To have refused to remove our coats from free chair in the pub

We were out earlier in a local pub for lunch. There was five of us sitting around a table, with our jackets, cardigans, elderly person's walking stick etc on the sixth chair.

A family of four came in and went to a table for four behind us. The daughter, aged about six, put her stuffed toy on one of the chairs and then kicked off that there was no seat for her.

Mother then came over to our table and asked us to move our stuff off the spare seat so her daughter could have it. We pointed out that there was a spare seat at their table and she said 'oh the giraffe is using that chair'. We replied that our coats etc were using our spare chair and she went off in a huff.

WWBU. Obviously, if the seat had genuinely been needed we would have moved all our stuff.

DonkeyOaty · 19/08/2017 15:16

Och you bunch of meanies.

Cheguevarahamster · 19/08/2017 15:16

I think you were perfectly reasonable.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 19/08/2017 15:16

YANBU. Sounds like a classic case of PFB!

Flumplet · 19/08/2017 15:16

So let me get this straight, your stuff was on a spare seat at someone else's table?

FluffyMcCloud · 19/08/2017 15:17

Oh you were definitely in the right! Fucking giraffe is using the chair, fuck off lol

SisterMoonshine · 19/08/2017 15:17

Peachyking000 · 19/08/2017 15:18

No, I think it was on a spare seat at OP's table?

CherieBabySpliffUp · 19/08/2017 15:18

I wouldn't have moved the stuff from the chair BUT I also wouldn't have asked for a chair in the first place!
The mother was mad indulging her child like that Shock

user1498921160 · 19/08/2017 15:18

No Flumplet, it was at our table and she wanted to bring it over to her table.

Botanicbaby · 19/08/2017 15:18

I'd have pointed out to her that the 'giraffe' needs to learn to share first so no, YANBU Wink

Bizzysocks · 19/08/2017 15:19

I think you were mean, I would have moved my stuff to make a child happy.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/08/2017 15:20

Hold on. Am I reading this right.
You're complaining about a 6 year old child, doing what you were doing. Using a chair for the purpose of inanimate objects. If she's wrong to use a chair for her teddy. You're wrong to use one for coats and umbrellas, or Are you set of rules better because you're an adult.

insancerre · 19/08/2017 15:21

Lol
Yanbu

user1498921160 · 19/08/2017 15:21

What are you on about Aww. Did you actually read my post?

OP posts:
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/08/2017 15:21

Ha, no, YWNBU. They didn't really need the extra chair, did they now.

Anyway, they asked, you said no, they huffed off - end of the story. I'd have probably done the same AND I wouldn't have let my 6yo do that in the first place.

shoofly · 19/08/2017 15:22

I wouldn't have moved a pile of stuff either, if the seat was needed for a person fair enough, but surely giraffe was too little for a seat of it's own Wink

IHopeYourCakeIsShit · 19/08/2017 15:23

Weren't you doing the same thing as the child was?
Only she's 6 and was involving her giraffe and you are an adult ?
I think you were being mean for the sake of it.

Sirzy · 19/08/2017 15:24

I was ready to say yabu until I read it was a soft toy that "needed" the chair!

pigsDOfly · 19/08/2017 15:24

I was going to come on here and say that ywbu not to move your stuff when someone needs a seat. But bloody hell, certainly don't think a giraffe's need takes president over coats. Unless it's a real giraffe, in which case, you wouldn't really argue would you.

No you were definitely right not to move your coats. Spoiled children shouldn't get to dictate.

kittybiscuits · 19/08/2017 15:24

Oh you were definitely in the right! Fucking giraffe is using the chair, fuck off lol

This ^. Some parents are just a complete embarrassment.

ChasedByBees · 19/08/2017 15:24

Aww, you expect that the OP should have moved a whole pile of stuff so the other family could use the chair for the same purpose when OP had it first?
