Aibu to have an irrational hatred of JoJo bows?

Is it even irrational?! Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a hair accessory in general. But a) these are just so... big and b) seems most people don't have a clue how to wear them. I've seen the odd one worn so, while not to my taste, it looks vaguely 'right' but in the most part kids seem to do whatever they would normally do with their hair then just slap it on top of their head as though there's no correlation between hairstyle and bow. Basically it's like they are wearing helicopter blades. Just...odd. Prejudice not helped by fact took DD to theatre yesterday and her view was completely obscured by the ginormous helicopter bow plonked on top of the head of the kid in front. (Appreciate in the great scheme of things this is not something to waste energy on but friend and I were musing on way back from theatre and, if DD's friends are anything to go by, they seem to be very marmite. Love or hate?)

They are irritating when plonked on little kids heads randomly.

But here, they are fashionable amongst teens too. I think there is something very weird about older kids dressing as younger ones, so that makes me uncomfortable.

JacquesHammer · 01/09/2017 11:03

To be honest I think its more irrational as an adult to care or indeed judge what a child wants to wear in fun.

My DD isn't interested - if she was would I allow her? Yes of course, where's the harm?

Hate - they seem to be a northern thing - not so popular down south

Don't be daft. If you're truly Northern they don't fit under your flat cap and the whippets run away with them

expatinscotland · 01/09/2017 11:04

I love them! But only because I bought a load of them for $5 in Wal-Mart in the US and then flogged them for over a tenner each here. Happy days!

CallySinammon · 01/09/2017 11:05

They're a silly, fun fashion item for little girls. You (middle aged mother) are not supposed to like them!

SalamiSandwich · 01/09/2017 11:15

I think they look ridiculous, especially when they're bigger than the child's head.

Passmethecrisps · 01/09/2017 11:18

Gosh jonsnow's list was like reliving my youth!

They are slightly daft but I don't really get the level of hatred for them.

I dislike those massive frilly socks much more. The ankle socks with enormous frills which go down over the shoes

CallySinammon · 01/09/2017 11:21

I suspect the hatred of them is a snobbery thing. Loads of little girls wear fairy wings which objectively are far more ridiculous but I never see anyone criticise those. Because they're more Joules catalogue friendly probably.

AnyFucker · 01/09/2017 11:22

Every time my eyes flick over the title of this thread in active I see "blow jobs"

CallySinammon · 01/09/2017 11:23

'The ankle socks with enormous frills which go down over the shoes'

Like spats? 😅 I haven't seen them yet.

Passmethecrisps · 01/09/2017 11:28

I was exactly the same anyfucker. I saw it and thought "but that's entirely rational"

There are a handful of kids here wearing them cally

Picklesandpies · 01/09/2017 11:32

Applesandpears You obviously haven't been to Portsmouth recently! Very popular there Confused We live about 40 minutes away from there in a very nice and very 'south eastern' town and have managed to avoid them for the last year. However, for dd1 and dd2 birthday this year they were bought some. They were allowed to wear them to Portsmouth and nowhere else but they have now been put away as it really wasn't helping with already existing behaviour problems - the 'JoJo attitude' of flicking hair about and generally being precocious was apparent and I just couldn't bear it. Behaviour improved - but this was alongside other changes we made. I hate them though. Awful, awful things!

Namechangetempissue · 01/09/2017 11:42

Didn't impede on people's views in the cinema limecordial - have you forgotten the incredible shaggy big perm in the 80s? My mum's was insane (pic isn't my mum BTW!).

SpikeGilesSandwich · 01/09/2017 12:06

They are awful but as previous posters have pointed out, we all went through phases of wearing terrible tat and thinking it was fabulous. I don't have a problem with it, harmless enough.
Does anyone remember those massive, plastic dummy necklaces? Now they were horrendous!

TheNaze73 · 01/09/2017 12:16

Let & let live. Surely it's the fact they're designed for children & not middle aged parents?
I'm sure our parents can thought leg warmers, Kickers & jumbo cords were equally as ridiculous

gamerwidow · 01/09/2017 12:20

Meh they look stupid but if you can't look stupid when you're a kid when can you.
I never interfere with DDs fashion choices as long as they're age appropriate and don't require me remortgaging the house.

Mari50 · 01/09/2017 13:04

They are fugly.
My DD wanted one and I managed to rain on her parade so much she gave up asking. At which point a kind aunt intervened and bought her one 'as a gift'.
DD has worn it two or three times, recently asked if it would be ok to give it away because 'it's not really me' - hurrah!! Give it away to the binmen honey.

Mummaofboys · 01/09/2017 15:47

I dislike them with a passion but if I had a child that wanted to wear one I'd be ok with it being worn in the home as part of a dress up costume but I'd never let said daughter out in public whilst wearing one.

Allthewaves · 01/09/2017 15:49

No I hate them with a passion

coffeekittens · 01/09/2017 15:51

They're absolutely vulgar and I will sell my child if she ever comes home with such a monstrosity.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/09/2017 15:52

I think the mothers (and it is always the mothers) who decide what fun accessories little kids can wear are beyond sad. They must be lacking in esteem themselves if they think what a young child wears actually reflects on them.

These bows have a self-life naturally as kids tire of them. They're also pretty expensive so charity shops are a better and more environmental way of disposing of them rather than idiotically adding to landfill.

elevenclips · 01/09/2017 15:54

All about making money. The big corporations don't care what the next big thing is as long as millions of people buy it. Load of bollocks.

PresentlyTense · 01/09/2017 15:56

They're just a fashion trend. Don't like them much, but then again I'm not a seven year old girl. What I do find really ugly are those headbands on bald babies though.

SweetEnough · 01/09/2017 16:01

I hate them, and refuse to buy them. However, my Dd 7 has one. Her money, her hair, her bad choice.

DD (9) bought a couple recently with her birthday money - can't stand the things personally - bloody tacky crap, but her hair, her money - she'll get sick of them soon (one they've had their 5 nanoseconds of coolness)
