I suppose it depends on who the Democrat (or Republican challenger) will be. If he gets to 2020.

lionheart · 26/08/2017 21:07

Anyone, even a politician who dissembles and spins a little, is going to look like a god in comparison.

cozietoesie · 26/08/2017 21:18

Holder and Newsom - although not necessarily in that order. There. I've stuck my neck out.

lionheart · 26/08/2017 22:04

I can't even begin to guess.

I'll bet the Justice Department declined to comment.

Interesting .Guardian piece on Mr Bannon.

Bannon, Breitbart and an advertising boycott

AcrossthePond55 · 27/08/2017 02:40

I'm with you cozie. Gavin Newsom 2020. Although rumour has it that he's planning on running for Gov in 2018, so may be more interested in the WH in 2024.

Good article on why Trump pardoned Arpaio (sp?)

Sinon Reborn, the email hoaxer who got Scaramucci by pretending to be Priebus, has had a crack at the Br eitbarters.

thehill.com/homenews/media/347547-breitbart-editor-in-chief-says-jared-kushner-and-ivanka-trump-will-be-out-by
An internet prankster posing as Stephen Bannon baited Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow into saying he would assist Bannon with his "dirty work" and help push Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner out of the White House.
...
"I spooked em today," Marlow replied. "Did five stories on globalist takeover positioning you as only hope to stop it."
...
"Let me see what I can do ... hard to know given your description of them as evil," Marlow responded. "I don't know what motivates them. If they are semi normal, then yes, they out by end of year."

Just woke to the repellent tones of Gorka saying he resigned because of "non-Trumpian forces in the WH, who would have been just as comfortable working for Hillary Clinton".

From The Atlantic article posted by Inigo.

'You may think, It’s impossible that a president of the United States would be so vain and petty. You would be wrong.'

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/08/2017 08:33

So would it be the case that leaving aside the moral revulsion of openly condoning and rewarding racism, and the fact that the pardon is legally ok, trump asking
Sessions to drop the case could be considered obstruction of justice? Or have I become too gay FBI with that phrase?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/08/2017 08:33

Blush I meant gung-ho! No idea where gay fbi came from

Republicans Want To Defund The Commission That Fights Voting Machine Hacking

There is absolutely no justification for abolishing the Election Assistance Commission.

Grin I thought I'd missed some new coded news speak. Was pondering what 'gay FBI ' could possibly refer to!

A way for us all to counter the bots. I've been looking for ways to contribute to the resistance (with time and effort rather than pecuniary- im afraid all my chosen causes are closer to home) and this seems pretty easy, if in it's early stages.

Thread 1. I learned something tonight. You can virtually shut down a #Russian troll bot trending hashtag and make the trolls back off.

  1. I looked at @selectedwisdom dashboard.securingdemocracy.org and saw the trolls were going after Navarro because posobicuck tried to gotcha her.
  2. I followed the hashtag and sure enough Russian troll central. So I started responding to each troll post with news in Russian.
  3. I used an article about their biggest bank being kicked out of SWIFT that @20committee RTd this morning. If the trolls responded I CC'd
  4. Putin. They won't respond after that. It completely shuts them down. So I did this for a while. Other were doing similar.
  5. Now I'm not claiming I caused this. The dashboard is set up on a 48 hour monitoring system. But I do think it had an effect.
  6. When I started, the hashtag was the top trending tag. When I finished it was gone completely. Again. I don't think I caused that.
  7. But I think if enough people picked a bot trending hashtag and respond with negative news about the Russian economy and Putin
  8. to troll posts, we could shut down their daily propaganda goals. I need to do some more work to test this out and collect data, but
10. It seems at least at first blush to be effective. One thing though. I won't use their hashtag. I use #Kremlingate in my responses. 11. I don't want to further their trend. I want to substitute a counter tag. Anyway, food for thought. EoT 12. Early morning final though: Does anyone else find it odd that the Russian bot army would instantly come to the aid of @JackPosobiec? 13. It's like they're...connected. Very peculiar? @DeptofDefense should look into why a naval officer is being supported by #Russian bots.

Ah, so Gorka's busy on the "Trumpism, not Trump" agenda too (no surprise). They want 45's brand name - but with them getting to define the brand.

Whereas the actual Trump... well, he sacked them.

Arpaio's pardon for his contempt conviction tells guys like Flynn & Manifort they needn't obey a subpoena to testify for Mueller grand jury!

Sarah Kendzior
Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior
Why the "Mueller will save us; just wait" crowd is deluded. Trump will abuse power to furthest extent possible. Congress needs to act now.

The president supports neo-Nazis and pardoned a man who ran what he proudly called concentration camps. You should know where this is going.

Arpaio is so vile even Manafort shunned him at RNC. But Trump loves him. With pardon, he signals approval for concentration camps, torture.

Rebecca M. Townsend @RebeccaTownsend
Replying to @sarahkendzior
What about state attorneys general investigations and state trials?

Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior
It's the same problem; irrevocable damage can be done as they work because they do it so slowly.

He can destroy the country (and others) as people wait for Mueller. Congress is a bad bet but it's better than Mueller. Need to act now.

Optimism and pessimism are both irrelevant. Persistence and determination are what matters. Public pressure has had an effect.
