AIBU to be excited it's nearly Autumn

Hello all, new to Mumsnet and not sure if this post is in the appropriate place? Sorry if not...

Anyway, was having a discussion with the ladies at work about how the tree leaves are already starting to change colour. The nights are slowly drawing back in and it feels cooler (although it seems to have warmed up again today).

This got me feeling excited as I absolutely love autumn and the '...ber' months!

Apart from one colleague who feels the same, the others think I'm strange for loving Autumn!

Anyone else? :D

I know I am in the minority but Winter is the best. Just wish we had more snow!

user53592952153 · 10/08/2017 21:07

It's still summer until the 3rd week of September, that said the leaf blower man from the council was out clearing leaves today Shock

I like autumn if it's hot and sunny but not when I have to put the heating on as I can't afford it.

Coconutspongexo · 10/08/2017 21:08

I'd also love snowy winters

Elland · 10/08/2017 21:12

I love the real crisp clear mornings which we get around November time ❤️

BeALert · 10/08/2017 21:49

I'm in New England so autumn is beautiful.

Let's not even mention winter.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 10/08/2017 22:04

I adore autumn. Frosty mornings giving way to warm breezy days, clear starry skies, kicking through leaves. Lovely.

Early spring is fabulous as well - the first time you smell it in the air, that smell of earth, before a single leaf is out. The leaf buds and blossoms just appearing. Then it goes hot and gets spoiled Sad

New England is next on our list to visit. Desperate to go back to NY but I want to see many parts of New England too.

cardibach · 10/08/2017 22:16

Cailleach of course I have! This isn't an event though. It's a part of the year which happens every year. It's a bit different from anticipating a one off event.

oldlaundbooth · 10/08/2017 22:17

Bloody love it.

Apples, pumpkins, leaves a fallin', stews à cookin' Grin Best season ever. Boots, jackets, cosiness etc etc.

Bittersweet though because after Autumn comes Winter. And that means minus 20 and tons of snow Shock

cardibach · 10/08/2017 22:18

I also don't recognis the fictional autumn you are all looking forward too. Crisp mornings? Warm days? Clear skies?
It'll be grey, damp and miserable. You won't be able to kick through the leaves because they'll be soggy pulp from the rain. You know this is true if you live in the U.K.

Cailleach666 · 10/08/2017 22:22

cardibach- I think you are splitting hairs.

You wouldn't look forward to a non one off event? An annual holiday, a birthday or anniversary? I look forward to the Edinburgh Festival- and that happens every year.

I can't see the difference between looking forward to a regularly occurring event than to a one off event. Why is it OK to anticipate with pleasure a wedding, but not a birthday?

Stressy3215 · 10/08/2017 22:22

Absolutely love the autumn months too! Think the world is a lot more beautiful during that time, makes me feel really wistful when I think of it

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 10/08/2017 22:22

Grey and miserable is more winter. September and October are autumn and the best months.

BuzzKillington · 10/08/2017 22:23

We have dozens of pears and apples on the ground that have fallen from the trees in the garden. It feels pretty autumnal already.

SnowiestMountain · 10/08/2017 22:25

Love autumn but my favourite is actually winter! Grin

Ellieboolou27 · 10/08/2017 22:28

cardibach birthdays, Christmas, Easter are events which happen every year, doesn't mean we cant look forward to them!
You sound like a right ray of sunshine with all that positivity

cardibach · 10/08/2017 22:28

Cailleach it just feels different. It feels like summer isn't enjoyable and you can't wait for it to end, which is subtly different from being excited for an event. Perhaps it just feels different to me, but that's what I think.
Also: holiday is different each year, my birthday sort of creeps up on me, I don't allow talk of a Christmas before a December, so if I'm unreasonable at least I'm consistent!

cardibach · 10/08/2017 22:30

Ellie now that is an unreasonable thing to say. I realise it's a cross post, but there is nothing negative about what I've said! I'm asking people to be positive about today! If you can't understand that there's not much hope for you.

RaininSummer · 10/08/2017 22:34

I only like Autumn when there has been a Summer first. Still waiting.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/08/2017 22:35

I'm reading all these posts thinking yes, yes, oh yes! Grin

I love the long sunny summer days with blue skies and sunshine but then you get some lovely sunny days all year round. I love the changing colours and the promise of Christmas not far off. I love picking wild fruit for crumbles and making slow gin. Cooking more roasts and stews and puddings. Lighting the woodburner and having it on all day flickering away all cosy and warm.

I love warm coats, nice boots and snuggly scarves. I'm a size 18 with wobbly bits and white skin so I hate it when it's too hot and sweaty. I love the lush summer greenery, flowers everywhere and warm sunshine but when I'm surrounded by lithe tanned people I'm very self conscious. Would much rather be tucked up in cosy clothes.

I also can't wait to get out all my Christmas crockery in at least November. Grin

SaraWeez13 · 10/08/2017 22:36

Wait. What? Since when has August been consider autumn?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/08/2017 22:36

And I do know how to spell sloe, it's just the autocorrect that doesn't.

Wheatfield · 10/08/2017 22:38

Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons 😊 If winter could just end in Dec that would be good though, January and February are just the worst 😩

mumeeee · 10/08/2017 22:39

I love Autumn but also like summer. It is over a month until Autumn starts. In fact Autumn officially starts on 21st September and ends on 21st December. So Yabu to say it's nearly autumn we are actually only half way through Summer

LiveLifeWithPassion · 10/08/2017 22:40

I love Autumn too. The colours of leaves are lovely, the coziness of being indoors after having been out, really appreciation hot drinks and soothing soups.
But autumn always reminds me that it's winter next. I hate cold winters and darkness at 3.30.
