I'm sure that any proceeds from those stupid hats will go right in his own pockets. After all, this is the "Profits for the President" President. He is changing the Presidency into a 'for profit' institution and no one is stopping him. I think that's part of his strategy; propose & enact horrors and make disgusting statements to distract from his real purpose; turning his tenure into a money-maker. After all who cares about $40.00 hats when he's tweaking KJU's tail? Luckily, the facts coming out about the Trump Tower Moscow deal may be too big an issue to be ignored or distracted from. Although I shiver to think what he may come up with to try to distract us!

Interesting article here

There are legal challenges to that Apaio pardon. Smile

The pardon saga will continue in Judge Susan Bolton's courtroom. Watch this space.

I wish them well - but I think they'll fail. On this specific case.

lionheart · 30/08/2017 17:10

Me too but I'm glad they will try. Smile

cozietoesie · 30/08/2017 17:29

Me also. (This is one case that I'd love to argue in front of SCOTUS.)

PerkingFaintly · 30/08/2017 17:36

I can't read behind the paywall, but according to Cadwalladr's colleague, Alex Hern, The Times article about the DavidJo account is just a rehash of the original Twitter thread analysing it, by @ conspirator0.

twitter.com/alexhern/status/902793519550607360

So, no verification or proper further research. Very poor show from The Times, if so. The account sounds very worth investigating - but needs that investigation before one can draw conclusions.

Looks like Mattis is breaking with Trump.
First on the transgender military ban and now on North Korea.

The generals Mattis, McMaster and Kelly all seem like bastions of sanity.

Never forget that they're military, though.

Did anyone see Kay Burley interviewing Brad Blakeman, Republican strategist, on Sky News just now? He started off by denying climate change, then said if the hurricane was made worse by climate change it was all China and India's fault. KB, just about managing to keep a straight face, asked him if China was signed up to the Paris Agreement, to which he replied it was, but China never honoured anything they signed.

I suspect he may be sacked reasonably quickly from whatever organisation he's currently working for...

cozietoesie · 30/08/2017 18:52

That was an ........unfortunate thing to say in the current climate.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 30/08/2017 19:06

Cozie I forgot half the sentence. Bastions of sanity compared to Trump Grin

PerkingFaintly · 30/08/2017 19:10

Sorry to keep going on about this, but I've become quite interested in the way social media has been used for active measures.

This is a very interesting interview with Mike Hind of The New European by James O'Brien at LBC. It starts by talking about the DavidJo Twitter account but goes much broader, talking about UK and US Twitter amplifiers as well as Russian troll factories.

It's worth listening to the end, where they discuss the "Ecosystem of Fake". Eg Hind's colleague found approx 100 dormant Facebook accounts, profile pics of porn stars, some with associated LinkedIn accounts, all just sitting there waiting to be sprung into action.

Not going on at all perking, it's important to understand.

Didn't people used to worry about the optics? Has that all fallen by the wayside (not that it needs saving in and of itself- am just interested)?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 30/08/2017 19:16

Sorry, that sounds glib. I can't believe they're in the middle of a hurricane where people are facing potentially years worth of devastation and thinking, ooh cutting disaster funding would be a good thing to do

It seems help for Sandy victims was delayed by politics.

Apparently Beyonce has donated $7 million. Hasn't made a big deal out of it tho, unlike someone we know...

I don't think it's bad to publicise it if it encourages people to donate.

The question is how much is the supposed billionaire at the WH donating?

lionheart · 30/08/2017 19:37

The generals Mattis, McMaster and Kelly all seem like bastions of sanity.

Two equally unappealing possible futures:

  1. Authoritarian regime (Trump)
  2. military coup/junta (the generals)

Hard to say which is the least worst, as military juntas usually go sideways too. Or, you know, the GOP could stop sitting on its hands and nip this all in the bud...

Lweji · 30/08/2017 19:44

The prognosis is not good.

I don't believe Hurricane Harvey is God's punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor. But that is more credible than "climate change."
