Male beauticians and waxing!!

Emboo19 · 25/08/2017 12:46

This is based on a friends experience, not mine and it's not so much a AIBU. But we've been discussing it at length and I'm interested in others thoughts.
So would you be ok with a male beautician doing intimate waxing? Would it depend on quite how intimate, so a bikini wax would be ok, but a all off not so much?

I'm not actually sure myself. A part of me thinks it's no different to a male doctor or nurse and I'd be fine with that. Definitely wouldn't have a problem with any other beauty treatments being done by a man, but waxing that invloves no underwear, I'm not sure!!

I'm crap at maths but even I know that 60% females means more clients are women

Considering where your friend is based, are the 60% females transgender?

HillaryWinshaw · 25/08/2017 18:03

People keep their knickers on for a massage?

stitchglitched · 25/08/2017 18:04

Sounds like your friend just doesn't want to admit she is prioritising the feelings of men over the privacy, dignity and choice of women. Wrapping it all up in a veil of 'inclusivity' is a good silencing tactic but really it is just another example of women being thrown under a bus.

Allthelightsgoout · 25/08/2017 18:07

I think it would be very unlikely to happen anyway, but I wouldn't care.

TheDowagerCuntess · 25/08/2017 18:09

I wouldn't want anyone except a HCP down there, which is why I sort myself out.

And even when it comes to HCPs, I'd far and away prefer a woman (I have a woman GP, and female nurses always do smears).

A female obstetrician helped me deliver DS1, and a female midwife delivered DC2. Would I have refused a male? Categorically not! But I definitely preferred a woman.

Am glad we live in a day and age when, for the most part, we have a choice.

CatsAreAssholes · 25/08/2017 18:28

know it as an individuals choice, but what is the difference in a man doing it vs a woman?

Do you really not know? If you live in the UK, you use sex segregated changing rooms, toilets etc. This is based around our culture which is sex segregated when genitals are concerned.

Skaross's friend is not being very inclusive to women who have suffered sex assault.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 25/08/2017 18:33

Cannot believe women who don't want to be touched intimately by men are seen as discriminatory.

Yeah because a woman who has been raped or abused - like a substantial proportion of women have - and who lives in a patriarchal society is TOTALLY in the same position as a straight man.

It's like those white rights arseholes who say affirmative action is racism. Basically, people exploiting the language employed by activists tackling genuine inequalities to shore up the status quo.

It is a kind of "innocent" wide eyed cuntiness I particularly despise. If you think women don't have the right to decide who touches their bodies, own that and admit upfront you're a handmaid.

crazypenguinlady · 25/08/2017 18:38

I wouldn't feel comfortable. Oddly enough, I think I'd have been okay with a male midwife during delivery.

Coldilox · 25/08/2017 18:45

I somehow doubt that many lesbian woman would be comfortable with a man doing intimate waxing..

Wouldn't bother me.

Coldilox · 25/08/2017 18:45

Bold fail!

moomin4071 · 25/08/2017 18:45

I don't have a problem with it

Roomster101 · 25/08/2017 19:01

I didn't say all lesbian women *Coldilox". What I mean is I don't see why they would be more comfortable than heterosexual women so the argument that she is being inclusive towards LGBT customers doesn't stand.

Coldilox · 25/08/2017 19:08

Well I'll agree with that, I doubt it would make a difference. I thought you were saying that a lesbian would be less likely to be comfortable.

winglesspegasus · 25/08/2017 19:19

had problems wth male gyn hcp
he wouldnt listen to me.
massuese, salon, spa males all treated me with respect and as professionals listened to concerns and wants.

but if you are uncomfortable thats your choice
would be more concerned about whether they knew what they were doing.
have seen bad experiences with female spa /beauty professionals
as well.

Me too Johnny

noeffingidea · 25/08/2017 20:54

JohnnyMcGrath well said.

gingergenius · 25/08/2017 21:02

I would imagine as with male HCP, a female chaperone would need to be present during a treatment. Especially if he is waxing an intimate area. In which case, not a problem!

Eleanorsummer · 25/08/2017 21:13

It wouldn't bother me.

I think it unlikely that a female chaperone would be present every time a male beautician does anything even if waxing an intimate area. That wouldn't be very cost effective for the business.

Marcipex · 26/08/2017 01:22

I also have heard female beauticians gossiping. Confidentiality my eye.

HiJenny35 · 26/08/2017 01:51

So in the same theme, would you want to be informed if the therapist was a lesbian? Because I'm assuming those of you not wanting a male is because of the possible sexual stimulation.

stitchglitched · 26/08/2017 01:53

Perhaps you should read the thread HiJenny.

Snowme · 26/08/2017 02:18

Well, straight or gay it's regardless, only another woman knows exactly the pain potential and delicacy of the inner workings when you're having a Hollywood or Brazilian.
Those inner flaps, how pulling them one way or stretching them another, particularly if it's all a bit messed up down there from prolapses, hood collapse or perineal tears etc, a male just won't know from personal experience which bits and pieces are most delicate during the waxing process. He'll have the theory, but not the practice. Because he doesn't have that body part.

Anyway, I've no idea if my female waxers are straight or gay, doesn't cross my mind.

But I wouldn't accept a male for the reasons above.

Fartypant · 26/08/2017 02:27

What has being a lesbian got to do with this? No-one think rape and sexual assault, is about 'attraction' do they? It's about power and control. Statistically, women don't sexually assault people MEN do

smurfit · 26/08/2017 02:31

@Fartypant so because statistics say so, no woman has ever sexually assaulted anyone else ever and will never do so? That's absurd.

As to the main question, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it. However it would be kinda moot here as I would imagine they'd fall under the same law as HCP's where they have to have a female nurse in the room if a male is doing an intimate exam (not sure if it's a law persay or an HCP standard practice). But as far as I understand, this is to protect both the women from sexual assault and male doctors from false accusations.
