Thanks, Pain, that Carole Cadwalladr thread is very interesting.
She refers to an article where @ MikeH_PR of the The New European newspaper tracks down a David Jones who appears to be linked to the DavidJo Twitter account (the one amplifying v select content... in Russian office hours only).
He's a UKIP local councillor in Portadown, Northern Ireland.
"Councillor Jones states immediately, "That's not me. That's not me." And when I ask if he knows who DavidJo is he is equally emphatic, saying: "I think that's somebody from down in the Isle of Wight or the south of England." He then throws in: "Because, funnily enough I was asked about that before — no, that is not me."
So I explain how his telephone number is apparently linked with @DavidJo52951945 in the deep web. He explains again that he has been asked before about it but that it is not him. He says he does have a Twitter account and offers the handle as "@councillordjones". All that does is confuse me more, because I haven't yet found his Twitter account."
I ask Councillor Jones if it troubles him to be apparently, albeit incorrectly, connected in some way with the Twitter account of 'DavidJo'. And he says, "no — nobody has ever asked me before."
(BTW, I too can't find a Twitter name of "@councillordjones". Or "@counsellordjones" or "@cllrdjones". Sorry, weird MN formatting - shouldn't be asterisks in any of those.)
