Mumsnetters, I've had enough!!! I am 3 stone heavier than I was prior to DC's, unfit, have wobbly bits where no woman should have wobbly bits, and almost collapsed when I caught sight of my legs in the mirror while sporting a (very unflattering) swimsuit on holiday last week.

So that's it. It ends here. I am determined to lose weight. It took 9 months to put on (and has stayed on for many many more months!! - DC's are 3 and 5!!), so I pledge to lose it again in 9 months! And ... to get fit, and do something nice for a great charity, I've signed up for a charity place in the London Marathon ... just waiting to see if I get accepted. The marathon is on 22nd April - so that's my target! to run the marathon on 22nd April, and to have got back to my pre-baby weight, by that date.

AIBU to post one comment on this thread everyday to keep me motivated and stop me from backing out or giving up??

AI(also)BU to ask for a few supporting comments, and maybe for one or two of you (or more!!) to join me in pledging to lose weight/give up smoking/get fit/give up chocolate ..or whatever! for the next 9 months??

We can do it!!!! keep checking in here! and lets see if we can keep this going to April 22nd, and lets celebrate on that day!

The 9 month challenge starts now! ......

Would anyone like to do a weekly weigh in?
My brother stayed after dinner so I ended up having 2 beers. Still under my calorie count for the day though.

9monthchallenge · 23/08/2017 22:53

Not very strenuous today...I walked the DC to and from summer camp and did a 15min routine from the app. I'll be going out for a walk with a friend later but she's very pregnant so we won't be power walking! I think I'll be within my calorie limit again though, which is good.

Rightsaidmabel · 24/08/2017 19:22

Weekly weigh-in sounds good.I thought of doing a headless(!) before and after 9 mths pic to keep me straight and honest and yet if I finally come to post it,anonymous,if you see what I mean ? Face what I really look like now,and aim for less! Wink

RubyGoat · 24/08/2017 19:38

I'd like to join. I've got about a stone to lose (the last stone is always the hardest, they say - it certainly is for me, anyway). I probably can't do much proper exercise at present as I'm struggling with a health issue, but I'm trying to eat healthily. I'm just under 5'3", soI should be about 8st - 8st 7lb. Currently 9st 7. Oh and I've just been signed off sick from work, so I'm trying not to fall into the Minstrels while I stress about maybe losing my job... it's not easy.

NurseButtercup · 24/08/2017 19:55

Can I join in? I haven't weighed myself but I'm currently dress size 18 and aiming to be size 14 (the body i had 5 years ago) by next summer. I'm planning to do this by walking leave the car, turn off the TV and walk in all weathers (for a minimum 1 hour per day mon-fri and 2-4 hrs over the weekend), increase my water intake, cutting sugar & red meat out of my diet. I've done it this way before and it worked. I don't want to join a gym, and the shinsplints I get from running are too painful. I'm so pleased I've stumbled across this thread Grin

sanasa · 24/08/2017 19:57

I'm in please if that's ok x

9monthchallenge · 24/08/2017 23:29

Sanasa..., nurse..., and Lego... happy to have you on board!

Rightsaidmabel... a pic!! ShockWine not sure I feel able to unleash the legs on unsuspecting readers!!!

Mul... snap! Kept to calories today :) but not much exercise (considering it a 'rest day' - sounds formal and part of a plan!!! (it's not.. but I can kid myself!) and therefore don't feel so guilty!!!)

9monthchallenge · 24/08/2017 23:32

Rightsaidmable... that's my legs I was referring to by the way!!!! just realised this could have sounded really rude and impolite - I was NOT referring to your legs! ..which I'm sure are lovely and no way near as scary as mine!!!!

Morning, just popping in to post a weekly weigh in.

So, I have 37lbs to lose to get to a bmi of 25. I have lost 3lbs this week 😊, basically have tried to cut out sugar and processed food.

3lbs as a % of 37lbs = 8.1% of the way there!

Hopefully that % will creep up most weeks so I can see overall what progress has been made.

sanasa · 25/08/2017 14:06

Urgh was meant to start this today but I've failed. I've just eaten a cookie Confused I have zero willpower.
Must. Try. Harder. Tomorrow.
What keeps everyone else motivated?

MulhuddartDrive · 25/08/2017 17:45

Well done, Panic! That's a great start! Sanasa, tomorrow is another day. Tbh, I couldn't possibly do this if I thought a biscuit was an epic fail. Blush

Dh was home this afternoon (thank gods) so I threw the DC at him after summer camp and legged it to the pool where I did 40 lengths/1k in 31m35s and it felt great. Chippy tea will ruin all my good work though!

I weighed in this morning too. I put back one of the two kgs I counted earlier in the week. I need to stop weighing myself daily.

25 August 79kg. 14kg to go.

PanicAtTheDisco2000 · 25/08/2017 22:18

mulhudd , thanks!

How do you get on with swimming? Is it a pleasure or a chore? It all seems too much effort for me, getting there, changed, showered and changed back, and having to dry hair etc.

