AIBU to be excited it's nearly Autumn

Hello all, new to Mumsnet and not sure if this post is in the appropriate place? Sorry if not...

Anyway, was having a discussion with the ladies at work about how the tree leaves are already starting to change colour. The nights are slowly drawing back in and it feels cooler (although it seems to have warmed up again today).

This got me feeling excited as I absolutely love autumn and the '...ber' months!

Apart from one colleague who feels the same, the others think I'm strange for loving Autumn!

Anyone else? :D

Autumn is so cosy and starting to wear warmer clothes is always lovely! There are no expectations on the weather so those random warm september days are such a bonus. Love Autumn and it has Halloween too !

CockacidalManiac · 10/08/2017 22:41

I hate Autumn. Fucking big house spiders everywhere, from the end of August until November.

Themostannoyingperson · 10/08/2017 22:49

YABU. I am on summer holidays. Everyone tells me I am soooo lucking having six weeks ( 5.3 actually) off in the most expensive, crowded month of the year. So I need to appreciate it.
I love long evenings
I love washing that dries outside
I love a pretty garden with colour
I love the smell of food cooked outdoors
I love wearing a vest top, shorts and sandals (£15 all in) rather than Boots, Skirt/Dress, Tights, Under garment, Jumper, Warm Coat ( £150)

Autumn is shit. It's pre winter. Which is hard bloody work.

Topseyt · 10/08/2017 22:49

August is waaaay too soon for autumn as far as I am concerned. I don't even go on my summer holiday for another week and a bit yet.

Also, the massive spiders that emerge in autumn can fuck right off.

Cailleach666 · 10/08/2017 22:49

Spiders are welcome in my house. I have two big ones in my sitting room atm and as I lie in bed there is a monster in the corner of my bedroom wall.
In any home there will always be hundreds of spiders.

Ellapaella · 10/08/2017 22:52

I love Autumn however the reality is that August weather is mostly shit and we all get excited about autumn and winter rolling in then the sun makes a come back in September and we all bask in glorious sunshine until mid October.

splendidglenda · 10/08/2017 22:56

I absolutely love late summer and early autumn. The smell of bonfires and the different coloured leaves. Gorgeous

Themostannoyingperson · 10/08/2017 22:57

Autumn has that horrid early morning sun that blinds you on the way to work.
Autumn has freezing mornings and sunny afternoons which mean you are too hot or cold and all day
Autumn is all Hallowen until the second week of October and then it's all Christmas, August has no hard sell.

CockacidalManiac · 10/08/2017 22:58

Bully for you.

Another one who, loves autumn!! For me September has always been a month of new beginnings - new school term, new shiny stationery (sorry I'm a stationery geek) and new and exciting things to learn. Then there's the leave changing colour and that beautiful light we get, the surprise of a few warm days that we never get in summer and cosines and soup and cuddling up with the dogs and the kids on the sofa after school. For me the ultimate beginning of autumn is the first time I wear my Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay perfume and light a woody candle instead of florals.

I love it and I can't wait. Bring it on.

🍂

ImLizawithaZ · 10/08/2017 23:07

It's my favourite season too Smile

golfin · 10/08/2017 23:11

Let's hope it's a lovely autumn this year, a magical, special one. Smile

Marymoosmum14 · 10/08/2017 23:22

I love Autumn and Winter. Don't mind spring too much but don't really like summer too much, as I suffer from hay fever so I cant enjoy it and cant sleep. All the best stuff is in Autumn/winter Halloween, Christmas, New Year, my Birthday 😁 love it. YANBU!

Themostannoyingperson · 10/08/2017 23:23

You are all stupid.
September is Indiam Summer. Make the most of it.
Autumn can start when the clocks go back.
You the have a few weeks until " Christmas".
January is birthday month and you can all do city breaks to warmer (better sales) in Europe like me.
February you can ski and the we can do " waiting for summer" March/ April usually has a few warm sunny days. By May we are back to summer.

Themostannoyingperson · 10/08/2017 23:29

And September every road within a 3 mile radius of an educational establishment is absolutely choked an hour from 8am to 4pm.
Enjoy the August freedom people.

ADayGivingMeHope · 10/08/2017 23:32

😱 😨 😭 😖
Go away now op.
I am already waiting for next summer! 😂
lighthearted

Themostannoyingperson · 10/08/2017 23:34

Candles give you all sorts. Fresh air is much better
Autumn gives you SAD
Pens , school shoes and uniform are available all year round.

NeverEnoughSleep1 · 10/08/2017 23:36

I would say YABU I love summer but this is not summer and feels so awkward and in between so I'd rather it just be autumn and there be an excuse for this miserable weather

Rossigigi · 10/08/2017 23:42

another autumn lover here. Dark evenings are the best.

ticketytock1 · 10/08/2017 23:48

Yanbu
I can't wait for it to be cold and dark. I love closing the door to the world, all the blinds and curtains and blasting the heating. I love wearing loads of layers and cuddling up having lazy days because it's too miserable to go out.
Summer exhausts me in the end... so much pressure to go out and make the most of the sunshine... kids rapping the door constantly to play with dd and a garden full of kids... by end of August I'm like fuck off and leave us alone, you've been on my trampoline, eating my food since fucking April!
Love love love winter!

Fantasticmissfoxy · 10/08/2017 23:53

Yup me too 😊 I'm Scottish and definitely feel happiest in a good jersey - none of this 'strappy' nonsense Summer calls for!

Themostannoyingperson · 10/08/2017 23:59

Dark evenings are lovely but only if you don't live in the UK
You need to wear high vis from 4pm onwards from September you are asking for trouble.
Under 12's should be in by 6 because it's not the summer
Under 16's need to be in by 9pm because it's not the summer
Over 18'ds to be waiting/bar staff because that's when they need to start working.
Hate September.

ethelfleda · 11/08/2017 00:01

I am so with you on this OP!! Until last year, summer was always my favourite season but last Autumn was so glorious that I cannot wait for this autumn. I want to light the fire and draw the curtains and light candles and listen to chill out music while it's cold outside. I want to get all my jumpers out and go for walks through autumn leaves with DH. I want some frosty mornings and love bonfire night and Halloween and cosy nights in and cooking comfort food and drinking hot chocolate...

I'm going off on one here.... Smile

LeMesmer · 11/08/2017 00:06

I love every season as they come along, ( yes I know, but I do). I love autumn, the changing colours of the leaves when they fall. DS going back to school (for him), the feeling of another summer over and looking forward to the next on one. I love it when winter starts, all wrapped up looking forward to Christmas. When spring comes I have had enough of the cold and i enjoy seeing the leaves come back on the trees. I look forward to summer. Summer comes and we have our holiday and for a couple of months we live a far more relaxed life. And once again it is Autumn....

Yes I know you are all Envy (not envy), but indulge me a little...

toffee1000 · 11/08/2017 00:22

Maybe I just don't get the appeal of cold, dark, grey, rain. Wrapping yourself up in thick jumpers and blankets with mugs of hot chocolate, sure, that's good, but autumn and winter last for so damn long it must get boring after a while surely? And then when summer weather DOES arrive people post on MN wishing it all away again!!
