To be worried about the future of WOMEN'S athletics

TeamCersei · 11/08/2017 22:30

Just that really.

I've been avidly following the athletics and have noticed that at least two countries where the competitors are, how can I say this tactfully,? Are of dubious gender. Hmm
and guess what. They win the races. Every time.

How can women compete against this?
How is it fair?

I'm prepared to get my arse handed on a plate but I don't care.
I think this needs to be discussed.
God only knows how it feels from a competitor's point of view.
No matter how hard you train, the best woman can't hope to win against'men'

You are totally spot on. It's completely unfair. However it seems to be one of those issues that womem are not allowed to debate without being called a bigot.

TeamCersei · 11/08/2017 22:32

Okay.

YANBU.

It is the death of women's athletics.

Backingvocals · 11/08/2017 22:36

Of course yanbu. Discourse on this is very weird. How this very small group of men hijacked the definitions of male and female so that we now can't speak about it without being accused of bigotry I do not know.

busyboysmum · 11/08/2017 22:36

Also all women's sports. Imagine competing as a woman in weightlifting for example against someone born a man?

Backingvocals · 11/08/2017 22:37

And that Guardian piece was a disgrace. Attempted murder but the athletics people were being mean so it was fair enough Hmm

busyboysmum · 11/08/2017 22:38

Yes strangely she had dominated fell running. Wonder what gave her the advantage? Hmmmm.....

It is not a small group. It is not about males who get surgery, not even about males who just identify their way into women's spaces. They are supported by lots of MRAs

And of course lots of female handmaidens, who may or may not identify as some sort of genderqueer themselves.

CurbsideProphet · 11/08/2017 22:41

YANBU. It seems that a biological male can decide he identifies as a woman and we have to go along with it, or else be called a trans hater/bigot etc.

TeamCersei · 11/08/2017 22:41

I don't mind being told I am being unreasonable.

But it's a bit concerning when you watch a women's race starting and you can say with certainty which competitors will win the race.
If I were a betting person I would make a lot of money.
The South African person I said would win, Won.
The Kenyan person I said would win, Won.
I based my predictions purely on their male physicality.
Sadly I was right.

I think this is one of those issues that is being swept under the carpet because, to say that there is a problem, is inconsistent with the idea that everyone is equal, etc.

To me, as a mother of a girl, it is really worrying.

FEMALE ATHLETES CRUSHED BY 'WOMEN WHO WERE ONCE MEN' Transgenders dominate in weightlifting, track, wrestling, football, basketball, mixed martial arts

Interesting article here: mobile.wnd.com/2017/03/female-athletes-crushed-by-women-who-were-once-men/

Terfing · 11/08/2017 22:44

Sport should be segregated by biological sex, not gender or personality.

YANBU

Sadly, people don't care about women's sport

Notcontent · 11/08/2017 22:45

I agree with you Team. Because while men and women should have equal rights, physically we are a bit different. Which is why men and women compete separately in sport - otherwise in most sports men would always win.

I have to hand it to the losers.
They are very gracious in defeat. They go over to the 'winner' and shake 'her' hand and do the 'right' thing.
But, I wonder what's really going through her mind?

''no matter how hard I train, the odds are stacked against me. But I mustn't say anything otherwise I will be called a bigot'. I have to suck it up in front of the cameras''
Sad

If you are referring to Caster Semenya, Margaret Woambui, Francine Niyonsaba they are believed to be intersex, which is very different from transgender (as most of you keep mentioning a transgender athlete).

This is an interesting article www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2017/08/11/intersex-athletes-learn-will-forced-take-drugs-suppress-testosterone/

I also read that intersex athletes (most of whom have come from developing countries) tend towards the 800metres as the sprints are more reliant on technique rather than basic strength and thus favour western athletes with access to specialist training facilities

sooperdooper · 11/08/2017 22:51

Yanbu it's bullshit I can't be more eloquent right now

TeamCersei · 11/08/2017 22:54

If you are referring to Caster Semenya, Margaret Woambui, Francine Niyonsaba they are believed to be intersex, which is very different from transgender (as most of you keep mentioning a transgender athlete).

But they automatically have an unfair advantage.
It's been proven that men have certain traits that give them an unfair advantage over women when it comes to running. Longer thigh bones, narrower pelvis,.

If they are 'intersex' why not compete in the men's?
why compete in the womens?
Why leech onto the women's section.
Probably because they know they can beat all the women.

OP posts:
TeamCersei · 11/08/2017 22:57

I'll say it again.
A woman can train and train and train,
she still won't beat someone who has predominately male characteristics.

Intersex people have an unfair advantage and they shouldn't be competing in women's athletics.