I can't run at the moment due to an injury and a friend is trying to get me to swimming, but I'm not convinced it's for me.

9monthchallenge · 25/08/2017 22:32

Nice one panic! Well done! I'm too scared to step on the scales! So doing a monthly weigh in to begin with!!

Well done on the swim Mul..

So day 5 for me - 1100 cals and a 30 minute run (happy about the run cos although it's not exactly 26 miles! ... it is the longest I've run without stopping for a good few years!!!) 5 days down ...

OP posts:
MulhuddartDrive · 25/08/2017 22:33

I love swimming, Panic. I love being in the water and how it clears my head (and sinuses!) in a way nothing else does. It is, however a massive faff and that regularly puts me off. Try it though, if you can get into the habit it's just lovely.

MulhuddartDrive · 25/08/2017 22:34

Well done, 9, 30mins is great!

blueberrypi27 · 25/08/2017 22:48

My baby is 9 months old, seems as good a time as any to join in :)

SellMySoulForMoreSleep · 26/08/2017 07:47

Yes please! I lost 2 stone on slimming world 2 years ago but have slowly put that back on over the 2 years. I need to lose 3 ideally and I started yesterday eating healthily with no snacks inbetween meals and no alcohol - I've been drinking way too much over the summer. Also, I'm trying to drink 2 litres of water a day. I need to start exercising so this thread will hopefully inspire me. I'm going to weigh on Friday mornings. Hello everyone! 👋🏻

mikado1 · 26/08/2017 07:53

I'm in. Just one stone would be great. Am a major chocolate bringer and haven't bought anything in a week. Dont want to restrictactually probably need to eat more good food and need to MOVE!! Let's go!

turinbrakesarefab · 26/08/2017 08:10

A bit late to the party but I would like to join as well. I also have about 3 stone of baby weight to lose. I remember looking at myself in the mirror when first one was a few weeks old and not recognising myself. "Babies" are 6 and 2! I actually managed to put more weight on whilst breastfeeding (huge carb cravings).
The toddler has finally stopped crying out regularly in the night (not always waking up proper but making me sit bolt upright every time) and I feel mostly back to normal.
Will start running again, which was always my thing. Will check in intermittently. Good luck veryone!

turinbrakesarefab · 26/08/2017 09:09

Oh and I won't be weighing myself, I'll be measuring once a week. Have found this more reliable/ less frustrating as I seem to retain water at random points through my cycle.

9monthchallenge · 26/08/2017 23:37

Day 6! Not great but kept to under 1500 cals I think! No exercise :( (except walking round park with DC's!) sugar cravings!!!! :(

OP posts:
RafikiIsTheBest · 27/08/2017 10:15

A few days late but please can I join in too?

I can't run due to health problems, but building up how much I walk. I over did it last week then had a couple of days of binging but before that the sugar free diet with walking was doing wonders for me.
I want to shift another 1/2 stone or so then start swimming (I feel too self conscious at the moment... possibly just need to get over that).
My target weight (which might change as it's been so long since I was somewhat slim) is 12st, currently at 14st 11lbs (was 14st 7lbs before my binge earlier this week) and size 18. I would like to be a small 14/large 12.

I struggle with sugar cravings (possibly addiction) and when I start I don't stop until I feel like I'm going to be ill (often a few sharing bags later). So need some support and something to help keep in me check.

NurseButtercup · 27/08/2017 16:29

Here you are I couldn't find the thread!!

OK so I've managed to do 9miles walking since my last post I'm very pleased with myself.

The sugar elimination is harder and will take time. I'm OK not eating cakes, sweets, biscuits etc it's like I've switched something on and I'm not having cravings (yet). However, I have a cupboard full of food and Sugar is in EVERYTHING tomatoe ketchup, pasta sauce, cereal (even bran flakes). Can't afford to just chuck food away so I'm reducing portion sizes and taking it from there.

9monthchallenge · 27/08/2017 16:51

Of course u can join rafikils... ! I know what u mean about sugar cravings!!! I can happily eat several chocolate bars in a day!!! Even though I could live without everything else!!!! However ...

It's day 7!!! And been really good all week! (Whoop whoop!!! Don't normally stick to diets for more than a couple of days!!! ... something wierd is happening to me!!!!)

So I miscalculated the months! 35 weeks from the start to the London marathon! Not quite 9 months, but hey! ... anyway, now 1 week down!!!!! 34 to go!!!! ..... bring It on! ....

Well done on the walking nurse..! Yup - damn that sugar!! (Does sugar in fruit count as bad?? I'm substituting choc for fruit at the moment (although choc appears to b a lot cheaper than the nice fruit! - raspberries, strawberries ....!!!) Smile

Stil not sure when to weigh in! So scared of upsetting myself! Was gonna make it monthly - now I'm thinking 5 weekly! Cos 35 divides nicely into 5's!!! (never been this scared of the scales!!!!)
