AIBU to be excited it's nearly Autumn

Hello all, new to Mumsnet and not sure if this post is in the appropriate place? Sorry if not...

Anyway, was having a discussion with the ladies at work about how the tree leaves are already starting to change colour. The nights are slowly drawing back in and it feels cooler (although it seems to have warmed up again today).

This got me feeling excited as I absolutely love autumn and the '...ber' months!

Apart from one colleague who feels the same, the others think I'm strange for loving Autumn!

Anyone else? :D

Me!! I love Autumn and Winter ❤️

Ellieboolou27 · 10/08/2017 19:58

Reasons I love autumn

  • I can sleep properly at night not sweaty and sticky
  • Can cover my fat bits which is much harder in summer
  • I can get the kids to bed that bit earlier as it's dark outside
  • Eating muffins and crumpets with butter so thick it leaves teeth marks tastes so much better in autumn
  • the dreaded school summer holidays are behind me Grin
  • Irish coffees in pubs next to open fires
  • oh yeah I like the colour changes, low morning sunshine that forces you to ware sunglasses when it's chilly outside and putting my dressing gown and slippers on on at 7pm whilst not feeling guilty

Whatever you feel about the seasons YABU in wishing time away. Enjoy now, for heaven's sake!

Unicorn81 · 10/08/2017 20:04

To Autumn by John Keats;

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells.
Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reap'd furrow sound asleep,
Drows'd with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cider-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,–
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

I don't think being excited about a future event is "wishing your life away".

It is possible to enjoy the present and be excited about the future.

cardibach-
Have you never looked forward to a future event? A wedding? A baby?
A party or holiday or event?

Do you always live in the present?

I can easily enjoy the present, think back of fond past times, and look forward to the future.
Just part of how us humans think.

Me!

We have just got home after almost a month in the states where it was blisteringly hot. The weather here is utterly pants and I feel pretty hopeless about summery weather returning. Now I want crisp autumnal days and an excuse to light the woodburner. I also much prefer winter clothes!

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 10/08/2017 20:09

One of these MN autumn threads was responsible for me getting a cat about five years ago. Someone said they loved smelling the woodsmoke on the cat's fur on autumn evenings and I rang up the Blue Cross the next day. DCat came to live with us soon after and now I sniff him to my heart's content Smile

CbeebiesAddict · 10/08/2017 20:09

Autumn is the best! Crisp and cool, can start to wear nice clothes again. Crumbles and pies with custard. Strictly come dancing and the run up to Christmas :)

MrsCharlieD · 10/08/2017 20:12

Love autumn when you feel that change in the air and the trees turning orange. I'm a huge fan of Halloween, cuddling up with a hot drink and the telly when it's dark outside and I'll be on mat leave with a squishy new born in October so even more reason to look forward to it this year. I can't bloody wait.

theymademejoin · 10/08/2017 20:12

I'm with you Commonsense. And the proof of it is in the Irish words for September and October, which mean middle harvest and end of harvest, and the word for autumn is fomhar which means harvest.

summerlavender · 10/08/2017 20:12

I know it is a common whinge but I do feel we haven't really had a summer.

Argeles · 10/08/2017 20:12

It's my favourite season, and I cannot wait for it to begin!

I've been so excited over the last few days looking at my autumnal clothes and lipsticks, and researching the new season's fashion and make up trends.

I'm sick of all the Summer things all the shops are desperately trying to sell, and can't wait for the all out Autumnal fashion to arrive - not that I'll have much money to spend though Angry.

ranoutofusernameideas · 10/08/2017 20:12

Autumn is my favourite, lots of exciting things to look forward to, summer is normally a disappointment!

mrsRosaPimento · 10/08/2017 20:13

Yes. Wet leaves feel like dog poop

sproutish · 10/08/2017 20:37

You are not alone OP! Although I'm a little biased towards rain and a bit of misery weather wise because I'm a typical sun fearing ginger Grin
Halloween, bonfires, the annual funfair in my hometown, Christmas lights coming on... give me Autumn/Winter year round please!

Brittbugs80 · 10/08/2017 20:39

September to end of January are my favourite months. Absolutely love them.

And that feeling when you first notice the change in the light!

Our calender is already filling up for December.

People don't understand it but the way I look at it is everyone expects warm.weather the rest.of the year and often, it doesn't work out like that and so you end up disappointed and fed up. In the later part of the year, you expect rubbish weather and we get it!

I love sunny frosty days, long walks in the cold, warm living room under blankets with books, films and Jigsaws and mulled wine.

Yep, I'm an Autumn/Winter person.

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 10/08/2017 20:39

Not unreasonable, love autumn

Teaandbiscuits88 · 10/08/2017 20:41

I love autumn and winter! Definitely my favourite seasons. I can't wait for the darker evenings, chilly mornings and all the seasonal bits and bobs!!

Dustbunny1900 · 10/08/2017 20:43

Right there with you!! August is the longest month of the year! Come on let's get on with it so we can have have beautiful colors, crisp air, pumpkins and apples, Halloween decorations, sweaters, I could really go all day long with these.
I feel reborn when fall hits. Plus I live in one of the Halloween capitals of the world and it's gorgeous here

jelliebelly · 10/08/2017 20:43

YANBU I bloody love Autumn

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/08/2017 20:44

Not at all. Autumn is my favourite season.

Elland · 10/08/2017 20:50

Another who can't wait! Dark evenings where I can get home put my pyjamas on and be cosy infront of the fire! Oh I love it!

dementedma · 10/08/2017 20:54

I love autumn too but we just havent had a summer here in Scotland at all , just endless rain. So depressing ...

HunterofStars · 10/08/2017 20:59

Autumn is my favourite. I love bonfires, knitwear, boots, eating stews and drinking hot chocolate. It felt very autumnal yesterday and this morning was quite chilly.
