To think that the dull get too many advantages..

Just that really, I just feel that sometimes everything feels like it set up to help the dull.. Hang around for ages and you get promoted, don't have any interests or a social life, get a great credit rating, stay in one house for years and all the banks trust you, don't ever stick out, don't ever get hassled etc etc etc. .

Free spirits like you should get all the breaks, op. Never mind the toad, work.

elephant I did suggest on page 2 that RL help would be good but I think she enjoys the attention.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 13/08/2017 00:02

I'm interesting as fuck and it's got me nowhere in life.

Lou898 · 13/08/2017 00:04

You say she's boring but actually happy and yet you're not....seems one person is enjoying life just because it's not your way doesn't mean it's wrong. It wouldn't do for us all to be the same. Enjoy and concentrate on your own life, stop worrying about someone who clearly doesn't give a damn.

ManyManyShoes · 13/08/2017 00:04

OP has such a black and white outlook. I'm dull based on your criteria because i have some money, stability, a desk job, and drive an old car. But I certainly question things sometimes and follow the rules sensibly because that's what adults do!, am sensible with my spending but I travel a lot as well. Point is people can have stability but not 'dull' as your label. You sound very jealous tbh.

BenLui · 13/08/2017 00:06

For someone with "unfettered imagination" you do seem overly focused on what other people are doing.

The people I know who are actually extremely imaginative and creative don't sit around moaning about other people and spouting castles in the air. They make plans and actually make their dreams come true.

IKnewItWasBullshitAllAlong · 13/08/2017 00:07

OP, do you have ADHD?

scaryclown · 13/08/2017 00:08

No, but a lot of people have BBS

It sounds as if you are a spontaneous, instant gratification type that just can't see the contentment and security that a more ordinary life brings. It suggests to me that you have complete disregard for those 'dullards' who are probably quite happy right now with their lives, and don't give a flying monkey about how bored you are.

I have gone from living it up to a quiet contented, predictable lifestyle and it is bliss. I have never woken up so happy and grateful.

Maybe you can try and understand that even if that's not the way you choose to live your life.

Wheelycote · 13/08/2017 00:12

If this is for real.....then what I'm hearing...is that you resent people

Who are steadfast?
Perhaps organised?
Good with money?

I also hear you generalising....

Stop looking at other people's lives and focus on your own. All this energy wasted on others....is silly.

This ultimately sounds like whining....if it really is for real.

FYI not a Tory person, moved a gazillion times, took 10years to put credit rating right. Have / had a family life that would make 'long lost family' tremble....ive found 6 family members over the years as were spread far and wide....have a gran who has made news for terrible things. My life certainly hasn't, isn't and unfortunately shall never be dull.
HOWEVER I do need to put a roof over my kids heads and plan Christmas etc which means I gotta work, be organised and provide stability for them. To someone like you I probably look dull....which makes me smileSmile

BlondeB83 · 13/08/2017 00:13

Read The Remains of the Day scaryclown and it may prompt you to do the things you want to do!

As much as people struggle to see your perspective, I do understand where you're coming from but you have to make things happen for yourself! Start small if you don't have much capital, take the cheapest train to Edinburgh and get a hostel etc. etc. I've spent thousands over the years being spontaneous! No pockets in shrouds!

TmiTuesdays · 13/08/2017 00:14

So... basically "WHY won't people pay me to be the uniquest and most specialist person in the world, cos I'm such a mad free spirit (no, really, I'm just soo CRAZY, everybody look at meeeeeeee)?!"

That would be nice wouldn't it? You're either stoned, mentally unbalanced or an absolute dick to be around. Possibly more than one of those.

BlondeB83 · 13/08/2017 00:14

I certainly don't think resenting others is the way forward though, live the life you want to live but within your means.

ManyManyShoes · 13/08/2017 00:18

I bet there is also a 'dull' IT guy working for mumsnet whose boring job enables you to whine here, OP.

IKnewItWasBullshitAllAlong · 13/08/2017 00:19

whats bbs?

