Aibu to have an irrational hatred of JoJo bows?

Is it even irrational?! Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a hair accessory in general. But a) these are just so... big and b) seems most people don't have a clue how to wear them. I've seen the odd one worn so, while not to my taste, it looks vaguely 'right' but in the most part kids seem to do whatever they would normally do with their hair then just slap it on top of their head as though there's no correlation between hairstyle and bow. Basically it's like they are wearing helicopter blades. Just...odd. Prejudice not helped by fact took DD to theatre yesterday and her view was completely obscured by the ginormous helicopter bow plonked on top of the head of the kid in front. (Appreciate in the great scheme of things this is not something to waste energy on but friend and I were musing on way back from theatre and, if DD's friends are anything to go by, they seem to be very marmite. Love or hate?)

I'm a huge Dance Moms fan so I kind of like them.

Frankie Says Tshirt anyone? 😉

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/09/2017 16:57

Hate - they seem to be a northern thing - not so popular down south

Actually they are an American thing if you are going to go down that route as JoJo was in Dance Moms.

HeadDreamer · 01/09/2017 16:57

I hate them and thinks they look chavvy. However, DD has them because she loves them. She bought them with her pocket money. It's not like a nose job, so I won't be saying no.

But I think the same about high heels and tights. Not to my taste, but I won't stop anyone wearning them. And tbh high heels actually do physical harm. Not JoJo Bows.

Glittertwins · 01/09/2017 17:51

Can't stand them as they are too oversized for the head. Luckily 9 yr old DD isn't keen, they'd look daft on her anyway as she has a small head.

Daydream007 · 01/09/2017 18:01

My DD pestered me for weeks to buy one but I refused because they look too big and ridiculous and dare I say 'common'. However, I managed to find a small neutral coloured one that looks lovely on her low classic ponytail but I only let her wear it when playing outGrin

CallySinammon · 01/09/2017 18:05

I knew it was a class thing, Poor kids having such insecure parents.

chronicleink · 01/09/2017 18:07

YANBU they're hideous and luckily haven't become a thing in our ( admittedly very middle class) area...

Mayhemmumma · 01/09/2017 18:08

Come on y'all, it's a hair clip.
Children love them, they're bright and bold and for once not trying to imitate what 20 year olds are wearing.

Mayhemmumma · 01/09/2017 18:09

Oh and I work in a super middle class area for a number of primaries - and they're everywhere.

derektheladyhamster · 01/09/2017 18:09

It's a bow. I don't understand the angst. Surely there are worse things they can do in life

HateSummer · 01/09/2017 18:10

Erm, yes they are!

I don't like them; the big bright and weird, but my dd does. I don't really care, it's a fad, why would you impose your views on your child over a bow like that?! Everyone making rude comments about them sound like horrible snobs. Get a life and get worked up about something that matters.

Sorry - wrong link. I'll try again

Montsti · 01/09/2017 18:27

Yanbu - they're bloody awful!

EmmaLou3422 · 01/09/2017 18:39

Jesus Christ, it's a bow. I can't believe some of you refuse to let your kids have them because you don't like them, I think that's quite spiteful. My step daughter loves them and has quite a few, she even bought a Jojo bow making kit out of her pocket money and I sat there and made some with her. It's a bow! can't believe how angry some of you are over them.

ijustwannadance · 01/09/2017 18:51

I hate them but DD has 3. I keep my mouth shut as I remenber wearing these things like a chimney on the top of my head.

EmmaLou - OP did out irrational hatred in her title. It's just a confessional thread - don't think people are suggesting anything 'be done', as it were.

verbaIkint · 01/09/2017 20:20

I've been very reluctant to get one for DD9 (mainly as we were in Skegvegas and they were all beyond respectfully tacky) but caved earlier today when out with DM and saw an okish pastel one in Asda (no sparkly shit).
After lovely joyful screams and nearly falling off the chair DD immediately asked me to pin it to the side of her head.
DM who'd played an active role (paid) in getting the damn thing, described it prior as lovely and demanded I put it in the basket, was now mouthing at me WTF does that even look like!
Is it a bow?gyspy wedding fascinator?hat?

YANBU they're fugly but I'm just glad they're harmless.

goose1964 · 01/09/2017 20:22

I still have a Fergus bow, beaded rather than velvet, still not sure what a JoJo bow is , glad we only have boys

camelfinger · 01/09/2017 20:29

A scraped back high ponytail has been a hairstyle much criticised for years. A Jojo bow appears to emphasise this look, so it doesn't surprise me that many people don't like them.

Ohyesiam · 01/09/2017 20:41

Yadnbu
And it's perfectly rational

Lambzig · 01/09/2017 20:51

YADNBU.

I have a real dislike of bows, which borders on a phobia. Cannot stand them on clothes shoes or in hair and these huge monstrosities give me the creeps. Luckily DD shares my bow horror (or is uncharacteristically trying to please me) and hates them too.

DDs friend was wearing a massive rainbow coloured one in her hair today and I could barely look at her.

Lambzig · 01/09/2017 20:52

Ha, verbalkint DDs friend had bought hers in Skegness.

SalamiSandwich · 01/09/2017 20:52

Lambzig I also hate bows and won't own anything with one on. I also hate the feel of ribbon.
