To think family should have shown concern?

Out for afternoon tea and somehow spilled hot tea on my hand.

I squealed and jumped up. A waitress came over as I was still crying out and took me to a sink where I could put cold water on my hand. I screamed several more times as it hurt.

When I got back my family were all just eating cake and chatting!

I sat down and said "I'm fine."

AIBU or could they have shown some concern? Hmm

Seriously some of you people

Hot water suddenly joining with your head would bloody hurt . .

Or you all got that fucking "stiff upper lip" nonsense going on ?

MozzchopsThirty · 05/08/2017 12:03

Are you my mother????

She does shit like this, mostly for attention, screaming & crying

I take very little notice of those who scream & cry

MrsJamesAspey · 05/08/2017 12:03

You brave soldier you, well done.

Is the word not empathic? misses point of thread

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/08/2017 12:07

Lu I'm proud of my stiff upper lip, it means not drawing attention to myself and getting on with it in situations where drama isn't required.

It has its place and it's not fucking nonsense Smile.

Happyeverafter73 · 05/08/2017 12:15

What a carry on!

RentANDBills · 05/08/2017 12:25

I get the crying out when you originally hurt yourself. Most people would have made some kind of noise if suddenly burned.

But screaming and crying afterwards?

It's a burn. Had there been lots of blood and/or a potential hospital visit I'm sure they'd have been all over you, but a burn?

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 05/08/2017 12:26

Even if you were being a massive drama llama, it was a bit mean to not even glance up and ask if you were ok. I would have asked you, even if I thought you had overreacted.

paxillin · 05/08/2017 12:28

Under 8, full fanfare. Under 12, a bit of "pull yourself together" unless it is bad enough for A&E. Any older and I would have assumed they want their momentary loss of composure to be politely ignored.

sobeyondthehills · 05/08/2017 12:32

I was filling up a hot water bottle from a kettle that had just boiled and somehow managed to pour it on my hand. My 5 year son gave me a you were brave sticker, would you like it instead?

SilverBirchTree · 05/08/2017 12:34

They were probably embarrassed by you and pretending they didn't know you

YouRat · 05/08/2017 12:34

GrinGrinGrin. Ridiculous.

paxillin · 05/08/2017 12:37

What, you still screamed with your hand in cold water? I missed that. I'd have claimed I don't know you and you followed me since the bus stop.

RhubardGin · 05/08/2017 12:37

Crying and squealing? Really?

You are being a drama queen and completely ridiculous 😂

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/08/2017 12:37

Sounds like my mom. She stubs her toe and you'd think her leg had fallen off or something.

We ignore her.

IHateUncleJamie · 05/08/2017 12:46

My daughter burned her hand very badly, and she screamed when it was put in cold water, and for a few minutes afterwards.

She was 2. Biscuit

Hudson10 · 05/08/2017 12:48

Screaming out when you spill tea on your hand sounds a normal thing to do.
Screaming out several times after the event, not so much.
You said you "were fine."
So they obviously thought you were OK.
Not seeing much of a problem here. Unless you wanted them to call an ambulance or something? Confused

Wdigin2this · 05/08/2017 12:52

Awww, I expect it really did hurt....but perhaps you were a little over dramatic?!

MadMags · 05/08/2017 12:53

My sister is such a drama queen that everyone ignores her when she carries on. Because it's attention seeking and extremely annoying.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/08/2017 12:54

*Keloid scar - sodding autocorrect - now it's a doctor!

Gramgram · 05/08/2017 12:55

Normal to cry out when you initially burnt yourself, but the rest sounds over the top. Most medics in the event of an emergency will attend to the quiet one first.

Has your hand blistered?

IloveBanff · 05/08/2017 12:56

CockacidalManiac "The word that you're looking for is in there somewhere."

Grin Indeed.

BewareOfDragons · 05/08/2017 13:03

My 10 year old splashed recently boiled water from last night's hotdogs on his foot as he moved the pan ... he didn't carry on as much as that ... and he has actual blisters on two toes this morning from the burns. Hmm He also managed to play football this morning in tight football shoes ... some whinging about the discomfort as he put his shoes on, but got on with it.

SpartacusSaiman · 05/08/2017 13:03

Hot water suddenly joining with your head would bloody hurt . .

Head?

CockacidalManiac · 05/08/2017 13:08

Wasn't that Deanna Troi?