I have ADHD and "recognise" you, that's all.

hedgebitch · 13/08/2017 00:21

Imagine unexpectedly finding Will Self in you. Bleeee.

arkestra · 13/08/2017 00:22

It's about reaching an accommodation with yourself, getting a style that works for you.

For instance, I am not very good at staying in one place - I get bored very easily. So I've gone into a field where you can move around without killing your career, been at about 10 different places in 20 years, and have done fine, no regrets.

I have friends who've stuck at one place and are doing materially way better than me, but I don't envy them - what would be the point? I couldn't do what they're doing anyway.

The main thing is to get something together that aligns with your character and makes you feel happy. We're hardwired to think in terms of status comparisons vs others so it takes a lot of effort doing that, but it's well worth it to avoid getting depressed and dragged down over something you will never be able to fix.

In any case, people who like routine and stability are useful and valuable, necessary even. I'm not one of them, but I don't see any point in looking down on them.

MessyJoes · 13/08/2017 00:24

I think we've all missed the point here. The clue is in the name.

OP is here to entertain us (clown) but not as your typical happy go lucky fun clown, OP is the society hating, ranting (scary)clown.

ExplodedCloud · 13/08/2017 00:24

Iirc scary has had repeated problems with management failing to appreciate her better ways of working leading to her being hounded out of jobs. She is by her own admission much cleverer than them.

steff13 · 13/08/2017 00:26

OP, are you the poster who was upset your parents are leaving their money to your sister's kids?

Crumbs1 · 13/08/2017 00:27

I don't know what BBS is. I think (as a senior manager) that there is certainly a place for steadfast, reliable and loyal employees whose skills should not be overlooked or diminished by the whizzy bright young things who flit through the organisation and expect the world to revolve around themselves.
Dull is very subjective. I'm not into, geology particularly but can see that fossils that predate the surrounding rock hold a certain fascination for some. Doesmake them dull - in fact the opposite- but doesn't do it for me. Are they of lesser value to the world? Certainly not.
You, my dear, need to get over yourself or explain coherently what makes you so special.

jacks11 · 13/08/2017 00:27

YABU

Who are you to decide what is "exciting" and what is "dull"? What made you so very special as to be the sole adjudicator of who is "worthy" of promotions and how much someone should be paid?

I think you sound like very pretentious, patronising and self-obsessed. And more than a bit self-satisfied. Your contempt for others who are different from you is quite unpleasant. Although, I wonder if you really are as exciting as you think you are? I've met a few people whose tone has been similar to yours, who have also imagined themselves to be very creative, imaginative, dynamic and original people, who are so very "interesting". In reality, they were pretentious, smug idiots, who imagined themselves to be far more interesting to everyone around them than they really were.

Not everyone can be the same- it would be boring if we were. So you partied with Kylie? If you enjoyed it, that's great. I don't think it makes you particularly special or interesting to everyone else. Others would disagree- neither would be wrong, just demonstrates different interests.

I would say if you have so many wonderful "exciting" ideas, then get on with making them a reality. Stop moaning and start achieving everything you are raving about. What's stopping you leaving the boring, provincial town with the "friends" and acquaintances who bore you so much? I mean, if you are so dynamic, interesting and talented, it should be easy for you to move things forward.

Frankly, I think you should focus on yourself and worry less about others. Decide what you want to do/what will make you happy and work towards that. Forget all this crap about being better than others- my grandfather used to say "be careful who you stomp all over on your way up, because you'll definitely meet them if you are ever on the way down and you never know who might climb higher than you".

Not only that, if you are planning to rely on others to work for you, you might find the "dull" people won't do the essential work the renumeration that you deem they require "to live their dull lives". That's fine if it's something you have the knowledge and skill required to do yourself, but what happens if you don't? And if you're trying to sell something to the public, then being so contemptuous of others not as "creative" as yourself may not be the best marketing strategy....

rainbowpie · 13/08/2017 00:30

DH and I felt really spontaneous tonight because we decided that we didn't actually fancy an omelettes for dinner so we drove to Harvester instead. Totally unplanned! We thought we were all in for the night but no! I was already in my pjs. We felt really naughty.

I chuffing love being a massive dullard and I love my dull, crouton-gobbling husband. May you one day be as happy as I am OP!
