To ask what Myers Briggs type you are?

Did this on a course today. I am ISFJ and I was totally freaked out by the profile. It isn't sort of like me. It IS me. It's like somebody sat on my shoulder for a year and then described me. Anybody else had this?

ENFP-A The Campaigner here- very accurate!

Grawp · 24/08/2017 00:53

brit that really made me chuckle Grin

BertieBotts · 24/08/2017 00:54

Ovaries that's brilliant!! ENFP married to INTJ here too.

We're clearly the best type-couple Grin

It works because it's not particularly complicated BTW, it just looks like it.

Most people are happy to sit themselves on one side of a fence if presented with it and MBTI is basically just four fences:

Do you get energised by having company (E) or from alone time? (I)
(Most people know what introvert/extrovert are anyway by now since it's so trendy)

Are you more focused on the here and now (S) or on what's possible/what might happen? (N)

When you make decisions: are you a head person (T) or heart person? (F)

Are you more organised (J) or a scattered mess? (P)

So you go okay, I'm an ENFP - that means I'm a people-loving scattered mess who's always living in the clouds and makes decisions with her heart. DH (INTJ) is an introverted, logical person who has a plan for every conceivable possibility. [organised + possibility orientated]

It's not hocus pocus or astronomy, it's just feeding back exactly what you've told the machine. Then they make assumptions drawn from the combinations of these four traits which tend to be accurate enough because again they are based on the same information.

Ignore the titles though, they are a bit random and seem to change completely based on what site you're on. If the description you get isn't you then you might have one of your fences wrong. Make sure you're picking based on what you're actually like and not what you wish you were like - I have a tendency to think I'm a bit more head over heart but in reality when I make decisions day to day, I'm not.

I think Adventurer is a rubbish title for ISFPs because they tend to be the type to want to take stock before acting. They're not quite as "off in their own little world" as INFPs are most of the time but ISFPs can be quite creative and so not easily understood by others.

The A/T thing at the end is an attempt to bring it into line with the Big 5 personality thing but I don't think it makes much difference personally.

ShowPineapple · 24/08/2017 01:01

I'm INFP I love this stuff

mogloveseggs · 24/08/2017 01:01

ISFJ here. Depressingly accurate especially the bit about being unappreciated at work, not just in this job either.

Somerville · 24/08/2017 01:03

Have the ENFPs married to INTJs seen this? My ENFP sibling sent it to me - scarily accurate Grin

Spot on

DasPepe · 24/08/2017 01:08

I could go on about MB for hours! It has literally saved my sanity by making me understand why I sometimes cannot communicate with others!

ISTP

Loved when in our training we had all Introverts on one side and Extroverts on the other. Task: write 3 questions you would ask the others. So all the introverts go "hmmm" and start thinking. all the Extroverts start talking! It really brought it home for me! They can't think before they speak- that's how they think!

MizK · 24/08/2017 01:21

ESFJ...which is apparently very common. Would be nice to be a mysterious type as many of you are but sadly I'm a run of the mill, loud, bossy, controlling eejit. Which, to be fair, had been pointed out to me many times prior to taking the test 😁

BertieBotts · 24/08/2017 01:24

I like the full version of this one :) (Click link!)

I used to be part of an ENFP INTJ facebook group but it was always full of trolls and people who were clearly in abusive relationships but weren't interested in leaving so I got fed up in the end.

DasPepe that is fascinating! And yes, spot on. I can't think before I speak because the way that I think is to speak - or type.

MBTI is bullshit. Just because it's reliable (gives the same result on repeated occasions) it doesn't mean it's valid (does what it says on the tin). You are discussing your 'profiles' as though they describe you perfectly. Of course they don't. The only dimension that actually exists on the Myers Briggs is the Extraversion v Introversion scale. The rest load onto a number of different dimensions. Current personality theory suggests 5 main dimensions (extraversion-introversion, openness-closed to new experience, conscientiousness-relaxed, agreeableness-hostile disagreeableness, and neuroticism-stability).

MBTI has limited practical application in the real world, and very little in the workplace. The 16 facets are about at useful as your star sign. Its only benefit is that it gives you the opportunity to talk about yourself for a little while and a peg upon which to hang your reactions and behaviours. At worst, it stops otherwise able and enthusiastic people from pursuing what they really want to do. By all means, if you want to pigeon hole yourself in one of 16 contrived and narrow boxes, go ahead, but this is not reflective of how personality is in reality.

For those of you who are committed to it, I suggest you read up on the Barnum Effect Grin

Seriously, you're defining yourself by the equivalent of a tractor, when ferraris are available now. (and don't tell me, you did the MBTI on a management training programme).

AngeloMysterioso · 24/08/2017 04:18

I'm another ENFP. Does anybody know the difference between this and the DISC personality test?

toffee1000 · 24/08/2017 04:18

Jesus you're a bit harsh, aren't you? I highly doubt people are pigeon holing themselves and prevent themselves from doing what they want. Some people might do so, but most people probably just regard it as something interesting to read about.

CaptainWarbeck · 24/08/2017 04:47

INFJ.

Laurie that was very funny. I have been known to drive to a party, sit outside in the car for a bit then decide not to go after all and go home Grin

Violetcharlotte · 24/08/2017 05:16

ENFJ here.

bookworm14 · 24/08/2017 05:29

INFJ. We're rare, special snowflakes apparently.

It may well be bollocks, but I can't see the harm in it.

CheerfulYank · 24/08/2017 05:31

ENFP and it's exactly me. :)
