AIBU to be excited it's nearly Autumn

Hello all, new to Mumsnet and not sure if this post is in the appropriate place? Sorry if not...

Anyway, was having a discussion with the ladies at work about how the tree leaves are already starting to change colour. The nights are slowly drawing back in and it feels cooler (although it seems to have warmed up again today).

This got me feeling excited as I absolutely love autumn and the '...ber' months!

Apart from one colleague who feels the same, the others think I'm strange for loving Autumn!

Anyone else? :D

So the old mid winter festivals and midsummer festivals are actually start of summer start of winter festivals elsewhere. Good to know.

Pombliboo123 · 10/08/2017 19:04

There is nothing like autumn in London. Love it !!

PerpetualStudent · 10/08/2017 19:07

I flipping love autumn! Crisp clear days, boots and scarfs...
I'm going to be on maternity leave this autumn, planning on lots of bracing pram walks round the local park and seasonally-flavoured coffees in cosy cafes with snuggly newborn in tow Grin

Love Autumn but kept it a secret for most of my life; being surrounded by summer worshipping friends and family! Finally feel confident enough to stand my ground in an argument about why it's the best 🍁🍂 Bloody love it!

Norfolkbumpkin · 10/08/2017 19:08

Big Autumn fan here, I love the colours of the leaves/tree bark/berries, the beautiful sunsets and the pleasant warmth (rather than the sticky and sweltering heat of summer) Smile

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 10/08/2017 19:09

I too love autumn, I do get a little mardy when I have to give up my flip flops though...

justpoppingby · 10/08/2017 19:09

I do enjoy summer but autumn is by far my favourite season, low sunsets, warm crisp days, leaves turning golden etc, and it has my birthday in 😊

toffee1000 · 10/08/2017 19:09

Sometimes I feel like MNers have some kind of fantasy idea about what autumn is like. I've never experienced anything like what people describe. It's all rain and grey skies and cold. And goes on for-bloody-ever. It's miserable.

Cailleach666 · 10/08/2017 19:18

No fantasy here- I adore Autumn, I live surrounded by ancient woodland, so watching the changing colours is spectacular.
I love the long shadows and golden sun of autumn, adore Halloween, a huge thing in our village, I decorate the house, bake and cook, I love the bonfires, the start of cosiness, conkers and brambles, and the fresh autumn air.
I love all seasons, but especially Autumn, there is a crackle of magic in the air.

Oogle · 10/08/2017 19:18

I love all the seasons. I always find that as one season comes to a close, I'm hankering for the next.

Bringonthegin · 10/08/2017 19:21

I absolutely love autumn (& spring), so no YANBU!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/08/2017 19:21

I love all the seasons as they come round, so yes I'm looking forward to autumn too.

I've never really thought about the ....ber months all being in a row at the end of the year! How dopey.

Cailleach666 · 10/08/2017 19:22

toffee- the magic is there if you look.

pigsDOfly · 10/08/2017 19:23

I can't wait for Autumn to properly kick in so I can legitimately put my heating on in the evenings.

Recently I'v been sitting in my house most evenings with about 3 jumpers on considering whether I'd be completely unreasonable to put the heating on - just in the living room - in the early part of August. I've managed to resist so far, but it's been a horrible summer in my part of the country, it's cold and rainy. Autumn can't be much worse, so for the central heating alone I'm quite looking forward to it.

Pombliboo123 · 10/08/2017 19:25

I also feel like everything feels more exciting in autumn/winter...

I was going to try and explain further but it made me sound bat shit

liquidrevolution · 10/08/2017 19:26

Autumn is my favourite, followed by winter, spring then summer last. I can't bloody wait. So will follow the gaelic calender.

Am a 1/4 irish after all Grin

demirose87 · 10/08/2017 19:26

Love autumn and hate summer. This summer has been a real struggle for me as I'm 8 months pregnant and trying to occupy my other kids every day of the holidays. I love when the nights draw in and I get that cosy feeling all snuggled up inside with DP and the excitement of Halloween and Christmas not too far away. The tv is always better around Autumn/ Winter too.

Cary2012 · 10/08/2017 19:31

I love Autumn too! I have a wood burner! I luff my wood burner very much and can't wait until it's chilly enough to light it.

Kursk · 10/08/2017 19:45

I like all seasons, but I do like fall

toffee1000 · 10/08/2017 19:47

I'm in London so I suppose things would be different elsewhere. It's just constant crap weather (how anyone likes rain is a mystery to me!!) and grey skies and cold. It also goes on for ever and ever. Christmas is just one day. The post Christmas and early January period is always so dull and depressing. But then that's winter so different season...

Daffodils07 · 10/08/2017 19:50

I love spring and autumn, love watching the change in the wildlife and how the leaves fall or start to form.
Makes me always appreciate how beautiful the world can be.

Cailleach666 · 10/08/2017 19:53

toffee

But surely even in London you have green spaces, trees, have frost, watch migrating geese, celebrate Halloween, bonfire night etc.

Cailleach666 · 10/08/2017 19:53

*Christmas is just one day.

Christmas lasts a month in our house.

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 10/08/2017 19:54

It's my favourite season too. The leaves turning, all the colours, the beautiful blue skies and warm weather but not too hot. Hedgerows dripping with nice juicy blackberries.
