To want summer to be over?

Yes, I know I'm BU but I swear I have reverse SAD.

I hate the heat and humidity of the summer - it's either a scorching heatwave where you just sweat uncomfortably wherever you are, or it's pissing down but still hot so you get wet because putting a coat on is not an option.

I hate the lighter mornings because my insomnia gets even worse and I have a lot less sleep meaning I'm generally ratty for 3-4 months.

I hate the volume of people everywhere, the fact that you can't get into places, or onto beaches, and that the traffic increases a million fold so it takes forever to get from A to B. This works in cities with the infrastructure to cope, I do love being in a city and do just fine with the crowds in one, but in a small coastal town? Not so much. I appreciate tourists provide jobs (my own not so long ago) but when you just want to nip to the shop for bread and milk and it takes forever, it starts to drive me potty.

I hate the fact that there's bloody wasps everywhere and the fact that they stung DS on the mouth yesterday so he had to walk round with a cold pack on his lips and looked like he'd done 5 rounds of boxing.

I hate that I feel guilty for not being permanently cheerful because the suns out and have to hide my real feelings about it, which are basically "I hate this relentless sunshine, I want to curl up in the dark in a cold room and not have to go anywhere or see anything that's bright, sunny and lovely".

Yeah I know, I'm a grumpy ungrateful cow and I appreciate there are many (the majority) that enjoy the summer and all it brings, but I'm feeling really fed up and down about the summer like I do every year - I actively dread it in fact - and I can't wait for October/November when I feel happier, get more sleep, eat healthier and can listen to the sounds and smell the aromas that Autumn and winter bring... I can't be the only one, surely?

Bump Grinas I said previously, MIL and I should swap...she's in North Northumberland...I find her weather glorious, whereas she lusts after mine Grin

It IS over, isn't it? Confused Grin

London isn't feeling that summery at the mo, anyway.

StewPots · 14/08/2017 11:51

Coastal yeah what's up with that?? I left school in 2000 but I still can't resist getting new notepads and stationary treats years later (although very handy for work so I have a good excuse) Grin

I'm a Northerner. YADNBU.

Fintress · 14/08/2017 11:51

Come up to Scotland...every season has been exactly the same this year, cold, grey and wet

This! Especially the far north. Crap weather 99% of the time. 16C is tshirt weather here.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 14/08/2017 11:52

I hate hot and humid weather too but fortunately there's little of that in this country. There was that 5-7 day heatwave earlier in the year (July?). I'm in SW and I'm not sure I've had that since then.

Whereabouts do you live? I certainly frequently find London intolerable in the summer and avoid going there for work as much as I can then.

YABU about getting wet though - get a lightweight coat/pack-a-mac/umbrella.

YABU about living in a touristy area and hating tourists. I am equally U on that front but I don't pretend I'm not! Unless you live in Cornwall and your life is ruined for ten weeks, in which case you have my sympathy and apologies.

StewPots · 14/08/2017 11:53

Sapphire It's pretty full on down here in SW UK. It's not been as hot as earlier on in the year but school holidays mean it's just as busy.

But that's fine as it drives our local economy so I don't mind that as much, but our pavements often mean single file so I spend the majority of the year walking in the road Grin

Yanbu... we should be friends! I feel exactly the same!

OnionKnight · 14/08/2017 11:55

What fucking summer? Grin

Pongo I'm in the South West of the UK. Not extremely hot by any means compared to abroad but some days we do have it hotter than destinations overseas down here.

Most of Europe, apart from the UK of course has had a scorching heatwave for the last 2 - 3 weeks.

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/08/2017 11:55

Move here, OP, it's freezing and lashing down.

MerlinsLeftButtock · 14/08/2017 11:55

I am so with you. Well, I'm not that against nice days. I love a BBQ etc. But I am so much more comfortable in the colder months. I love Halloween and bonfire night. And absolutely adore the Christmas times. The autumn smells are wonderful. I love the change of the leaves. I love crispy grass. And wintery meals. Also, I'm due my second baby in December so I'm looking forward to it even more this year. It's just a more exciting time of year ....

unweavedrainbow · 14/08/2017 11:56

For people who are asking where it is "hot", in Southampton, where I am, it's currently 22 C and will be round about 20ish for at least the next few weeks. That must be at least "very warm" in most people's books?

StewPots · 14/08/2017 11:57

Snork SW too... a very popular place linked with a famous author!

It does drive me mad in summer but I understand tourism drives the local economy and enables everyone to get through winter so I kind of let that one go...although in my head I'm screaming because I just want to get to where I'm going quickly and without fuss. To be fair doesn't help our infrastructure isn't designed to cope with the population increase - well done our local council on that one Hmm

I remember how hot it was in Jul, yes...I spent the time I wasn't sweating in work sat at home with curtains drawn, cooling spray and a fan on!

scampimom · 14/08/2017 11:58

YANBU. I hate being too hot, and being sweaty, and having to keep all the fuzz under control. I LOVE fluffy blankies, hot chocolate, dinners with gravy, fuzzy socks and jim jams, watching a film cuddled up on the sofa while the grey rain lashes down outside -mmmm bliss!

StewPots · 14/08/2017 11:58

Onion Grin and yes I saw the "Lucifer" heatwave coverage and thought "yep, that's my idea of absolute hell, glad I'm not there" whilst MIL was probably trying to book flights Grin

I love the light mornings and evenings but don't like excessive heat. Yesterday in the South was perfect - around 20, very light breeze, blue sky. I hate, hate, hate the dark mornings in winter.

There is no law which says you have to eat salads and cold food in the summer and hearty dishes in the winter! We eat the same food all year round, and would never have cold food as a main meal.

userofthiswebsite · 14/08/2017 12:00

I am not that keen on temperatures over 24 degrees as I don't tolerate heat well but am not wishing the summer over purely because even here in London it's not been hot of late, mostly about 20/21 I think which is perfect for me to go out in a t-shirt without feeling cold or hot. I love weather like this. Long may it stay. I'm all about average temperatures.

StewPots · 14/08/2017 12:01

Milk for some reason I just can't deal with eating hot food when it's hot. As I've said before I'm a very strange person Grin

OP posts:
StewPots · 14/08/2017 12:02

Scampi person after my own heart there!

PansyParkinson · 14/08/2017 12:06

YANBU! I could have written that post myself!
My favourite time of year is October to December. I absolutely hate summer. I'm pale and freckly so if we do get any sun, I'm no good in it. I can't stand heat. I'm just not made for it. I get horrific hay fever. I just hate it.
I absolutely love when it gets dark at 4.30pm and I can get home, get the fire on and feel all cosy. I love winter clothes and going out in the freezing cold all bundled up. My sister and I both have our birthdays in October, then I love bonfire night and I'm a huge Christmas fan so just love the whole lead up in December.
Ooh I'm all excited now!!

CanIHaveChocolatePlease · 14/08/2017 12:06

YANBU-I hate the summer months even though thankfully we don't get much of a summer here in Ireland and always look forward to the autumn and winter months, for their weather as well as the events and times associated with them Smile

Time40 · 14/08/2017 12:07

OP, get yourself a blackout for the windows in the summer - you will sleep much better. I did that for the first time this year, and it makes a massive difference.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 14/08/2017 12:07

@StewPots I lived in Bath for a while. Loved it and would happily go back if work panned out. Pushchairs in the city centre in the summer were a no-no though! And the groups of language students Shock. Even though two of my close friends worked in language schools and got paid for putting them up Wink.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 14/08/2017 12:08

Agree re proper blackout curtains too - I have blinds but need to get proper lined blackout curtains as I never sleep well in the summer.
