To think that it IS rude?

A friend posted on facebook the other day about having a work man other who pooed in her loo without asking. The comments were all saying how rude and disgusting it was. Some even saying to report him or that they would have kicked him out. Anyway I mentioned it to a friend who didn't see the problem. But I do think that it's rude aswell so aibu or is it rude not to ask?!

Another only on Mumsnet threads. Confused

A workman should ask permission to use the loo the first time he needs to use it. If he's going to be in your house some time, I wouldn't expect to be repeatedly asked.

As for alerting/asking in advance about needing to take a shit, no, I wouldn't expect to be informed about the particulars. I'd think someone was extremely inappropriate if they did so.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 24/08/2017 12:42

But a strangers loo is not for anyone who takes a fancy to piss and shit in. It's for the residents of the house, you can't expect to have free rein over someone else's toilet. Like for example if you were not near any toilets and you needed a poo you wouldn't just knock on someone's door and ask to use theirs. It isn't a god given right. You would simply wait.

But it isn't some random person's toilet, her home is his workplace while he is in there working on whatever it is he was working on. Don't you ever need to use a toilet when you are at work?

Arealhumanbeing · 24/08/2017 12:48

I don't get this at all.

If there's someone you don't know doing work at your house then yes they should ask to use the loo as a courtesy. And you should say, 'Yes of course, its upstairs on the left' etc.

If they need to poo then they need to poo! Am I missing something? Obviously they should open the window and not leave a mess.

I think on big jobs when there are a team of workers they bring a porter loo so as not to be constantly walking through the house in work boots. But seriously what was he supposed to do. Stand there and shit his pants?!

TheWartyOne · 24/08/2017 12:50

It's just a poo, no harm done. I could understand the hysteria in the OP if they smeared shit all over the walls and floor and left it for the home owner to clean up.

StickThatInYourPipe · 24/08/2017 13:01

I thought if someone was coming into your home to work, you had to provide all important facilities, like a toilet.

Dancingfairy · 24/08/2017 13:03

I don't think there's any law that says you do.

big jobs Grin Areal

This thread is great Grin.

Mittens1969 · 24/08/2017 13:17

You do realise that you're extremely odd, OP? And very, very unreasonable to think like this? People can develop serious physical problems if they hold poo in for long periods.

demirose87 · 24/08/2017 13:19

OP, find more pressing issues to get all worked up about. Shit happens.

fannydaggerz · 24/08/2017 13:28

A workman was in her house doing work and it was expected that he ask to do a poo?

That's ridiculous and anyone who agrees that someone should ask before they do a poo is also ridiculous.

SapphireStrange · 24/08/2017 13:35

Only if you undertake not to do a poo

Ceto, that inevitably made me think of the League of Gentlemen: 'The downstairs lavatory... into which we DO NOT PASS SOLIDS.' Grin

ToothTrauma · 24/08/2017 13:36

Oh I HATE people who make a fuss when they walk into a public toilet and find that it smells - SHOCK - like a toilet. When you're sitting on the pan and some wanker clatters in and starts bellowing about the smell. Is there anything more unnecessary? It makes everyone else so uncomfortable and you never know what medical issues someone might have.

Yeah but he did ask ??!!

Proudmummytodc2 · 24/08/2017 13:48

I disagree I don't think it is rude if you need to go then your need to go.

I have Crohn's disease I don't really have a choice I either use the toilet or it will come out of me in my clothes so I'd rather use the toilet than have that happen.

I really wouldn't have time to go to someone and say can I use your toilet because when I have to go I really have to go, and it's fine for people to go oh but that's different but you really wouldn't know I had it looking at me so this workman could have had similar without anyone knowing also. I really don't find it rude at all.

At the end of the day it's what a toilet is for and it's human nature to need to go l.

I really think people just like to be offended for anything in today' society.

Arealhumanbeing · 24/08/2017 13:50

'I don't think there's any law that says you do.'

No but basic human decency/kindness?

@HemanOrSheRa Grin I know. Lavatorial humour rules. Doesn't it, OP?!

Sheitgeist · 24/08/2017 13:51

I think your friend IBU for not telling said workman where the toilet is in the beginning, andmores so for objecting to him pooing in a, y'know, toilet.

I recall my good childhood/teenage friend. She'd waltz out of a public loo and and breezily address the next person in the queue:
"Sorry, I just had a jobby" without a second thought.

youarenotkiddingme · 24/08/2017 13:54

Omg! You actually genuinely believe people should specifically announce they need to urinate if deficate when they ask to use your bathroom?!

I make sure there is toilet stuff and air freshener in my bathroom at all times in case anyone feels they need to use it!

Mittens1969 · 24/08/2017 13:54

I'd actually find it a bit odd if a workman asked me if he could use the toilet tbh. It's not as if we're in school!

The workmen are doing work that YOU need them to do after all.

Girty999 · 24/08/2017 13:58

Reminds me of League of Gentlemen in Royston Vasey brown towels for down there, no number twos in downstairs loos x

youarenotkiddingme · 24/08/2017 13:58

Good point mittens I think it must be illegal to employ someone and not have bathroom facilities available for use?

Dancingfairy · 24/08/2017 14:02

No it's definitely not illegal lol there are public toilets after all. And if you think I'm "odd" people on the post were saying they would "punch him up" there was literally loads of comments! I'm mild compared to what I read on there.

OP posts:
Mittens1969 · 24/08/2017 14:14

Obviously a thread that attracted a lot of weird people then, OP. Hmm

AccrualIntentions · 24/08/2017 14:16

There are no public toilets near my house. If I didn't let them use my bathroom, a workman would have to shit in the garden or ask a neighbour. Both of which are unacceptable, for the avoidance of doubt on this truly bizarre thread. OP, you seriously think there are public toilets on every street?

Mittens1969 · 24/08/2017 14:18

Public toilets are not often situated in residential areas either.

For bigger jobs workmen do bring porta loos (eg builders). But not painter decorators normally.
