Love it ouais!

I got...

"Stephen Miller did an absolutely horrible job. Stephen Miller should be ashamed of himself."

and

"Sebastian Gorka is a dummy. Just look at Sebastian Gorka's past."

Never a truer word spoken......

I agree with those saying Bannons move is tactical. He's too clever and amoral to do anything less. Though I'm unsure whether it's for his own self preserving ends or to play a long game. I'm a little unerved by those on twitter who are celebrating already. It seems too soon and I reckon Bannon moved to go under the radar.

Important day spent at Camp David with our very talented Generals and military leaders. Many decisions made, including on Afghanistan.

Roussette · 19/08/2017 12:57

There' s a big movement on Twitter for #BoycottMaraLago.

It suggest no more donations to the big list of charities who have fundraisers held there. A third to a half have already pulled out Hit Trump where it hurts - his pocket.

Roussette · 19/08/2017 12:58

I agree TheHerald (and welcome!)

It's a case of 'keep your friends close but your enemies closer'. Who knows what sort of damage he can do on the outside

DoctorTwo · 19/08/2017 13:02

I've been paying attention too. Thank you all for keeping me up to date.

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 19/08/2017 13:04

I think it was on the Slate website that I read a survey that suggested huge numbers of white voters without college degrees believe that white Americans face the most descrimination.
If Trump won first time round because the majority simply don't want to share with minorities then unless the Democrats pull a blinder I can't see how Trump won't win another term. He's gone and locked onto the bit of human nature that just won't go away.
Having said that perhaps the exclusively KFC and pork product based diet will sort the shit storm out. Fingers crossed.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 19/08/2017 13:14

Trump has taken this opportunity to fully and openly reveal himself as a white supremacist
Was it a stupid mistake that will lead to his downfall
Or a carefully chosen manoeuvre?

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 19/08/2017 13:19

*perhaps the exclusively KFC and pork product based diet will sort the shit storm out
Sadly I don't think that would solve anything, if trump pops his clogs he would just leave a vacancy which will draw in someone exactly like him or even worse.
The conditions which called forth the trump presidency and allowed it to continue still exist

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 19/08/2017 13:19

roussette the CNN link is upthread at 8.17.

itwentdownmyhearthole depressingly, I think you're right, and that's without taking into account the gerrymandering and voting suppression. Even now, we have words and not actions from those enabling trump.

And worse yet, they take advantage and carry on quietly, dismantling safeguards and boosting inequality while we all reel from trump's awfulness.

Sessions is proving he’s every bit as awful as we had expected, once again dragging the country backwards.

Nah, Bannon's not rallying the troops for Trump: he's rallying them for himself.

Bannon et al were only ever using Trump as a useful front for their own agenda. They'll continue to pursue that agenda. They'll utter Trump's name in whatever way they think will be useful - to pick up Trump supporters here, or Trump-denouncers there.

This has already started. Look at this interview today - he simultaneously repudiates Trump and claims Trump.

In his Weekly Standard interview, Mr Bannon said: "The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over. We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It'll be something else. And there'll be all kinds of fights, and there'll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over."
He added: "In many ways I think I can be more effective fighting from the outside for the agenda President Trump ran on."

Really fascinating article by Ryan Lizza in the New Yorker on the rise and fall of Steve Bannon. Well worth a read if you have time.

Placwmarking with an explanation of Breitbart and #War for those who missed it.

MicrowaveSpy · 19/08/2017 13:36

Yes Perking. Trump was only ever a useful 'tool' (in every sense of the word!).

Delurking here too. Just wanted to say thanks to the contributors! I've been following these threads on and off since the start (had a few breaks as I find it all quite anxiety-inducing).

I was so very pleased to hear Betsy's brother was excluded from the military meetings.

Trump's twitter picture.

A great, diverse bunch...

Thanks painintheear
I didn't know about the "promote democracy" change he wants to make; that is disappointing.
I guess he was a good political choice re his oil & Russia links - I suspected his friendship with Putin was a shrewd move by his ex-employer to retain their fossil fuels supply & sales stronghold there, but clearly there could have been more to it than that.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 19/08/2017 13:55

Bannon is a slippery, slimy fuck wherever he is. I wouldn't trust him to run a petshop.

University students petition to take back Trump honorary degree:
twitter.com/thehill/status/898883774540378112
Very eloquently put by a former alum of Lehigh. It stands at about 20,000 signatures so far.

lionheart · 19/08/2017 13:59

Hope Hicks certainly loves Trump.
From May 2017:

'President Trump has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people .... He has built great relationships throughout his life and treats everyone with respect. He is brilliant with a great sense of humor … and an amazing ability to make people feel special and aspire to be more than even they thought possible.'

Urgh.

I've considered this overnight and I think - if the ouster is a genuine one - he's Yesterday's Man. It's difficult to overestimate the importance of 'presence' and 'knowledge' in terms of the White House. If he's not there, he'll have neither. At least not in-depth.
