately doesn't want to look at her head because the bow gives me the rage but the other part of me can't tear my eyes away because they are just so weird! Grin

lalaloopyhead · 01/09/2017 08:15

Apologies for duplicate post!

Omg yes the fergie bows, not much difference really other than they were velvet and you stuck them on the back of your head. I remember my sister wearing them and not as a young child either!
