To think family should have shown concern?

Out for afternoon tea and somehow spilled hot tea on my hand.

I squealed and jumped up. A waitress came over as I was still crying out and took me to a sink where I could put cold water on my hand. I screamed several more times as it hurt.

When I got back my family were all just eating cake and chatting!

I sat down and said "I'm fine."

AIBU or could they have shown some concern? Hmm

Do you want my honest opinion?

Mrscropley · 05/08/2017 10:15

Hmm . .

PantPlot · 05/08/2017 10:16

Do you do the screaming and squealing and crying out thing a lot?

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 05/08/2017 10:16

You were fine.... you said so yourself

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/08/2017 10:16

Smile, I think you're a touch over dramatic but I'm a stiff upper lip sort.

ImperialBlether · 05/08/2017 10:16

They clearly think you're a drama queen. Not sure why, though.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/08/2017 10:16

Maybe you do it a lot and your family take it all in their stride ignore you

Rossigigi · 05/08/2017 10:17
Confused
hustlepyramid · 05/08/2017 10:17

Sad Perhaps I have just worn them down with my dramatic ways then.

It was straight out of the teapot and very painful.

You brave soldier you, well done.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 05/08/2017 10:18

You screamed several times in a restaurant because you spilt tea on your hand?

Are you usually over dramatic and therefore your family are use to it?

Scoose · 05/08/2017 10:18

Grow up are you five?

Wishimaywishimight · 05/08/2017 10:19

Sounds like a lot of screaming, squealing and crying over a tea spill - perhaps they were embarrassed at the fuss although a quick "are you ok?" would have been nice.

IrregularCommentary · 05/08/2017 10:19

That sounds like a lot of screaming...

Maybe they were doing the ignore the attention seeking behaviour thing.

Penny4UrThoughts · 05/08/2017 10:20

Do you often make more work about things than is necessary?

SpartacusSaiman · 05/08/2017 10:20

Straight out of the teapot has veen off the boil for a while. Getting poured into the teapot and brought to the table. Usually will be done a few minsutes before it comes out.

I am sure it hurt. But screaming, really? Then screaming with your hand in cold water?

I would guess this isnt unusual behaviour from you and they deal with it best by not acknowledging.

CockacidalManiac · 05/08/2017 10:20

I imagine a few looks were exchanged across the table while you were away.

NoMoreDecorating · 05/08/2017 10:21

Unless you're about to tell us all you now have a severe burn on your hand YABU for screaming several times...

Loyly · 05/08/2017 10:21

Is this a reverse?

I can see why you might cry out when it happened because that's a reasonable immediate reaction. I can't think that many adults would continue to scream and shriek if there wasn't a serious injury. Considering you were able to run it under the cold tap and return to your meal I think your family might have correctly assumed your amateur dramatics would subside sooner if they didn't give you too much attention. How old are you?
