I'm paying attention.

Praying that there are no fatalities and I hope that Trump (and his gang) react/act appropriately.

I hope so too (but already am not disposed to believe what he says when there have been so many times that he's lied) Sad

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/08/2017 07:22

Timely reminder that it's the quite a lot of the Administration that lies

ABC News @ABC
Press Sec. tells @CeciliaVega Pres. Trump "hasn't said" one way or another whether Mexico will pay for border wall.

Hurricane Harvey looks like a huge rain maker.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/08/2017 07:29

I feel like I've been spamming the thread with lots of Abramson threads but he's just producing some right gems atm. Here's another

@SethAbramson
(THREAD) The more one researches the Trump-Flynn nexus, the more it's clear Trump promised Flynn a pardon in an illegal phone call in April.

Am I right in thinking you're meteorogically inclined oybbk?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 25/08/2017 07:44

Keep up with Seth A's threads Pain - they are one of the few things that give me and my DH hope!
Yes OYBBK what's your take on Harvey's likely outcome?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/08/2017 08:10

A really good connecting the dots segment on the Russian hackers/trump connections:

Pattern of hacking preceded attendee of Trump camp Russia meeting

Roussette

Yes, any comparisons with fascism, in particular, were immediately derided. We were called hysterical (or equivalent).

Well... I wish all those pps came back. (do bots ever return, though?)

Meanwhile, "don't think of DJT as the worst President, think of him as the Best Performance as a terrible President"

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2017 08:28

On my hols at the moment, so not too much time for forecasting, but it looks like Harvey will hit land as a cat 3. Main worry will be the huge amount of rain as it looks set to stall over Texas. Louisiana will be badly hit by storm surges and high rainfall.

badbadhusky · 25/08/2017 08:33

Can I just sit quiety amongst friends this morning? Similarly to many remainers re Brexit, I am learning Trump is also an issue where family members views can be diametrically and vocally opposed. Sad I am still too Shock to discuss this further, but I will say that DH and I are thankfully on the same page.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/08/2017 08:39

I found the guardian article about trump voters hard to read for similar reasons bad - it was just too close to home Sad

Sending you strength and persistence Flowers

badbadhusky · 25/08/2017 08:41

Thanks Pain. It makes me really sad.

honeysucklejasmine · 25/08/2017 09:06

bad my Dad said the other day that he thinks the media are really biased against Trump. He knows very little about it so I pointed out some of the main issues with the pathological liar President. But it worries me that he automatically came down on Trump's side.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 25/08/2017 09:18

Bad I have no tips that will help you convince your family members. I am so thankful that all of DH's close family in the States are committed anti-Trumpsters. Here, my own small family group are repulsed by Trump and I'm also fortunate that I work with mostly young (compared to me) liberal Lefties'. But it does mean it's a bit of an echo chamber that I reinforce by coming on these threads!

MalmseyWhine · 25/08/2017 09:41

Have lurked since January but the Shakespeare drew me out.

Thanks to all for the discussion and links. It's very much appreciated.

PlectrumElectrum · 25/08/2017 09:42

Has anyone kept count on the number of trump threads there's been? I didn't join in at the beginning, I think my interest piqued around the time of the inauguration crowds & have kept tags since then. I have to agree that we'd all likely have had the Hmm look from people slowly shuffling away if we'd tried to tell them everything that has happened, would happen.

I think these threads are a great example of the side of social media that's actually important & incredibly useful - a place to group chat, add links & articles & follow developments as & when it all happens. I'd definitely ace a modern studies exam on US politics, the trump presidency & administration & MSM Grin thanks to all of the fantastic contributors to these threads.

Soon time for the next thread - are we sticking with numbering the current thread title or moving onto something else?

orlantina · 25/08/2017 10:07

How not to answer a question:

www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/08/24/press-briefing-press-secretary-sarah-sanders-august-24-2017-6

Q Sarah, the President promised over and over again during the campaign that Mexico would pay for the wall. So why is he now threatening a government shutdown if Congress won’t pay for it?

MS. SANDERS: The President is committed to making sure this gets done. We know that the wall and other security measures at the border work. We’ve seen that take place over the last decade, and we’re committed to making sure the American people are protected. And we’re going to continue to push forward and make sure that the wall gets built.

Matthew.

Q Why is he threatening a shutdown over paying for it? Again, he said over and over again he talked about it in the campaign over and over again. He said Mexico is going to pay for the wall. He asked people and his crowds chanted back at him, Mexico is going to pay for it. And now he’s pushing threatening a shutdown of the government.

MS. SANDERS: Once again, the President is committed to making sure this happens, and we’re going to push forward.

BiglyBadgers · 25/08/2017 11:09

Soon time for the next thread - are we sticking with numbering the current thread title or moving onto something else?

This title is awesome, but I do enjoy the topical new titles every thread. They cheer me up a bit :)

lionheart · 25/08/2017 11:15

Wish I hadn't clicked on that SH link Pain.

So rude and belligerent.

OP posts:
PlectrumElectrum · 25/08/2017 11:16

What about - thread title for this one then : topical comment subheading type deal? Best of both worlds?

We'll all know it's a trump thread from 1st part?

badbadhusky · 25/08/2017 11:18

Perhaps our current thread header could be in the body of the OP each time.

Thanks for the gentle support. The conversation included me being told I'd brainwashed my children because one of my sons referred to DT being impeached at some point. Sad Sad
